Mcafee sucks, i also uninstall it 2 days after i use the laptop. Cant stand it, resource hunger and so "kepoh" wan.. Then i install the free avira antivirus. Much much better now. the only thing i hate about avira it will always detect hard disk as harmful and dont want to autoplay. But nvm. As long as it can detect other viruses its ok.

U should check which one is yours in device manager on control panel. Then install accordingly.

For intel chipset etc, yup install it but im not sure about rapid storage tho, some says SSD doesnt need the rapid storage. Can anyone verify it.

Try to run windows 7 first, then just go to device manager, if it doesnt state u can search on net the ID/code of the hardware.

Y510p screen is gorgeous compared to Y410p. I'd pick Y510p over Y410p anytime.

U shud check it yourself, regarding cooling, im using y500 yeah this laptop cools down really fast after gaming. Temperature while gaming is also good, max i get is 85'C for CPU, and 74'C for GPU, but thats on ultra setting. If low and medium should be lower than that.

I see, good choice also since it have advantage of the 14" screen resolution. Easier to make ultra settings on that screen resolution.

bahaha same! i was looking for Y400, end up buying Y500 and its worth every penny yo! loving the screen and it laptop actually cools down a lot faster!

Just install the geforce experience driver and check latest driver updates from that application. Im using latest driver recommended by it. Im away now cant check the exact version of the driver. Sorry.

I have updated to windows 8.1 2 times, and revert back to windows 8. Because of driver issues and all. I know there is 8.1 driver available at lenovos website but i just cant seems to make everything run "smoothly" like on windows 8. Plus im a person who likes everything to be perfect. Didnt like even a slightest error. I did find a few error when i was in 8.1. Forgot what it is already. The purpose i upgrade to 8.1 is i like the new tiles option, but thats just it. Thats the main difference between 8 and 8.1. Since its not that stable, (to me) i opt to stay on windows 8 with full windows update. So far everything runs smoothly. u can try ur luck on 8.1 and post ur thoughts here.

There are some user here manage to run 8.1 without any problem. But u have to do clean install for each driver which im lazy to do. U can try if u want to.

Unfortunately this is the famous issues on Y500/Y510p. For my Y500 it doesnt happen regularly, only a few times. Only way to "fix" is by using external mouse. u can google this problem u will found lots of complaint about it.

Aik, shud be the other way around. If thats the case maybe ur mouse got problem?

Have u tried create a new backup when ure on 8.1 using the OKR application?

Haha i see. OKR should be able to create backup on 8.1 even on "freedos".

Forgot to mention if u dont want use OKR just use the normal windows backup apps.

Few minute? Shouldnt be that long. Usually 10-20 seconds only. Try check your startup programs at task manager and manage it so that ur computer can boot faster.

Mine usually around 15-20 seconds from startup to desktop. On windows 8 also. try check ur startup program on task manager. Mine stated 1.5 seconds to boot. how bout urs? Oh btw i already disable many startup programs that i didnt use. U should too.

My y500 usually idling on 46-51'C when on hot day (33-36'C). i use stand fan to cool my laptop, just point it towards the side of the laptop. And yeah i lower the maximum power settings to 90% on plug & battery. So that the laptop doesnt always run on turbo boost.
