Hi there. I recently bought a Y500 750m sli. I have been playing some games on it and noticed that there are white powdery substance on the bottom intake vent. I am pretty sure it's not dust. Also when I check my temps using HWMonitor I consistently get 85C on the ultrabay gpu and 65C on the other regardless of the game. Is this normal? Thanks.

QUOTE(Dbassnut @ Jun 17 2013, 03:16 PM) Hi Guys, I've got a few questions on the Lenovo Y500 GT750M SLI. 1. The stock notebook comes with 8GB RAM in a single stick, so upgrading to 16GB by adding in an additional compatible RAM later shouldn't be a problem, right? Anyone done this with their Y500? 2. From the Lenovo flyer, the Y500(59-378187) is shown as equipped with a 120W adapter, but I also noticed some sellers selling the notebook with an additional 170W adapter as well (basically a 120W and 170W adapter). Shouldn't the stock Lenovo Y500 come with the 170W adapter as its running 2 GPUs? Any advantages or disadvantages? 3. What is the screen resolution? 1920x1080? Thanks, Dbassnut 2) The Y500 sli version comes with a 170W and 120W adapter. You can use either one. Preferably 120W for travelling and 170W for gaming. 3) For 15' yeah. For 14' 1366x768. Y410P US version apparently comes with 1600x900 as well. 1) I remember the US version comes with 2x4gb ram. But the M'sian set supposedly comes with 8gb. If it so than yeah just add another compatible 8gb ram.

Hi, can anyone verify that there is white powder at the bottom intake vent of the Y500. I think it could either be thermal paste or some other chemical. Any advice will much appreciated I just bought it 3 weeks ago. Also the F11 key seems to be half lit.

QUOTE(Dbassnut @ Jun 17 2013, 04:15 PM) hmm. Powder at the bottom of the intake vent. Dandruff? Just kidding. It could be plastic shavings from when they installed the screws. Or dried thermal paste (usually greyish white). Kind of worrying though as I too am thinking of getting a Y500 SLI GT750M. Did you upgrade your warranty to onsite warranty? How much RAM did your model come with? Thanks for your reply. Can't seem to find any info online. Um is that normal? Should I call a technician over to have it check? Yeah my warranty was upgraded from 1 to 2 years. The dealer did it for me though. You need to give your model number and a few other info. Once it is done you can check using this website: http://support.lenovo.com/en_MY/product-se...us/default.page? Mine came with 8gb ddr3 the specs say single stick No worries about touch pad though. I think the problem has been solved. In fact it's better than a lot that I have tried win 8 gestures works as it should. Keyboard on the other hand, the F11 key is half lit Read a few post with the same problem.

QUOTE(garfieldcrazy @ Jun 17 2013, 04:32 PM) Guys, here are some questions that i think most of us with the y500 single gpu and planning to have the 2nd card want answered. 1) do you think that they will order the removable gt750m at all? if not, will 2) the y510p will have the same removable graphics as the y500 now?[means will the gt750m of the y510p fit in the slot of the y500 gt750? and is it compatible/same?] Hi there you can try asking Hikari. She's a genuine re-seller.

QUOTE(Dbassnut @ Jun 18 2013, 01:48 PM) Hi Maxlol, If you have the onsite warranty, do call the tech over to check. Also, save a sample of the white powder (put it in a small plastic bag) to show the tech. I've heard that the Wireless Communication modules on the earlier Y500 models weren't so good. How is the one on yours? Lol the powder still stuck to the bottom grating Thanks. So far no disconnection and or random drops. Works normally on my streamyx 1mbps (maybe that's why). Not sure about blue tooth though haven't tested. I think that problem was for Y400 and Y500 650m. The problems they faced seemed to be rectified including touch-pad responsiveness. So far the only touchpad I like better are those on the MacBook Pro. Other problems that persist are some keys are only half lit and the build seems a bit iffy such as scratches right out the box. Other than that there's the white powder which I have no idea what it is.

QUOTE(Dbassnut @ Jun 18 2013, 02:37 PM) About putting the white powder into a bag, maybe not such a good idea. Kind of hard to explain if a policeman asks you what it is. lol. By the way, you may want to see it insides of the Y500 (its the one with the GT650M) which should be similar to the GT750 one. Here it is. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo...ok.87585.0.htmlThanks for the link. Now my two vents at the side has got a type of chemical smell as well. The smell was there the day I first bought it and switched it on. I thought it was new plastic smell. Now still have....... Edit just called service center they ask me to bring the laptop along..... QUOTE(Dbassnut @ Jun 18 2013, 03:27 PM) hmm. if it is a sharp chemical smell (something like what you get when you burn out a fluorescent lamp), it could be that one of the capacitors on the board already kaput. Better get a lenovo technician to check. also, better email them & keep a copy of the email just in case. More like new car interior finishing smell haha.

QUOTE(garfieldcrazy @ Jun 18 2013, 06:12 PM) Lemmie tell you what it is, it's plastic or some glu material from the joints that lock the back cover to the mainboard together. Few weeks back I took out my back cover for the first time to install the 8gb cracial RAM and the mSata for my y500, in the process I'd break one of the joints, what i did was I'd superglued it back and put it under the Sun to dry, Then that white poweder started to appear, then I'd noticed that it was coming out from one of the other joints on the back cover. In your case however I think it's because of your lappie's heat [ mine was sun's heat ] so i don't think it's coming from the companents Hi, thanks I think that might be it. So it is melted glue and will it be a problem for me in the future? Should I take and it for service? Just bought it less than 2 weeks ago =.= How come nobody else has this problem btw

Hi guys, just wanted to ask. Any of you monitoring the cpu clock speed for the Y500 GT 750M revision? According to the notebookcheck the Y510P turns off intel's turbo boost when more than 1 core is used meaning it will stay at the default clock speed of 2.4 ghz =.= This wasn't a problem in the Y500 GT 650M revision. The clock speed turbo boost to 3.0 ghz when 4 cores were used. I am not sure if the 750M has the same problem as the Y510p revision. Anyone can verify and/ or suggest a good software to do so?
