Hmm.. base on my understanding not every flash is wipe cause it depending on the ROM version you use some will auto wipe and some not. Normally Samsung or developer will specify in their changelog.

Ehmm... maybe i have advice before but for your case you can try to..

1. Make sure you phone is detected by your PC, otherwise reinstall Kies.
2. Make sure you download clean ROM, maybe your previous download is corrupted.
3. Launch PC ODIN
4. Engage Phone with PC, make sure you PC searching for new device is completed.
5. In PC ODIN ensure ID:COM show port detection
6. Only check PDA and point the ROM and Auto Reboot and F. reset time is tick.
7. Press start
8. Patiently wait till completed.

Hope this is help. Can recall why not send to SC, due to warranty Void or warranty over?

I have just safe a S2 from bootloop. For your information the bootloop is caused by instability of old battery. Meaning this can be happening to S3 when our Battery is in almost end stage, still can charge but % drop very fast and not stable.
