So a year and a half ago I will fall under the median category hmm.gif  hmm.gif  hmm.gif

Damn... should have nego properly before accepting the offer  sad.gif

Not sure whether I should just stick to my current job in MY or go for SG and try to negotiate after the probation period....
*
negotiate after probation might not work because they will tell you that you sign the offer letter and agree to that salary.everything is still negotiable before you sign.

maybe you should ask if there is any increment after probation? hmm.gif

Now too late to renegotiate the offer liao...  sad.gif  since my S Pass is already approved. Later will give a very bad impression to the employer...
Already asked HR about increment, but the personnel just said that it depends on my performance... but usually this is the HR way of saying that there's none...

*
I face the same situation with you before, mine even worse where they mentioned that there are increment after probation yet i did not get (before sign offer letter), i even asked my manager and he helped he ask HR, the reply is that is not company culture, vmad.gif

that's y all these things, said verbally must request to put them in black n white somewhere.
then u will have some proof to demand when the time comes.
else, that's the response you are gonna get

i face the same situation before, so i got them to confirm the increment stuff via email although it's not written in the offer letter
it is also stated that it's not a company policy, but they will review
fair enough, my company kept to their side of the bargain and gave me the requested increment

if you feel that the company has short changed you, it's best to leave early
if they can go back on their word on things like this, what makes you think they won't do anything worse?
*
all the thing i do it in black and white only the non company policy, but when come to the not company policy issue, they can easily say after review and feel that no necessary increment needed. so far, only the initial increment issue bugged me, the rest still ok.

you have the option too

Hi I need some advice about working in SG again...

I've recently signed an offer for a 2 year contract position with an S pass. But i'm worried if the company decided to just terminate me within that period so that they do not need to increase my pay... I would really appreciate it if fellow lyn members here could kindly clarify some of my questions:

- Will I be able to seek employment elsewhere with the same pass or do I need to reapply again?
- If I reject the current offer, will I still be able to work in SG since the company has already applied for a pass for me.
- regarding the tax issue, for the first 183 days before year of assessment, I am considered as a non resident. So for the first 60 days, i do not need to pay any tax but from the 61 to 182 days my tax will be fixed at 15%; and only from the 183 days onward will I be regarded as a tax resident. Am I right, or is there anything else that I miss out. 15% tax out of 2.8k is damn high  cry.gif
*
you cannot say is terminate, i think most company practice should be finished off the 2 year contract, increase pay or no increase is up to company, you worked one year, if they want increase you, they will increase, if they dont want, you also cannot do anything right?

pass is depends on company one, each company has to apply, if you wish to seek another employment, current pass will be canceled, and new pass need to be applied.

you already signed the contract better check properly any T&C onot, if got, you get penalized. you still can find job dont worry.

Hi there,

I am a newbie to this forum.

Can i ask for advice and tips to look for a banking job in Singapore?

I have been working in corporate banking areas for more than 6 years, dealing mainly with MNCs and local companies. Am wondering how is the market there? Must be very challenging i think?

Or should i get a consumer banking job first, then look for another job later on? Cause my cousin can help me with that, if i were to opt for consumer banking line.

Any feedback is most welcome.

Regards,
*
advice and tips to look for a banking job in Singapore? is standard one, either you polish your resume or apply direct to the bank, if want better chance, find an insider.
Does how the market affect you coming down to work in SG? i guess the thing you want to know is does it worth change from malaysia to singapore right? this one is depend on yourself, i got some friend worked in malaysia before and coming down here to work, one very enjoy his work here and another work with alot stress.nobody can give you exact advise unless you tell them specific company and role, then someone worked on that post before can answer you.

if your cousin can help you, that is the fastest way and more reliable compare to apply online yourself. you can settle with that job first, feel the environment then you can roughly get the idea how is the environment on different field.

Ya, that the thing, you only can choose one of it, cheap and far or expensive and near. maybe you can get cheaper and near, but that depend on luck. nod.gif

Do most of the Singaporeans write and speak fluent Chinese? I'm thinking if my proficiency in Chinese gives me extra edge over Singaporean candidates if I apply for a job in investment line.
*
I dont think proficiency in chinese give you an edge, singaporean candidates always have the advantages over other unless the company is looking for cheap labor. hmm.gif

Hmm.. I dont think there will be next stage intervew anymore.. department manager would be the final stage.. if i were selected then most probably hr sends me offer letter and see whether i accept or not..
*
i suggest you keep looking for job,it is impossible you wait for their reply for two weeks. if two weeks no reply then you are good to move on, if you wait for them and stop looking for job, you will wasted two weeks.
i think the DM last three question is the most important and job related, i can see that the work stress is higher, if work stress higher then working environment is not better also. then reason to apply is mostly will ask by all company hiring manager.

QUOTE(light traveler @ Jul 7 2013, 07:25 AM)
please advise,

my bf going to graduate from a local uni. he did Bachelor of IT (hons) business information system.

would u advise him to get experience first in malaysia rather than coming to sg to hunt for a job as a freshgrad?

his friends can get $3k to $4k(with OT) working as support in a bank. well most of them end up working in IT department in a bank.

it seems like the pay is not bad. i fear when he comes here he will be getting low pay job like $1800 basic and dunno whether he can have any career advancement in sg companies.

if he can have a better job prospect in malaysia, then i dun wan him to come to sg for a low pay job because he wants to be with me here...
*
i think is best for your bf to apply for both side, then see which one he get first. then only decide. no one can guarantee that he will get a job in SG in a short period. i can see that the main concern is money. who say malaysia got career advancement but sg dont have? career advancement is based on how badly you want to climb higher, if you want to climb, anyhow you also can find a way for career advancement. apply both side then you can compare the career and salary. icon_rolleyes.gif

i think so.. sad.gif IT industry not the same in sg huh..

well also depends on how good the person is la.

i have be confident with him smile.gif
*
I guess he already make up his decision to come to sg to work so that can stay close to you. he should know what is his bottom line for salary, mean he know what he deserve for. that just try to apply at malaysia and singapore, no one can guarantee which interview come first. if you follow this thread then you know job hunting is depend one, some get within few week, few month, some even still searching...

but once you've gotten a job, things will be ok smile.gif

Ya, but i think best practice is to apply from both side, high chance he will get offer from malaysia first, then work and continue to find job, job hunting meanwhile earning money, win win condition rclxms.gif

Hi All!

Recently got an offer from a PR agency from Singapore as community manager for one of their clients here in Malaysia. So i would be employed by a SG company but able to work from home. (I Know, awesome right?)

My problem is... I have no idea what to ask for in terms of salary.

Normal community managers in MY is around RM3-5k, Currently im getting about RM3500 (full-time) but i know PR agencies are slightly higher. Would it be fair for me to request about SGD3-4K for contract position?

Dont want to be paid same like what they pay bangla at 711.

Please help. smile.gif
*
Ask for what you think worth for you, plus it is a contract position, should able to get higher than perm position.they offer you they should give you the figure they wish to offer you.
