Internet Security SuitesNote: They should NOT be used with any other real-time security softwares. Because it can cause major problems. You should uninstall any other Firewalls and Anti-Virus softwares before installing Internet Security Suites. Unless you are an experienced user and know what you are doing. If you want to use an extra on-demand Anti-Virus scanner, then it is best to use Online Scanners with Internet Security Suites. Using other Anti-Spyware softwares will be alright to use for on-demand scans but don't use them for real-time protection because they can conflict even if you have real-time Anti-Spyware disabled on your Internet Security Suite.

If you have anything else that you would like to add to this list, please reply to this thread. smile.gif

The latest version of Zone Alarm Security Suite 7.0.408 finally fixes the problem that hangs the PC when shutting down. Its a blessing really. I was getting fedup to have to shutdown it manually each time before shutting the PC. The other thing is the status tab is not 'missing' after a fresh boot.

This PC hangs while shut down already fixed is great.
BUT do you(all) facing the problem with ur PC/Laptop having slow performance ? I not meaning that normal anti-virus software slow down. I means it really HANGS there for few minute when u install somethings, or performing too much application at the same times.

I did't face this kind of problem before i using ZoneAlarm S.S. It only happen while i start bought it and use it on my Laptop. I have wonder is that my Laptop problem or the Suit Problem.. any idea ?

geesh...can you really trust what the magazine says??? I've seen reputable mag like PCmag.com get it wrong sometimes(tester have variating testing methodology and can sometimes be unfair/bias). And if you read this type of articles often enough you would notice that the winners are quite usually the usual advertising suspects as well. meaning......great if not brilliant review on page 6, big full colour advert on page 20 for the next 5 issues. tongue.gif

If you are looking for a security software, 30 day trials are available, try it. And if you insist on reading, try Virus Bulletin or av-comparatives.org

I use a-squared Free for my office pcs but for my personal laptop, I install Avira. One time I installed Bit Defender in my office pcs, the resultant pc performance is pc damn slow probably because of real time protection. Dunno whether those who install Bit Defender experience this problem?

Kaspersky IS 9 & Norton IS 360, which one u guy prefer to use? both also the latest & top Internet Security in the world, a bit difficult to decide which one is more valuable to hold it. :-)

Beside, what is the different between Antivirus & Internet Security Software?

Don't ever use Norton's software that's got something to do with anti-virus. It sucks big time, trust me.

So Kaspersky is the obvious winner here.

Anti-Virus takes action AFTER the virus is inside the computer.(usually the virus not active yet.)

As for Internet Security, you will get firewall. Which means the virus is prevented to even come in your computer. Plus, you'll get more security features in Internet Security suites like anti-phising, parental control and so on. Do note that the usual anti-virus function is still in the Internet Security suite.

The certainty of the above information may not be correct. Anyone is welcomed to correct me.

Yes, i already test it. Norton IS 2009 is the fastest AV ever.
Install time takes less than 1 minute.
Scan time are very fast with their new technology- Norton insight
The program it self are very light.
Interface are very good for newbie and advance user.

Downloaded and tried it. I however, still prefer the Norton IS 2009 which I downloaded the 15-day trial as it really, really, really doesn't hog memory at all.

Bro, you reading the posts properly? doh.gif The posted mentioned: "Hi guys ... currently using KIS ... I notice that when I do deep scan ... it only SCANS .. if got problem how to quarantine or fix ?".
KIS = Kaspersky. And you mentioned Symantec. doh.gif Another thing, neither Symantec or Kaspersky will guide you on scanning. I'm not talking about help.

Your PC is not effected by any virus or malware. By the way, If when your PC is effected the virus will move to Quarantine is automatic.

hi,

i have had one full year of bitdefender in 2008. my laptop is virus-free and spyware-free plus it had detected many intrusions from the internet. i was very happy with it. it even had the built-in function to auto repair itself by downloading fresh copy of corrupted files from its update servers.

check the ratings given by www.toptenreviews.com... the best antivirus so far...

just my 2 cents...

Overall Performance & Security = Norton 2009

Norton improved massively compare to version 2003.

KIS 2009 also a good product but performance heavier than NIS 2009, for security both also doing good job.

KIS 2010 more heavier den KIS 2009, thats make me change to NIS 2009. Now looking forward to NIS 2010 which now still on beta.

For Performance + Security I recommend Symantec NIS 2009

For Cheaper Price + Security I recommend KIS 2009 (not KIS 2010 cos fail me badly for bugs (gameguard conflict) & slow down pc)

Here's the prove Performance Result

I also agreed about using free anti virus software or computer protection which only gives minimal protection. I would rather pay than having problems using free software.

Anyway, just a note, 'Good things never come cheap' cool2.gif

Currently, I'm using ESET NOD32 antivir. Works wonder, their heuristic engine really is awesome. In terms of resource usage, I can barely even notice any load while running full scan on my PC.

In terms of updating, they concentrate more on updating the pattern for their heuristic engine over virus signatures, thus update files are usually very small.

So far, I'm happy with it after 2 months of using it. smile.gif

That is what a good anti virus or internet security should be. Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is slowing down my computer.

When my computer slowed down, i opened the task manager and see the processes.

it turns out that "avp.exe" is consuming my CPU usage at xx%.

During the scanning the cpu meter shows that the CPU usage is at 100%.

Haiz. i really missed the previous version of kaspersky.

KIS 2011 does not slow down my laptop but it does not clean infection. doh.gif It detect, scan and reboot, could not delete at all although I keep click the option to delete it. Prompt me a few times. Crap!

This version of 2011 is real screwed up, remind me years ago of Norton. Can detect, can't delete. Crap! 2010 is better although 2011 has better features. Pretty disappointed, shall revert to 2010 and wait for new version

Bitdefender internet security is a pain in the ass, not only it slows your computer down, it installer size is gigantic, antivirus alone already 2xxMB in size...gaming performance will be totally impacted, so be prepared to get 2x-3xFPS or lower when using this security suite... last time I always thought my computer system not supported the game with high resolution...but actually bitdefender caused the slow down!! Uninstalled it, and all my games runs so smooth...

They released 2011 version, tho they have fixed the issues...but NO...still lag your computer as well, and much more bloated now sweat.gif ..will never touch bitdefender and totally not recommending this suite at all...pretty good detection..but at a cost of your computer performance...not worth it, better spend on other suites.

panda nowadays also becoming much more like.."everything is malicious"..even flagged those openvpn as malicious, and some other programs..and caused problem in displaying sites...

avira 10...performs not so well compared to ver 9..i don't know why, it seems much more malware went undetected...weird

nod32, never tried this before..

kaspersky is 2010 - ok, 2011 - don't know..but i read some comments that kis 2011 slowed their computer down..

nis - so far ok, but there's some issues also..like "love" to get conflict with some of the firefox addons, and certain stuff..really annoying..

tried f-secure is..installed, slowed my boot time to desktop..and caused me unable to use the desktop for like 5 minutes..straight away uninstalled it afterward..

g data - i heard this one also will bloat your computer performance...much like bitdefender case...

comodo - only use it if you know what you're doing, totally not for first time/newbie to the internet users.

i mostly will install those separately, like using MSE/Avast [either one] as the AV, and comodo as the firewall...

SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition is good for 2nd layer of protection. It doesn't meant to be used as primary Internet Security or Anti-Virus but they are compatible with most of Internet/AV suites.

In order to use this kind of combination, the users must at least be familiar on doing settings to prevent any conflicting.

Not all of the readers over here knows how to manage such a combination including me. biggrin.gif

For me, i just want to save the trouble.

Prior using the KIS, i have to,

periodically visit my friend,

plug out the hard disk from my laptop,

let him scan using paid version anti malware while chit-chatting with him,

plug back the hdd into the laptop. doh.gif

That is my histroy for a person who concern about the computer security, but unwilling to pay RM 33 per year because at that time it represents xx% of my monthly allowance. shakehead.gif

When i got my laptop in 2007, i only know about scanning the incoming media like USB pen drive. Until my friend explain the need of the internet threats and manage my own laptop's security properly, only then i willing to pay for the KIS. sweat.gif

I say KIS is sufficient for me for primary use. For those who perfer other AV, i say internet security is sufficient. Some AV comes with the total protection features that can only perform better than the disk cleanup. I prefer use the tuneup trial. it is best for me in term for maintaining the computer.

+1 on scanning USB pen drive.. and for goat sake, disable autoruns and autoplay(for vista and above). more than half of my customer got virus from USB drive via autorun. It is not that difficult to explore a USB drive and double click on the file you want, but it takes few hours to clean pc infected with Virut or Ramnit virus.

Good tip.

however, users not familiar with the regedit, please do not simply edit it. otherwise your PC cannot boot up during next startup if you screw up the registry.

Can anyone suggest an alternative internet security software? For purpose of comparison.

I ever used Kaspersky Internet Security and Avira Premium before they expired. No complaints for KIS, but Avira Premium sucks big time.

Before I decide to renew / purchase new KIS, can anyone suggest an alternative? I just want to compare.

Free Internet Security Suites?

Try Comodo:

http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Before installing Security Suites, install any AV/Suites that you have. Coz IS suites tend to crash with each other.

The thing I like about Comodo is they are relatively strong in term of HIPS protection. However it will need more technical knowledge to configure though.

You can also try Rising Internet Security, TrustPort Internet Security, eScan Internet Security and Trend Micro Internet Security which are also very efficient.

Here is a list from where you can choose various security software such as Internet security suites.

My experience with Avira.. So far every virus/torjan you name it, Avira manage to detect it. And it doesn't take up much memory or CPU at all.. scanning is also fast icon_idea.gif

Possible the Windows 7 update not complete yet.

It's normal when you uninstall a program from computer and restart computer and the boot up is fast..
because already less one program from your computer.

It working fine on my Windows 7...
Usually i will update all the Microsoft in Windows 7 (new pc bough on PC expo).. before install other application.

I would have to agree that a lot of publicity was done by Kaspersky as part of their marketing strategy (hiring ambassadors etc.). However, their products still does wonders for me. I usually use their full Internet Security suite for all my laptops/netbooks since it'll be used at public places pretty often. The safe surf feature is a great added bonus. biggrin.gif

BitDefender Total Security 2011 user here..

Hi guys,
Just want to know if anyone uses this before?
Eventually i was using Eset NOD32 and i changed to this.
Now, when i play game like NBA2k11, it got laggy..
Fyi, this game is a processor hog, even if i was using ESET NOD32, if i am shenderring files, the game itself will be laggy..
But now with Bitdefender, even if i did not do anything on background, it got laggy when i am playing NBA2k11...

Thus, is this Bitdefender a processor hog stuff?
I guess so, judging from the description above..

i've tried several AV/IS software. started with Norton several years ago, very slow for my old PC.

after that, i moved to bitdefender. it was great for me initially but started to behave like norton.

now, i'm using kaspersky IS. didnt buy it coz of promotion/publicity, but based on reviews and bcoz i want to try it. KIS works great for me. block/detects all threats. besides, its cheaper compared to other non-free solutions. i bought 3-licence version, 2 for me, 1 for nephew.

thats my personal experience.

I would like to ask that usually how you people purchase internet security software? Online through the maker's website or reseller?

My current Kaspersky Internet Security software will expire in just few days. I am considering buying Norton Internet Security. If I buy online through Norton website, it cost me RM169 (3 users) but I will be able to download it immediately. A lelong seller selling it at RM10x (3 users), but I need to wait for a few days for it to arrive.

Urm, I am thinking of getting a new AV for my coming new lappie. Currently comparing between bitdefender, kaspersky, norton 360, and trend micro titanium. Can anyone tell me which is the better one and why? I really don't mind paying for the AV as long as it is reliable and doing its job smoothly without having any problems. Thanks Guys! icon_question.gif

Some 'revelation' about Matousec comparative test:

Wrong. Emsisoft does not own parts of Tall Emu, Emsisoft has bought the intellectual property of the Online Armor product from Tall Emu.

Well, that little difference is reason for all the conflict we've got. Matousec denies the fact that Tall Emu no longer owns Online Armor and is still asking for money for it.

David Matousek thinks that "Online Armor" owes him money and therefore Emsisoft has to pay for it now. Which is quite nonsense because a product can't owe anybody money, only the maker of the product can. That's like me saying your toothbrush owes me $10...

I've clearly stated that Emsisoft will not continue to finance that crazy testing system and as a result, Online Armor was delisted, even if the earlier tests have been paid by Tall Emu correctly.

Currently, the vendor paying the biggest money stays on top of the ranking. Why? Every re-test costs money and the tests of all products are not performed at the same time. So it ends up in a battle of vendors paying for retests everytime a new test component is added. If you don't pay again, your product is ranked lower because there's another one paying to get the top score. Sorry, I can't support that. In my opinion that's a rip-off.

Tests ARE important for marketing. That's the main reason for vendors to support testing organizations. Each vendors needs those "best in test" stamps on the products to convince customers to buy.

Online Armor was always a top ranked product on the Matousec website, so there was no reason to not-use the test results for marketing. And in early days, the Matousec tests seemed to have a minimum of quality. Except the complete failure to include a behavior blocker product like Mamutu in the firewall tests.

However, Matousec tests are no longer valuable for users now and therefore we'll remove all references to them from our websites. The mentioned banner has already gone. Thanks for letting me know.

One of a few negativity that I heard about Matousec from AV / AM developers.

Maybe this is the reality of all comparative test in general. That's why I urge people to stop paying too much attention to figures, scores, ratings etc. Just use whatever that you trust and suit you most.

For me ESET is the best plus of their latest update on version 8 right now, unlike kaspersky IS that sometimes disturb the internet conection, blocked the LAN game, ESET pretty much light on sources and much not disturb you internet. Plus the detection are also up to 99%.

You might say, "ah, he is reseller of eset of course he will promote eset". Nope, im also a reseller for world No 1 Av and IS which is bitdefender, but it disturb causing my game to lag, (I test it last year), then i go for kaspersky on one of my laptop (this year) It totally blocked my internet connection at my University, and lastly i tried ESET on my gaming laptop, and it went smooth and detect viruses up to 99% instead of avira, quick heal and AVG cant detect.

So far, yes im quite satisfy with ESET.

I agree on the part u mention about light weight and absolutely fantastic when gaming. I was using AVG Free and Comodo as firewall, game can run but lag. I tho it was normal, until my friend gave me the eset smart security, ... whooit! no lag and game run even smoother. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Kaspersky is totally no no no....it runs like a lorry in my PC, looks like powerful but slow. mad.gif

Good. Very low CPU usage.
Automatically detect virus and malware, remove them instantly without manually.

In America, VIPRE antivirus won number one in Anti-Malware solution of the year. (2015 Computing Security Awards)

As you know, the price of VIPRE products are not cheap.

To share, good for 1 year only. After that are you gonna renew it?

Use Dr.Web Security Space v11 1 PC+1Mobile 1 Year, RM 69.90 free 16GB Pendrive. When you renew, it gives you extra 150 days... means another 5 months

DCRat malware targets Windows devices. And it's cheap and popular, which makes it a problem.

Beware: This cheap and 'homemade' malware is surprisingly effective
