Guys, I'm trying to get myself a water cooling starter kit for now... for my new rig. using z87-a mb and i5 oc-ed to 4.4ghz, trying to lower some temps here.

The real questions that I would like to ask is:
- in within rm900 budget range, which starter kit / brand i should go to?ekwb in my first choice, then bitspower, swiftech, xspc, which these four would be preferable by me. ( ekwb i asked a.p.e.s, they out of the starter kit stock T-T)

-would prefer 240mm size radiator set mostly, and either included or extra buying a reservoir

sifus, teach me =/ and whats the exact use of reservoir? to eliminate bubbles in the system? it looks cool though  biggrin.gif
*
This pretty much answers your reservoir question.

QUOTE(Lucassss @ Nov 22 2013, 04:56 PM)
Reservoir is to ensure that your pump doesn't run dry.
Just think of it this way, dry pump = dead pump = overheating PC = dead PC.

XSPC kit would be the best to start with as it's available locally and doesn't cost a kidney.
*
XSPC would be the best kit you can get locally. IMHO better than EK kits. Swiftech H220 is another option, but that's not exactly a kit. It's a modular all in one. Good value though.

QUOTE(babyskiraz @ Nov 22 2013, 05:05 PM)
thks for reply!

whats the different between XSPC Raystorm D5 EX240 and Raystorm D5 AX240 and XSPC RayStorm D5 Photon AX240 WaterCooling Kit ?

XSPC Raystorm Twin D5 AX240 <- this will cost a ton? o.o
for the moment, wheres my luck finding these babies?  drool.gif
*
Radiators are different. EX240, AX240. The last one uses a cylinder pump combo. First two are bay res pump combo.

I don't think the twin D5 kit is available locally.

QUOTE(Dennos @ Nov 22 2013, 06:05 PM)
Twin D5 pmup= RM5xx
*
So cheap? Really? for the kit? You have to be joking.

QUOTE(babyskiraz @ Nov 22 2013, 06:25 PM)
I did some price research myself and the twin D5 kits cost over rm15xx depending on your rad size...
so... i might stick back to single D5.

Alright, I'm now attracted and inclined towards D5 EX240 , rad 240mm is good enough for gpu and cpu in a single loop if I was planning on water cool gpu later on? or 360mm only will be enough?

I called up Cyntrix just now and the guy recommend me to change to tubing as the stock tubing comes with the kit will plasticized ..

and coolant cost rm8x !  unsure.gif

on side question : can car coolant used on our cooling kits?
*
Yes, a single D5 is actually enough for most rigs. When you advance further and build bigger rigs or start getting more custom, then sure, dual D5, why not.

Depending on what you wanna achieve, you may want to add on a 360 later on. If you have the budget for a 360 kit, and if it'll fit your case, get it.

Yeah, you can change the tubing to Primo LRT, which will add on to your cost, of course.

Coolant isn't that expensive. RM7X. or cheaper bout RM3X. If you count quality and properties and this and that, price isn't too bad.

Or just buy distilled water for less than RM10 at your hypermarket and add on silver coils and/or biocide.

I sell the kits btw, along with other watercooling parts and stuff. Can get from me also. smile.gif

You can use car coolant, but always read labels coz the pumps for our systems are not properly rated for certain chemicals and stuff that goes into car coolants.

I hav a HAF 932 case, and coolant might want uv reactive geh...  brows.gif

uv reactive and cost effective, which brand to recommend?

if for car coolant, i might be using sumo one, red, like toyota coolant, and you sell the kits along with other stuff?!??!?

where u live?!??!? I don't know where you live, but I will find you, and raid your house  whistling.gif

I study in melaka currently and occassionally went to kl. personally I much more like people telling me knowledge and stories and learn it up. It's money for me  brows.gif
*
Not so sure whether the 932 can take a 360 on the top. I know it can take a 240mm.

UV reactive, depending on what colour you want, Mayhems has a lot of colours and come in about RM 6X a bottle, but you'll need to add distilled water. XSPC EC6 is about RM 7X. EK Coolant is cheapest, but my supplier doesn't bring it in, not that I would recommend it either, I think about RM 3X a bottle.

Yeah, you have to read the labels and make sure it doesn't kill your pump. lol. Rated viscosity and chemical composition for car coolant and pc coolant is different. Yeah, other stuff like fittings, tubing, water block, etc.

No point raiding my home. I don't hold stock. tongue.gif

Performing better than your previous cooler?

Bro, can your res fit next to you pci bracket section, in the space there? Would help with your tube routing.

*
Does your reservoir have another port you can open? If got then you can use that to drain. use a bucket/pail/basin/dish/whatever.

There's a question in my mind, water in cooling system travel faster can take away heat faster, but will the rads able to coop up and cool the the water before it travels away again?
*
Whether the rads can cope or not depends on your fans. If your fans can move the heat from the fins fast enough, then it'll cope.

QUOTE(pali_5373 @ Nov 23 2013, 09:58 PM)
i experienced putting the flow rate at maximum and my water temp only reduce by 1 degree..i will experiment on adjusting the flow rate later. now still outstation.
*
Higher flow rates give you more constant, stable temperatures. Less fluctuations.

then choosing a better fan depends on it's fins, rpm or Ampere?
*
For fans, depends on your radiator type. But generally, Static pressure fans like the gentle typhoon and the corsair sp series are the crowd favourites.

the difference that matters is that the high pressure fan is just a better (aka stronger) fan that maintains its air productions even if there are obstacles. The high speed fan is supposed to loose it's speed in adversity...

I saw these at other place, doesn't know whether it's true or not.
*
Yes, in theory a static pressure optimised fan will be able to push air through the densest of radiators while an air flow optimised fan will struggle.

However, as I mentioned before, it will depend on your radiator as well. If you use a low fin per inch radiator (low density fins), you will benefit more from high airflow fans.

I will test this out when I have the chance. I've got air flow optimised fans and static pressure optimised fans and monitoring systems for my loop.

Anyone know who is selling nice temperature sensor with display to monitor water temp? The Bitspower one look kinda nice. I thought I was going to DIY myself using aquarium temperature sensor with display but got so lazy, I only tape the temp probe on the (outside) tube.
*
Interested in XSPC temperature probes? I can see if I've got them in stock.

I don't think Bitspower has temperature sensors with display.

please pardon me for the image quality, i'm not a very good photographer  blush.gif

so please feel free to give any suggestion or critics,
maybe i can make some better modification later.

and by the way, any one knows how to clean the stains that i have in my side panel?
i tried using soap but still not working.
thanks biggrin.gif
*
Interesting way of doing things.

Where did you get your flow meter from? Taobao?

Btw, the Koolance rad you're using, is it a new one or old one? coz old Koolance rads are made with alumnium cores (IIRC), which will mess up your loop real bad.

As for your side panel, is it with a soft touch/rubbery finish? If it is, there's nearly no way of helping you. If it's just painted metal, can try using isopropyl or if that doesn't work, can try polishing compounds. What's the stain, anyway?
