Bought my Rift S september last year. Been using this for 8 months and have had issues with the microphone intermittent failure. But not really an issue for me since I use external mic anyway.

Today while in game, the headset screen develops dark area on the bottom part and green smudges in between. Closed my PC and VR and gave it a few hours before starting it up again only to find the same issue still.

Then i detached everything and re-seat the connection on the headset. Plug it in back and voila, the screen stays black (feels like the entire screen has succumb to the dark area problem from earlier). The audio still plays and viewing the vr from desktop shows that it is still tracking well and controller is still tracked as well. Just the screen became dark on the headset (tho the screen is powered on as it lits up but stays dark).

But I am really satisfied with Rift S especially the controller and changeable battery. Contacted Oculus support just in case they have solution (not expecting exchange obviously as not under their warranty criteria).

Went to see if I can buy a new set. and everything is sold out and out of stock and good lord the current prices from re-seller is just too much.

Oh well. end rants. Goes back being depressed and cooped up in my room. fml.

So why is it not under warranty criteria? It looks like an LCD/OLED problem or potentially cabling issue
*
The warranty apparently only covers the supported countries that they listed on their website. Malaysia isn't one of them. Since the item is shipped outside of the supported countries, it became void according to them.

There's multiple case like this reported on reddit and they dont offer replacement, just technical advice only. There's even a case of a guy who bought it from US, bring it to Philippines and it is faulty and willing to bring it back to US to get replacement but Oculus refuse to offer one since it has been brought outside of their supported region.

A guy from India asked the same thing about warranty replacement and official response from oculus staff is that they won't offer replacement since it's not under their supported countries.

Only way to get replacement if you lived outside of the supported countries is if you buy from authorized reseller like Amazon or BestBuy who can offer their own replacement.

I bought from Malaysian reseller who offer 3 months warranty. But I'm in contact with Oculus support staff. Hopefully they can help sort it out. But just skeptical of getting a replacement.

Ah ok, thankfully my HTC Vive is still going strong after almost 4 years. Best of luck mate.

Thanks. If it's not replaceable or repairable, I'm thinking of getting a vive as well. And get full body tracking.

If it's fixable, probably going to buy the base stations and trackers to get full body tracking. I really like oculus controller more than others even the knuckles one isn't that attractive to me.

So the Rift S kaput already? ohmy.gif
My 3 years old Rift CV1 still ok only the audio got issue on the headphone cable. Try fix diy can only be used for a month. So i just remove the headphone and use BT headphone. Problem solved.

My Quest right touch controller got crack but still work.. just wrap with duct tape. Try asked Oculus support they can send new replacement but i need to send my controller to them and they only can ship the new one to US address. Quite costly to send and to bring back here + i wont have controller for more than a month so i skip la. hopefully my crack controller wont have any  problem biggrin.gif

Yea, I contacted support and went through the troubleshoot with them until even the screen won't turn on anymore lmao. I suspected the cable DisplayPort is a gone case since the end of troubleshooting, I tried to unplug the cable from the PC, it flickers just by touching the cable. And sure enough, after re-plugging in back, the screen won't even power on and not detected on the oculus software.

They asked to send in the full headset and controller for replacement. But yea, shipping cost back and forth and tax is around USD 300-400. And there's cases of the item is still defective or has issue that require it to be send back in again. So I don't want to take that risk since it's quite expensive.

I'm still searching for anyone who uses Rift S, if i can borrow the cable to test and see if it's the cable or the headset itself is broken.
Hit me up if you are willing to help~ ^^

And I ordered HTC Vive. Don't want to deal with Oculus again. tongue.gif

I'm new to vr gaming. Looking for recommendation for a vr set. Eying on oculus rift s but dunno where to buy, today saw liang shopee got stock but it's bundle 3 with price around 3.5k . Is it normal price for oculus rift s?
*
I got mine from him last year without bundle for RM2400. I'm not surprised the price has increased tho. The stock right now is very scarce and reseller has been increasing the price like crazy. last week in shopee, that set cost around RM 2600. but this week every seller increased the price to at least RM3100. You might as well check amazon or bestbuy if they ship to malaysia and compare the total set, shipping and tax price with what's offered by local reseller.

Oh and do note that the guy is a nice guy but his offered warranty is just 3 months. There is other seller that offer 1 year warranty. (mine is broken after 8 month)

if you really want it right now and have the money to burn, then go ahead. but yea, right now isn't really a good time to buy them due to stock and price hike.

and tbh, oculus is kinda focused on the Quest development more. And with oculus link, it might be worthwhile to check out Quest and compare it with the Rift S.

Nice, gonna go to optometrist on monday to check my eye and then order a pair.

Bought virtual desktop on oculus store and enabled the dev mode with sidequest. It's wild that you can play PCVR games wirelessly.

I bought 3rd party cable and it works for the oculus link, but the charging speed is a lot slower compared to the short cable that came in the box that the battery dies even when plugged in when in use. I guess I'm gonna buy the official 5m link cable as well.

I saw a lot of report of crack issues with the elite strap on reddit lately, so I decided to cancel my order on one of those. But mostly because I don't feel any discomfort with the regular strap at all. smile.gif

Have been using virtual desktop streamer with sidequest to play pcvr games and the only issue for me is the 1-2 second lag of mic input through VD in multiplayer. But easily overcome with wired/wireless headset.
