Reading around, did show that in China, the return rate for the Onda with the Allwinner chipset has a return rate of >50%

So for my Vido N80RK, here's some pro and con.

Pro
- Excellent value for money. I mean, for RM450, where else can u get a quad core tablet, with 2GB of RAM, IPS display with 16GB of storage, dual cameras + android 4.1?
- Display size is good for webpage browsing (compared to a 7 inch la), as well as e-book reading.
- Relatively smooth.
- Plays games quite well, thanks to the Mali-400 GPU
- Good app compatibility
- Very high score in Antutu (~17000+)
- The 2GB RAM ensures you can multitask without any issues. I can browse the net, with a few tabs open, play a few games, jump back to browser where is left off earlier.

Cons
- Again, the display. I'm not sure if its my unit or what, but when browsing a webpage with a mostly white background, you can notice the left to right side (when in portrait mode) is kinda like yellowish to bluish. Its a minor annoyance to me la
- SOD. This occurred to me twice liao. Had to reset the tablet.
- Apps disappearing. No shit. I had to uninstall the app, the reinstall it. Then move it to the tablet from the internal storage.
- Screenshot button crashed the tablet, once.
- Some games are quite laggy, maybe due to bad optimization. NFS Most Wanted works. Worm2 Armageddon works. Minion Rush works (some bad lags, but now less liao). Asphalt 6 works, but doesnt look that nice due to the 4:3 display. Asphalt 7 doesnt work though.

There is a new firmware dated in May 2013. I'm downloading that now, and gonna test it and see if it can fix the bugs I am facing now. My current firmware is dated back to March 2013 btw.

Prefer branded or not? Budget?

Have a look at the Vido/Yuandao N80RK.

Quad Core Rockchip RK3188 1.5Ghz, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 16GB Internal Storage, HDMI, MicroSD, 8" 1024x768 IPS display, JellyBean 4.1.1.

I wont recommend Retina Displays on china tablets as some chipsets (Actions, Allwinner) may struggle when gaming.

Tablets that are 8" with Android 4.2

- Pipo U8 Quad Core.

That too, has a resolution of 1024x768. And I dont think this tablet is available locally too.

The rough price of the Vido N80RK is ~RM460 - RM500 +

Benchmark scores is one thing. Usability is another. So far I am loving it a lot..

8" to me, is darn good for reading as the aspect ratio is 4:3. 7" tablets are too small, while 10.1" are too big to lug around.

If money isn't an issue, get 3 sizes.

7" for carrying around, rough usage, so its okay to get something cheap. Ainol Flame/Fire, Vido N70S etc
8" for reading. Still okay for portability. Vido N80, Vido N80RK
10.10" for movies. And web browsing.

Mini One battery quoted can last for ~6-8 hours. Maybe more, depends on usage. That should be your best bet as it has Bluetooth, 2GB RAM, 7.85" display (same unit from the ipad mini), and a very slim body.. Cases for the ipad mini can fit the Mini One... Only need to drill out the holes for the speaker..

How bout using Galaxy Mega as tablet?

If you can stretch your budget that far..

Hey guys, I have RM1000 budget for a tablet. Currently looking at nexus 7 but I wonder how does other non-mainstream brand tablet at the same price point compare to nexus 7?

Also, if I increased my budget to about RM1500-RM2000 what other brand/models can I consider? (with better processor than Snapdragon S4)

The 2nd generation one.
Actually my preference would be 7" because its more portable, though I wouldn't mind 10". But my concern is processing power. As I see snapdragon s4 has been out quite a while, I'm sure there are other tablets with better processor?

non mainstream brand usually only have gravity sensor only.

no magnetic field sensor, no compass, no gyroscope, no proximity, no light sensor, no temperature sensor, no gravity sensor, no orientation sensor etc

But Mini One is more like alternative to Ipad Mini in Android form. Sadly i don't travel as frequent to China as i used to else I would have bought it myself in China for less than RM500.

Not sure but u guys but 7 inch screen size just seems bit odd else i would have settled for Asus Fonepad
