do we need to go to SSC to apply for graduation process ?

or the online graduation process is sufficient ?.
*
Currently my status is still "Active" and i was wondering as well, but my friend told me there are specific process that we need to do for completion of studies..

here is what I got :
QUOTE
Step 1:
Go One Stop takes 2 types of form
a)Academic transcript
b)Verification latter form
letter of acknowledgement (for graduating student)

Step 2:
For a),
After fill in d details please pay at finance first before you submit back to One Stop.
It takes few days to process.

For b),
After fill in d details please go to finance and library counter for d purpose of declaration(there are column for finance and library in d form).
This form can be only submitted to One Stop after you get a)academic transcript.
Photocopy one set of academic transcript and submit together v d form.
It takes few days to process.

Step 3:
After you collect b) from FOB not One Stop ya, go to ERU and show them b) together v your ID to get another letter.

Step 4:
Wait your status changes to graduate from active then proceed v online graduation application.
Your name will appear in graduation list.

I guess I'll be heading to OSC next monday and see how =_=

QUOTE(Alish_sj @ Sep 4 2013, 11:52 PM)
Hey, do you know how's the employment rate of graduates of mmu in computer science(software engineering)? I heard some got hired even before they graduate, is it true? How's the job prospect of computer science in Malaysia? Is it in demand and what's the starting pay?
*
I graduated recently, I got called for job interviews during my final semester and even got several job offers. As someone graduated from FCI (Software Engineering and Games Design) I would say among my friends that I know who have recently graduated with me together (many from FCI and FCM) we got a job right away after the interview within the time we completed our final semester to 2 months ahead. Employers usually head hunted potential MMU students with great performance not just by having First Class degree, but also in communication, thinking, and attitude. None that I know so far had trouble to get a job within 3 months time frame.

This being said, the employment rate to me personally doesn't matter because what matter the most is about yourself, how good do you perform, how excel do you handle and manage your work, priority, willingness and effort. I've turned down 3 jobs, for the job I currently have my starting salary is RM3XXX basic as a Software Engineer in a corporation, other than myself there are a few others who're able to fetch more than RM3k basic salary as a fresh graduate.

It sounds motivating I know, but you have to show yourself to the company why they should give you a higher amount, and the more they pay you the more expectations and confidence they have in you. I personally had taken all my assignments and projects during my time in MMU seriously and got it well documented, and this is where they are convinced of my skillset other than to show my CGPA (to be honest, there are two types of good CGPA holder, one is they just study to score by the book but how they perform at work may not be as much, or like my self I apply knowledge that contributes to rather good, but not perfect CGPA after all if you are good at your course of interest then you should not have bad CGPA). There are many first class holder had starting salary of 2600~2800 at maximum 3000, and I do know second-lower class students had as much as first class holder starting salary so it varies from company to company depending on how they practice in their recruitment process. As for others vary between 2.2k~2.5k basic.

But this applies towards FCI courses... FCM graduates... It is unfortunate that many started off with just RM1.8k even they are first class or second doh.gif

The prospects of Computer Science are huge, you have to decide which career path you want to go as almost everything right now require computers for its business operations. Ranging from Medical to Military to Business management, entertainment software and applications and whats best is that you have better chances to go oversea simply because the demand for software engineers are very high, and currently Forbes listed software development career as #1 on their website .

My tips? Have these 4 elements stand by in your code of work
1) Skill
2) Creativity
3) Business Thinking
4) Character

P.S : @HumanNature, I've turned down LimKokWing job offer because I got a better offer straight after tongue.gif

Wow, that's a great answer smile.gif motivated me(and I'm sure many others as well) did you do your foundation there? Do you think someone who has no background in programming at all in their pre-u can get first class or second in computer science?
*
Nope, my result for my SPM was so bad so I redeem my self by doing Diploma in IT @ Melaka. It is upon my completion of my diploma is when I pursue for my Degree.

As for you question about not having background in programming I can guarantee you that it is all about your psychology of whether you can do it or you can not do it. I know some people who're having different degree major such as Electrical engineering, chemical engineering, even from arts becoming a programmer as their career =) how they do it? they just have a strong willpower to get their hands on programming to learn. My advice in terms of programming is that you have to get your self motivated to learn, independent and understand the concept well. It will be tough at first but rest assured once u understood how programming works then everything else should be easy. But of course to develop a good software is a challenge, not in terms of the programming but the design of your code structure. To learn programming is like to learn how to write words and sentences, to develop a software is like to write a book. People can write story books, but to write a good story for the book is entirely on how good you are to construct nice sentences and plots. Just the same as to program a good software =).

It is 100% possible to get 1st class , just make sure you understand what you're learning, not memorizing. Also, able to self-learn and do research about the subjects other than just relying on the notes or what being thought in the class that is what I do, basically expand your perspective broader haha. Make programming practice as a habit, set your mentality of like "if they can do it, why not me?" and make sure you don't get influenced by others that prefer to stay average. I have sacrificed a few friends simply because I cannot afford to keep going back to them when I'm moving forward, so this is one of the external challenges other than jealousy for your performance sad.gif . Another thing, keep your good attitude and humbleness even though you are a high achiever because employers look for best attitude with the best performance smile.gif . Hell, I know one arrogant guy with first class degree had a hard time to get a job because of his bad attitude in the end the employer hired another person with a great attitude but second-upper class.

I'll definitely have that mindset smile.gif did you do your degree in mmu cyberjaya? Do you study everyday? Your explanation was very clear.thanks:) How often do you have presentations? Is MMU's computer science degree recognized internationally(if I want to either work overseas or pursue my masters)? Sorry for asking so many questions haha
*
Yes I've done my degree in Cyberjaya. To be honest I did not study a lot simply because I pay attention in class and take down notes on paper even though I got printed notes with me to understand whats happening and not to memorize what being thought. But for exams and quizzes of course I had to study a few days earlier for the particular subjects. How I do this is that by my assignment I've applied my understanding onto it creating my own solution, getting your hands on is the best way to learn. Most of the time I google the problems that I'm facing for my assignments and project not to see how other people solve it, but also to understand how it works (I do reverse engineering). Spoonfeeding won't make you understand the work around of programming. Frankly my life in MMU I was pretty relaxed for most of the time except final exam season, just make sure you are well prepared and prioritize things that need to be done.

I'm not saying that I did not have any failures but in fact I have some failures in some subjects because of many reasons. My method sometimes not working, being too ambitious, or relaxed too much thinking I could nail it, social problems like with someone special to you etc. But from these failures I redeem my self by getting A for the second time by fixing what I did wrong haha. It was a serious mental torture just to motivate myself to recover from my failures, but it made me stronger today.

Depending on the subjects you're taking some don't have presentations but it is pretty often to have presentations, in fact I enjoy presentations a lot this is where I intimidate my classmates who looked down upon me cool2.gif .

About its international recognition I would say it is internationally recognized especially Australia, Korea, and Japan. I did not saying this bluntly simply because before I pursue my degree in Cyberjaya I actually admitted to Monash University Australia, Melbourne campus using my Diploma. And I credit transferred my subjects from my Diploma and skip my foundation. However I took the wrong course sad.gif , I thought of to follow my father footstep of doing Computer systems and Electrical Engineering but it is just not into my liking. So when I wanted to change my course, but my scholarship provider don't allow me to do so, ended up I went back to Malaysia because I'm not from a rich family to support the cost of living and the fees over there sweat.gif .

In MMU you can apply for student exchange programme for your internship as many of my friends went to Korea and Japan. The Korean universities have pretty close ties with MMU anyhow, there are my friends pursue their master degree in Korea right now with scholarship from either MMU or the Korean Government.

No worries about asking, unless you're asking something like what is computer science that is easily to be found by googling then.... haha

P/S : I have my own Wordpress Page as my portfolio where I put some of my assignments and projects work to be included in my resume. I got headhunted by expanding my reputation with MMU lecturers, and by having linkedIn profile and Wordpress.

Are there any differences in employability between monash malaysia and mmu computer science graduates? Are you planning to pursue your masters? Normally how many subjects do you take per trimester? Is it possible to finish the course in less than three years(because I heard mmu has 3 trimesters compared with other universities which only have 2semesters per year)? You must be a top student in your year smile.gif

1)Are there any differences in employability between monash malaysia and mmu computer science graduates?
In my point of view, Monash MY and MMU are both tier-5 rank university in the country. And in terms of employability should not have much differences as it is more towards your character.

2) Are you planning to pursue your masters?
I do have that in mind, but I would like to work for now to see whether is it necessary for me to pursue a master degree. Normally among my peers they do master for various reasons:
A) They want to have secondary specialization ( degree in engineering, master in computer science like that).
B) To play safe, since there are quite some students feared that it is hard to get a job so they do master to boost their chances, else to be a lecturer as the backup plan.
C) To be an academician.
D) To pioneer new things, new technology by doing research and development.

As for me the reason that I have to pursue a master degree is to have secondary specialization, thinking of MBA by coursework.

3) Normally how many subjects do you take per trimester?
I took 4~6 subjects per semester (long) and 1~3 subjects for short semester, I had few subjects credit transferred from my Diploma.

4) Is it possible to finish the course in less than three years(because I heard MMU has 3 trimesters compared with other universities which only have 2semesters per year)?
If you able to cramp 6~7 subjects without clashing then I think it may be possible. Other universities have 2 semesters with a pretty long break, but as for MMU we had 3 semesters which is 2 long semester and 1 short semester like a summer course in Australia, US, maybe UK. So our semester break is around 3 weeks, in some cases reduced to 2.

You must be a top student in your year smile.gif
There were up and down in my years, but I'm definitely not the top student ahah, but I got invited to be a member for Golden Key International Honour Society.

How many subjects do you have to take in order to graduate? Did anyone finish the course in less than three years?
Its counted by credit hours, if I remember well it should have 128 credit hours and each subjects has 1~4 credit hours.

Did anyone finish the course in less than three years?
Two junior of mine entered the degree programme about 2 years ago and currently doing their final semester. If I'm not mistaken they took 2.4 years to complete with credit transfer from diploma. If from foundation then it is hard for me to answer.

In order to be able to participate in the student exchange program, what are the qualifications that one must have?
My friends who participated in the student exchange program had their CGPA at Second-Upper Class and above(3.34~3.66 for second-upper, 3.67~4.0 for first).

Is it competitive to be considered in the program?
It is pretty competitive as you have to go through interview questions to test your character, personality, ability to adept the new environment as well as your English speaking.

In what month do October intake students normally graduate?
It depends how they perform during their studies, some graduated in time while some extended. Hard to answer the question but if everything in order you should be graduated by your programme duration.

Did you get first class honours?
When I got invited for the Golden Key I was a first class student, but as I said there were times where I went down due to external reasons, well... social relationship and stuffs like that i got heavily affected that led me into a great depression but it is the point where I have developed the character that I have today. So at my graduation I was Second-Upper class nearing First class, although to get a salary more than RM3k as a fresh graduate tends to be for the first-classer, but I had supporting portfolio and on-site technical test challenge to prove that I've already make-up for my loss of First-class. I don't want to repeat and extend some subjects and waste my time to get first-class again because I wanted to graduate in time but of course, at least with above average CGPA lol. *I had two friends extended their studies by one year to resit several subjects to get first-class but upon graduation they had starting salary of 2,600 ~2,800, when my other friend with second-lower class started with a salary of RM2200 got appraised to RM3000 after a year but he had shown good performance).

What do you mean by saying that I can do my internship in the student exchange program?Do you mean interning in an oversea company without actually going to classes?

Yes, my friends who went to Korea did their internship as Researcher in Korean University and some do internship in some Korean Company in South Korea. Internship is where you get the taste of working experience after you graduate. Usually if you perform well in your internship the company tends to offer you to work there upon your graduation.
