Sell off everything in Malaysia, or just risk it lor. Same thing as how PR's are not allowed to rent out whole HDB, or Singaporeans can't rent out whole unit before MOP, but so many people do that "lock one room" wayang anyway.

One can always transfer the name to a family member.
I know my friends do it that way.

That's an option... but not 100% foolproof.

If your family member happens to be not very wise with their financial management, gambler etc... then you might one day find that there's nothing left of your house except for an apology.

It may also be not so drama... but let say you transfer to your sibling, and he/she unfortunately passes without leaving a will, then that property goes to his/her spouse... who may or may not be as straightforward as your sibling. Attitude of in-laws notwithstanding, without a will, the property will be stuck for quite a while the courts work out the details. Worse is your in-law also passes (car accident etc), then the property will be shared amongst the parents and siblings of both your sibling and your in-law. Then good luck trying to get it back.

If it were me... I'd set up a Sdn Bhd, sell the property to the company, and issue the shares back to me. Then I technically own a property company, not a property. If you want to be ultra safe... (maybe HDB's lawyer in Malaysia is conscientious enough to do both a title search AND a company search), then issue the shares to your parents or siblings and amend the M&A and AA that upon the death of a shareholder, the shares will be automatically distributed to the remaining shareholders.

ok...that nvr came into my mind at all. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Urgent... Please advise on where to collect my EP. Should I go to "Work permit service centre" at Tanjong Pagar Keppel Rd or "Employment pass service centre" at Upper Circuit Rd? HR inform me that MOM has been approved my EP application on today. Is that I must go down to sg and collect my EP within 7 working days start on the aprroved date by MOM?
*

check your IPA.
it should be written there.
if u are still unsure, call...there should be a number on the IPA

Hi I need some advice about working in SG again...

I've recently signed an offer for a 2 year contract position with an S pass. But i'm worried if the company decided to just terminate me within that period so that they do not need to increase my pay... I would really appreciate it if fellow lyn members here could kindly clarify some of my questions:

- Will I be able to seek employment elsewhere with the same pass or do I need to reapply again?
- If I reject the current offer, will I still be able to work in SG since the company has already applied for a pass for me.
- regarding the tax issue, for the first 183 days before year of assessment, I am considered as a non resident. So for the first 60 days, i do not need to pay any tax but from the 61 to 182 days my tax will be fixed at 15%; and only from the 183 days onward will I be regarded as a tax resident. Am I right, or is there anything else that I miss out. 15% tax out of 2.8k is damn high  cry.gif
*

i think if > 60 days but < 183 days...u get taxed on ALL the days you have worked on that year. I do not think you are exempted for the first 2 months.
cause if u do...then practically everyone only pay 10 months of tax instead of a full year.
anyway, the 15% will be rebated back to you once u work more than 183 days, if i am not mistaken, but it will be thru future deduction of tax.

QUOTE(hercules899 @ May 31 2013, 12:07 AM)
lol, your questions are just too simple. as i am so free, might as well.

No, once they terminate you, they will have to cancel the S-pass as well. you got less then some days, 10 days maybe to stay

Normally if they terminate you before 183 days, they will hold some portion of your salary for they tax in case you no longer work in SG. if you are to continue working for other employer in SG , the tax authority will come after your current employer .

correct me if i am wrong

2.8 K for a fresh graduate/malaysian is considered good salary.
*

30 days

QUOTE(JohnJon82 @ May 31 2013, 12:55 AM)
Since you signed then cannot turn back. I assume there are some exit clause if you quit within this 2 year you need to pay some penalty?

Company should not hold your salary for your income tax in SG? You pay your own tax yourself next April.

You worry too much. You do geotechnical design with so many uncertainties you no need to sleep at night.  biggrin.gif
*

if u work less than 183 days...some companies will withhold your salary for that purpose in case u "flee" the country and they have to pay for it.

QUOTE(samual8833 @ May 31 2013, 01:38 AM)
Is that the income tax is fix at 15% on every years? Or, it will increase on every years?

depend on ur pay grade.

Hi all,
This is my 1st post. Hope to get some suggestion I am Penang people (26 years old) who working for automation industry for 5 years already. Recently thinking to change job.

I get a offer from Singapore (SGD 3600) and a offer from Penang (RM 4000).

-Singapore-
Salary: SGD 3600 (No epf)
Rental : SGD 700
Transport and other expenses : SGD 1000
Left SGD 2000.

-Malaysia-
Salary : RM 4000(epf 13%), Total RM4520
Rental : RM 210
Transport and other expenses : RM 1000
Left RM 3310.

After compared, Savins in SG minus savings in Malaysia. The differences is around RM 1500. I love staying in Malaysia. BUt the extra income that can earn from SG is kinda attractive too.
Both is waiting for me to sign my offer letter. I have a very hard to struggle where to choose.
Hope I can get some opinion/suggestion here...

One point is, I will definately come back if I'm working in SG.
*
this would be the first ever time i seen someone take EPF into saving consideration sweat.gif sweat.gif
if that is to be considered, u can take into account in future for CPF...3rd year onwards employer is 16% (can ask for 3rd year straight also) rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif
i do not know much abt the automation industry, but in my opinion, it would be a good opportunity to venture out of the comfort zone a bit since you are still quite young.
the offer seems pretty much good too.

nah... i think the rate is more like 1800-2500 for a legally rentable 3 room hdb (2 bedrooms).. anything smaller is not legal although you can see ads going for around 800-1k for studio hdbs which are actually illegal
*
care to explain the illegal part?
in case next time i look for a unit, i know what to beware of

Dear Friends,

I just get my approval and they required me to do my medical first in SG before they proceed with my EP card and etc.

My basic is 3000 SGD, so I assume I will get the Q1 EP.

I just wondering regarding the Tax, as in my contract of employmeent. On the tax part, it is written that all the income tax is under IRAS and SG goverment.

Is that mean I have to declare and pay my own?

Can otai here advise me regarding the amount of Tax? I have look at IRAS website but still not really understand on the procedure.

I probably start work in SG this August 2013.

Thank you all.
*

on the pass, probably Q1...but there is also chances of S pass though slimmer.

Tax...some company sign up for the "auto register" thingy.
this means they will submit the total amt they pay u to IRAS
u just go in to file the reliefs u are entitled for and click submit...if nothing to declare, just log in and click submit.
if they are not under the auto register, i suppose they will give u a form like in m'sia stating ur annual income (my company auto register and i duno anyone working in company without auto register)
amt of tax...there should be a tax calculator somewhere in iras website.

There are 2 types of 'illegal arrangements'

1) HDB don't allow owners to rent out if its smaller than 3 room flat.. CLICK HERE FOR THE RULES OF RENTING HDB UNITS.. there are alot of ads out there that you may think it's actually legal, but caveat! HDB reserves the right to kick you out immediately if their officers find out or if a member of public rattles you out. Be careful particularly with Studio HDB units (1 room or sometimes they called it L-shaped studio) where government rents out to low income people. Avoid this at all costs!

2) renting a whole 3 room flat or bigger where the owner has not stayed for more than 5 years. Technically within this 5 years period called the MOP (minimum occupational period), the landlord cannot fully rent out the whole unit, but they can rent a few rooms. So to get around this, they will just lock 1 door and have their belongings in there. Technically this is illegal since the landlord is not occupying the room, but HDB will not be able to verify as the landlord and yourself can easily bluff that the landlord will come back to stay time to time. So, this is actually pretty safe smile.gif

But whatever the rules are, you can always rely on the housing agent to tell you what's right or wrong. But it is important to check your agent's background bcos the fact is that there are unscrupulous agents out there out to make a fast deal of your money, and will be uncontactable if something goes wrong:-
a) Registered (check "http://www.cea.gov.sg/cea/app/newimplpublicregister/publicregister.jspa").
b) A registered agent, will follow all compulsory formalities, like taking down your details to register the arrangement with HDB. This involves you paying about $15 bucks for the registration, and you can expect HDB to mail you the receipt within a few days.

hope this helps, any advise needed, just pm me...
*
1. your link refers to subletting of rooms
meaning u rent out rooms instead of the whole unit
you CAN rent out the whole unit even if it is a studio...if you are a citizen and fulfilled the MOP and got approval. read here

2. ya, I know of such arrangements.
i personally prefer not to have such issues later.

Something new. I don't know how your case is possible. But my sis-in-law asked JPJ recently, the law still same like the time I applied. Only can hold one driving license, have to cancel the other one. I remember they punch hole to my MY driving license when applying.
*
the law is that way...but in our malaysian way, most are not bothered
jpj cannot punch a hole in ur licens cause if they do, how are u leaving jpj since most of us drive? u have not yet convert and ur license just got invalidated.
sg will not destroy a foreign country document
so yea..the law says that one can only hold either a MY or SG license, but jpj sometimes tend to ignore the extra work.

seems like u can change bus at jln kayu using 168 so no need to walk the bridge and use bus 39

Anyone here applied for multiple SIM cards at Singtel?

Assuming I have a smartphone, can I apply another SIM card which share the same number with my smartphone to be used on my tablet?

In other words, 2 same SIM cards sharing the data quota (1 for phone and 1 for tablet). Is this possible in Singtel?
*

yes u can
but u need to pay extra, how much, i am not sure

How do you guys save your rainy day funds? StanChart bonu$saver seems the best so far at 1.88% as long as u swipe $500/mth on credit card. Anything better?
*

the problem is spending 500 every month for me. laugh.gif laugh.gif
starhub bills (my wife and I) + pub does not reach 500 per month. sweat.gif sweat.gif
dun really enjoy paying insurance premiums by month
so i went with cimb.

in m'sia, i have my maybank (for easy access) and citibank (main acc as my family uses citibank)
in sg, i have my posb (for salary), citibank (well, used to be for savings before having CIMB but still maintaining) and cimb.
i went to the cimb at orchard, bside paragorn.
service is a bit screwed up....needed to go twice to open an account and the time i spend there was quite long.
but at least, it opens 7 days a week.

Hi, I have gotten the IPA letter for my EP. However, my passport will expire on March 2014. Does it mean that the expiry date of my EP will only up to March 2014? can i renew the passport now? (the IPA letter has already registered with my current passport number)
*
Yes you can.
When you come over to Sg, bring along your old passport to verify that you are that person.
That was what I did when I came.
I renew my passport 1 week before coming to Sg too.

but it still would not change the EP validity/expiry date in IPA issued.
*

the IPA just ties to individual...in the case for us foreigners, it will be the passport.
if you renew your passport, you are still the same person.
all u need to do is prove that the passport number in the IPA is you, there is no issue.

The IPA is only to allow you to start work before completing the process and getting your card while on visitor pass
You being able to enter SG is not the business of MOM...tat would be your own problem.
There is also a condition that one must have a valid visit pass.

the period of the EP is either 1 or 2 years generally based on the form the employer fill up and whether MOM grants it
should have nothing to do with your passport expiry (unless your passport is already expired, then I have no experience with this).

So i just submit the medical report together wif the new passport copy?
*

yes...the passport number on my IPA is different from the one in my passport I used to enter SG (which I eventually used for my fingerprinting in MOM)
Just make sure you remember to bring along your old passport.
They might want to see it for verification purposes.
