dun think the first gen can be modded to make calls.  Since you are not going to use it as phone, why bother by this anyway.    Just get a Samsung Note 8.0 if deep inside your heart, you think you will need to make some phone calls with it someday somehow.

There is a significant difference in using a 7 inch tablet vs a 6.4 inch phablet. I have both n seriously until you have experienced it you won't appreciate the difference.  On paper the display difference of 0.6 inch is insignificant but practically is different. One looking for a tablet which cannot make calls will not be considering a phablet. I bought the N7 mainly to keep myself up to date with the development of Google firmware n used it mainly at home only.
