QUOTE(gp2stroker @ Jul 30 2015, 10:56 PM)
Previously i was using galaxy tab 7.7, handed it over to my daughter for her educational use. Had it factory reset after almost 3 years of use. It was no longer smooth enough for my web browsing, facebook even though the super amoled screen remains one of the best screens i hv ever seen. After d reset minimal apps are installed to avoid causing lags to the tablet. For ebook reading and movie watching it is still a capable device.

My replacement device is d lenovo tab S8-50, aiming for a budget tablet with good performance. Didn't want to spend too much for Galaxy Tab S 8.4 which is the replacement for Tab 7.7. Other than lenovo S8, was also considering Asus Memopad 8 ME581cl & Mipad. Actually WiFi connectivity is sufficient for me, while 3G/4G data/phone is a bonus. As mentioned by NightFelix, Asus has better hardware sensors whereas Mipad has a faster cpu/gpu. All 3 were good choices for me, finally settled with the best deal i.e cheapest

After 2 days of use, quite impressed with d performance of d lenovo S8-50. A really smooth experience. Can't comment on battery life yet, bcos still installing/tweaking stuff. I'm not using a sim/phone function so shud be power saving. In indoor use, screen brightness is close to minimum.

But a caution to potential buyers; screen resolution/dpi is not as in the spec (1900x1200). It has been lowered to around half by the preinstalled firmware. You can read about in lenovo forums. The effects: icons look bigger, web browsing/apps looks zoomed-in, no split screen in apps like yahoo mail when it is supposed to be for Full HD, keyboard/notification takes more space in d screen. At a glance d screen content doesnt look full HD. It has no effect on watching movies though.

So if u compare d home screens side by side with Asus Memopad 8 or other Full HD tablet...the screen display doesn't look as nice. For the same screen size, you don't get as much info/material you are browsing. Even my tab 7.7 HD screen shows more info/data than the Full HD S8-50  shocking.gif

Fortunately there is a workaround to solve this, also shared in the lenovo forum. I just completed tinkering with screen dpi mod. So far it looks better in Full HD as originally intended. Donno why lenovo mess with screen dpi in firmware, maybe another power saving mod.

Highly recommended tab for d price ( shop around for below RM650)

This!

I was playing with it in the store few days ago and I also realize that it didn't look like a Full HD display.

Do you have a link to the workaround to solve it?
