hi all sifus,
it's interesting to read this post, i'm interested to cut my asstro. it seems the best way to replace it is through Android boxes with a fast internet. I have in mind the MK808 currently, but i have one question: can I use a cheap China tablet to stream video from internet to my tv thru HDMI cable? seems ok right because they all are running Android anyway.
also, one good benefit is a tablet need not use an air mouse, using finger to operate is easier for old and computer-illiterate people isn't it?
would love to hear for advice.........

QUOTE(fareast87 @ Oct 3 2013, 02:46 PM) It's possible if your tablet have an HDMI output. Buy an HDMI cable for specific port (type A,C,D or E), connect to your TV, done! I think, resolution/picture quality depends on your tablet. yeah the tablet should have a hdmi or mini hdmi port.

QUOTE(totally_skint @ Oct 3 2013, 03:07 PM) If you don't mind a long cable with delicate connection to your tablet while you lounge on your sofa. Instead of air mouse, why not try a Bluetooth PC mouse? yeah it'd be a bit more troublesome. the main issue here is that old people like my parents are computer-illiterate and never know how to use a mouse, so i'm trying to see if my new solution can totally avoid using mouse or not. another issue is whether it is practical or not to run the tablet for more that 4 hours with an active connection to wifi and TV. Has anyone done it before? Any advice?

QUOTE(fareast87 @ Oct 4 2013, 10:04 PM) try this bro.. the remote seems easy to operate.. not fully android though.. but you can still stream netflix etc.. Roku 1Roku? from your link it seems best to watch us content like NetFlix from it, but how about HK and China TV channels? How easy is it for us to add them?

QUOTE(vergas @ Oct 4 2013, 09:54 AM) I'm using Himedia Q5, and control it using my android phone. If you want to avoid mouse, you can check it out. However, with android box and xbmc, I don't think controlling using a wireless mouse is difficult, even for old people, you just have to set it up so it automatically open the application you want, set some favorite channel and apps and after that its just point and click. at one glance, this Himedia device seems to have the best remote control of all the Android stuff out there. thanks for the info. seriously considering it now.

QUOTE(chopin @ Oct 5 2013, 10:12 AM) hi all, it is interesting to see all these different solutions coming out these days for us to dump asstro - and i repeat: I HATE asstro with a passion!!! so far I have shortlisted the following devices based on my reading so far. I wish sifus here can help me to pick one and that's it. My priorities:
a) Must be able to watch HK and China channels like TVB (for my old mother's sake) b) Must have an easy to use remote control. for me an air mouse etc. is absolutely no problem, but for my old uneducated mother it could be an issue. Any comment/advice is WELCOMED! QUOTE(AVFAN @ Feb 26 2016, 11:51 PM) not all smart tv's are made the same. just like not all boxes are made the same. so, depends on what u want and willing to pay - smart tv or box. i have seen samsung smart led tv in a friend's home, i'm impressed that it can directly open youtube videos over the unifi lan connection, and no lag almost. i wish to know if smart tvs can also install the popular apps just like those android boxes do? and would it be easy to use by old folks who are not techy like our old parents? they mainly want to watch chinese and HK programs. for us of course no problem, but for them it matters.
