btw he's using IS pointing upwards. how effective is IS pointing upwards, I also donno.

I can't tell the difference between 1.2L at 1.4 and sigma 50 f/1.4 at 1.4.
Provided both at tack sharp focus.

Canon f/1.4 confirm softer than sigma or the 1.2 at f/1.4.
Noticeable difference? Yes.
Does it matter ? Not really unless you pixel peep.

Canon 50mm f/1.4 - very good lens, just being soft wide open. if you're like me who shoots f/4 and narrower most of the time then no problem with it.

if i don't have a 50mm f1.4, i would go for 40mm f2.8 STM as well.

edited : come to think of it - I still intend to get a 40mm f2.8 stm.

f/1.8 II is totally no comparison to the f/1.4

the f/1.8 II is so plastic, it hunts and it does not have USM for FTM purpose.

buy lens is not all about IQ mah. correct IQ not much difference. I have both too. You step down whatever can't tell them apart BUT the difference comes when using it. 50mm f1.8 II i vomit blood using haven't use it for a long time. Sitting in dry box as backup only.

for hobbyists, I find 50mm f1.8 II enough. No need to go for f/1.4 unless you really have a lot of money.

for the price you pay it's actually worth it la, have to live with the occasional hiccups but it's not that bad.

however I saw some people use the 50mm f1.8 II on 5D Mark II / 1D-X ...... really AIYOH case.

My bad. I've really bad experiences with the nifty fifty which served me well until it gave me non focusing moments in lesser lights (read lesser and not low) and breaking in two parts on small drops. (I managed to put it back together thanks to Youtube) which ended up as a gift to a buyer who bought my 60D. But all in all, if you pay RM250 for the lens, better learn not to complain. It's a real performer for the price (that's if you have no other friends who have better 50mm lenses than you).

it really depends on individual.

to me - they all feel the same, no kidding. even if you use 1D vs 650D - the speed difference is like mili-seconds.

even I'm baffled why they say 5D2 is slow and 7D is fast. Like i mentioned earlier, I would've have not felt the difference. half-press - focus. good.

I use so from entry level to 1D also I don't feel the AF speed difference la.
some people say 60D slow. I use also no problem.

some people say 5D2 slow like 550D ......... but I use 550D also no problem. didn't find it slow either.

like I said earlier, different people will perceive it differently.

the AF speed difference to me is too minute to make any difference. Even my super dinosaur 350D AF is faster than my eye + brain + finger coordination.
