I saw a lot complaining about notebook temp..especially during intensive gaming..am owning G53JW-A1, the very first version of G53..nearly 3 years old..bought it from GenTechPC..still running fine..i rarely shut my computer down as far as i can remember, exclude auto shut after OS updates etc..am not sure about the latest version and design but I still remember one of the most popular rep told me not to bother with any notebook cooler (with the G53)..i have to admit ASUS service is the worst here but IMO Asus ROG has the best cooling system as it is..if ur lucky enough to get one flawless unit when purchasing..i do clean the dust, fan etc like once a year..that's it..and why repaste when the notebook is still running in considerably good temp??? do it when it is necessary lads..u want proper cooling..get a table fan directed at ur notebook keyboard..and save some space from the wall for the notebook as it flushes out the heat from the back..my idle temp is still around 39 - 41 degree (CPU: i7 -740) and GPU, GTX 460M never got past 85 degree during intensive gaming..

Give attention to GPU driver update as well..if u feel like the latest driver is screwed-up..revert back to previous driver..having the latest driver does not mean that ur GPU will fly with Crysis 3 when the temps can go nearly or beyond 100 degree..although it might fix some problems occurred from previous version..cheers lads

Ok after three years, my G53JW now seriously needing some repaste work done on it tongue.gif

Lads may I know which thermal compound you guys went with your CPU and GPU repaste work? Hopefully owners of G53/G55 with experience of doing it will come out and give me some ideas. What about the result? (be honest on this plz). I know some of ya have done it numerous times. Cheers.

Wo 3 years? Your place must be very clean :/ I replaced the thermal paste after 1 year (the gpu temperature shot up to over 85c; the fans/vents are covered with a thin layer of dust)

My preferences are ic diamond (current), as5, and tuniq tx4 for cpu. For gpu, prolimatech pk3.

The process for g55 is simple but tedious, due to the number of screws. Just watch the teardown at youtube and you should be good to go.

Not that clean lah haha. But ye I disassembled my notebook many times before to clean the fans, vents so I think it should be fine, hopefully tongue.gif Thanks to Asus as I needed to unscrew almost everything just to get to the fan part sweat.gif Ok I'll go with IC Diamond. Thanks a lot bro for your recommendation.

Ahh I think I should post this here tongue.gif

My Asus G53JW lappy's power cord seemed to be not working anymore this morning. However I have another power cord from my old lappy laying around and yes it does work. I am worried my lappy now is under powered although this is just a temporary solution. I am really glad the brick-sized power adapter is still running fine as I suspected it as the culprit earlier. Need expert advice here:

1. Can I just use any power cord for my G53JW?
2. And if I go to electrical shop, should I ask for the power cord with 7A and 125V labelled?

Please note that my original power cord from Asus is labelled with:
7A
125V

My temporary power cord comes with:
2.5A
250V~

I know this is silly, but the temporary power cord is used to power up a 65 watt old lappy but I believe the G53JW is powered up with 150 watt.

Real noob here, if u need additional info please let me know (input, output labelled on the brick power adapter)

Cheers

2. 19.5v 7.7A 150 watt brick. In lowyat stores u can get mostly 90w.

Very true.

here's my temp ONE DAY after sending to lowyat service centre for second repair (both time i ask for thermal repaste, they labelled as overheating)

user posted image

should i go to lowyat again and burn down their service centre or something ?
*
Yes please..just kidding, download a thorough video from YT (g53 or g55 thermal repaste, both are fine), and follow the steps. Take it slow, no need to rush. Trust me repaste process is fun. Don't doubt yourself.

I guess they didn't use good thermal paste or they didn't do anything at all.

there could be side effect one that i've encountered so far is keyboard malfunctioning lol. It's not good for the mobo too..

p/s: wah so long never came here biggrin.gif.

My keyboard has stopped functioning anyway but the backlights are still up. I just don't find these issues to be convincing enough to purchase a new notebook tongue.gif

GTX 460M is still doing a great job, at least to me and I don't really game like I used to, definitely lightweight notebook after this.
