Hi, OC'er here.

Just built my half new rig yesterday.

1. i7 4770k batch L344C551 Malaysia
2. Giga Z87X-D3H
3. Kingston HyperX Beast 2400Mhz CL11 8GBX2
4. Corsair H110 LC
5. Corsair 500R casing
6. SILVERSTONE Strider Essential series ST60F-ES 600W (9 months old)
7. Asus HD6870 1GB (9 months old, after RMA 2 times)
8. Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB (reused)
9. Creative X-FI Xtreme Music

Choose this mobo mainly becos it has PCI slot for my old sound card, and i dun need those fancy gaming features in those gaming/OC board. Weirdly Gigabyte become very silent when comes to Haswell platform while it been dominated by ASUS. Hopefully this mobo can give some solid OC performance.

Quick test, stock i7 running IBT, around mid 50-55'C, 3.9Ghz at voltage 1.11 (High voltage or not??)
Tried quick OC without change voltage setting, 4.2Ghz boot into Windows, quick run IBT for 5 minutes no crash, LinX after 10 minutes system restart. Will try to do some serious OC after i update my board BIOS. Target at least 4.6Ghz.

Anyway, any place in KL provide 'professional' delid service? Or we have to do our own? May I know who done it here?

coolkwc is that full load temperature? It is accetable for h110. I believe you can use manual pump /fan speed instead of auto to improve.

delid can find AceCombat, location penang.
*
Yeah, that one is full load temp, i set IBT @ 12GB RAM test.

i set at max fan and bump speed all the time, becos not really that loud actually.

I plan to delid myself using razor blade, should be not so difficult. hmm.gif Just need to watch out the tiny cap at one side.

Anyway, is it OK if after delid i just run it bare chip without reinstall back the IHS??

My 3770K is running without the IHS until now.
I am using EK Supreme HF waterblock which requires me to remove the washers in order to make a better contact between the waterblock base and the chip (die).

I'm not going to delid my 4770K until I found a good OC chip.  laugh.gif

Sad OC result. Don't know whether due to cooler no sitted properly or what. 4.4Ghz with 1.25Vcore CPU already start throttling.

In stock, temp delta between idle and load is too big, which is around 45'C. Load temp during LinX is from 70-85'C, However when i touch my H110 radiator with hand it actually just slightly warm only. Just feel the heat just trap inside the IHS...if really no improvement after i resit the cooler, might as well consider delid the damn thing.

Yeah can't really play much with undelidded chip. It's time to give it a move by removing the cap biggrin.gif
Sure you won't regret with the improvement.
By the way, 1.25V seems too much for 4.4. A good chip will need only 1.15-1.2V for that OC.

1.2v i can boot into window but once linx started, the pc bsod...so i just set to 1.25 without test other intermidiate vcore...

Resit my H110 cooler today, still the same, the temp is very high at load even on stock frequency and voltage.

Stock temp idle 33, load 75-80. Delta over 40'C. Is this normal? The thermal paste used is Cooler Master X1 Extreme Fusion.

Back in core2 era, OC is just a simple task for me. For this Haswell I have absolutely no idea for it, it just like a stranger to me.

day 3 i OC my CPU, i understand something from the sensor.
1. memory voltage 1.65V will absolutely increase the CPU temp, hence those performance RAM is actully can run at tighter timing and faster clock with lower voltage (ex 1.5V), am i right?

Anyway, i really feel disappointing with the temp, although sensor reading is 90'C, but the heat cannot transfer to the cooler, just waste my cooler capability.

I think you have missed the Ivy Bridge overheat issue. Same thing for Haswell.
The overheat issue is caused by the excessive gap between the die and IHS that makes heat dissipation poorer than expected. Blame Intel for that.  tongue.gif
All you have to do is to void warranty and delid the IHS out of craps then only you will see an 30C drop on temperature.
Same as CPU, overvolt the RAM will benefit overclocking & tighter timing.
*
Actually i have no plan to OC RAM, but well, running my RAM at 'default' 2400Mhz already mean i OC from Haswell point of view.

Regarding temp drop after delid, -30'C is just an absolutely best case can achieve, i doubt everyone delid can get the same result. I search the forum, mostly drop around 10~ 15'C only, correct me if i'm wrong. I just worry lesser gain when i delid (<10'C drop), not worth if like that.

Anyway, yesterday i got frustrated by the result, so i pump 1.4v and clock to 4.7Ghz, can boot and running GRID 2 without issue. Today will try to hit 5Ghz with this voltage.

Normal TIM will reduce up to 20C. Liquid metal TIM like Coolaboratory Liquid Pro will give another 10C improvement.
*
Yesterday just bought a table vise. Now waiting for that moment of indiscretion then will do it....maybe a year later laugh.gif . I will buy G3220 as a backup before i do it. Now just settle with 4.3Ghz with 1.22V.

Anyway, read the forum about temp reduction after delid, it actually depends on originally how loose the contact in between IHS and die, if the gap already small, delid and reapply TIM might only give 7-10'C reduction. 30'C just a rare case.

Hi guys, this thread is opened for the recently launched Z97 chipset as well.

Who will be the first Z97 overclocker in this thread?  biggrin.gif

U, no doubt about that.

They will released 'OC enhancement' Haswell by mid year, they will 'improve' TIM for this unlocked chip, seems like maybe they back to solder TIM...

This is my final OC result, i think i will settle with this speed. Only validated by AIDA64, LinX, IBT, Prime95 result will no doubt out of the question and i dun need that as well. Will try and see stability during daily usage/gaming.

i7 4970K Review by Tomshardware.

Same voltage, same clockspeed, the so called Next Generation polimer TIM only 6'C cooler than 4770k crap TIM? What a joke.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i...nce,3845-2.html

Might as well delid the damn 4770k rather than 'upgrade' to 4970k. unsure.gif

already @1.44v so i think maybe i should just back off huhu
*
Have u try upping ur VCCIN? Put ur Vcore at 1.35v ceiling (1.44v is too high already), up ur VCCIN and enable LLC to highest setting VCCIN can try until 2V (default 1.8V, but will register as low as 1.65-1.7V if LLC is disable). How about uncore multi? Try x40 or below when ur OC reach 4.5Ghz and not stable.

Why the majority 4790k reviews that i read all praise on the 'new' TIM but in fact it only cool down to 4-6'C when head to head comparison (same clock and voltage)? They self satisfy or what? In fact a delid 4770k can give 10-20'C improvement? They tends to forgot the solder is much better than that.

what do u guys think about this ?

U should untick stress CPU, instead, just stress FPU, From your temp reading in CPU stress mode, i bet FPU stress will bring your setup to 85'C+
