Hi guys, I bought my PB last August. The DVD-Rom didn't seem to work perfectly after 3~4 months. And now, it doesn't work at all. It doesn't mount, sometimes it ejects disc right away, and sometimes it doesn't eject the disc until I reboot the machine. What's wrong with it? I checked on Apple www, and to my surprise I found that the warranty for my PB has expired even though I've owned it for less than a year. Is there anything I can do now?

tat's very wierd if u r sure that u just "owned" it for less than a year. you bought a second hand unit? if u have the receipt u can argue for the warranty.
if the time differences are only 1-2weeks then u should forget about it. get ready for an external drive. or spend for a internal replacement.
Another note for u that the older gen of Apple DVD/Combo drive dont really like DVD+R.

I didn't register my PB with Apple when I bought it last August. Does it matter? It's definitely still under warranty.
I seldom use the combo drive. How come it breaks down so easily one?

i suspect the culprit isnt ur drive. Were u using pirated disc? as i know, apples drive are quite sensitive that some pirated disc couldnt be read or jam the drive.
as you couldnt eject the disc, tat is quite common too. sometimes id have to bring out the task manager and reload the finder.
Hope tat helps.

No. It's genuine CDs that I tried to play.

ok meaning ur warranty are atlease 2month+ to go. If you have the receipt and you bought it locally. Bring it back to the shop and ask for the warranty. DO NOT tell them u never register online. If they ask just say u did it. And use the receipt to proof it if they resist to give u service. Dont waste ur time to figure out the problem if it is still in warranty. And take my advice to get the applecare.

I would have brought my PB to Apple Service Centre (London) if I had the receipt. I left it back home.

I recommend you get someone to fax the receipt to you. This is because Apple requires a proof of purchase if a customer disputes the date shown on Apple's website.
To be fair, Apple's website does say "estimated" so don't worry too much about it.

I've faxed the proof-of-purchase to Apple, they've updated the date of purchase of my PB, but it's still INCORRECT.
