I got the DK2 yesterday. Tax is 15% around RM 191. The virtual desk really blow me away as it really feel you are inside the virtual world. The tuscany demo give me a major headache when using gamepad to walk around as it's feel real and give motion sickness when your view is not sync to your body.

Going to get Saitek X55 to try out flight and space sim. Should be awesome with head tracking.

what the total charges? inclusive of tax?

The queue now is quite long. If you order now, might take a few months. The virtual world is really convincing for DK2. I try out the desk demo and it really feel you are in the cyber space. The 6DOF tracking is really good. Tuscany demo is impressive but do give me headache if move too fast using the joystick. I think it is because the world looks real that you body feel disconnected with the virtual world when using the joystick to turn. I'm going to try out Elite Dangerous space sim. Just paid USD 75 for the beta version.

they say next batch is september, but i can wait till dec. since i by right only got free up by then to do projects.

Mine is in.

Lots of stuff still feels flakey. There's a new SDK out (0.4, with a new point release 0.4.1 earlier today) that doesn't work that well with older APIs. A number of weird crashes and random things needed to be done before it works properly.

Wearing glasses with the rift is annoying, but my nearsightedness still requires glasses to see inside the rift properly. Need a lot of fiddling with the rift to get the HMD to fit just right, otherwise, everything is very blur and motion sickness inducing.

There's not a lot of apps updated to handle the DK2 properly yet, and even Elite: Dangerous (which I don't have) is still running on the old API.

There's a scratch on one of the lens already. They're plastic (lighter) but easier to scratch.

Your graphics rig needs to be good enough to run 75fps consistently on 1080p on whatever app you'd be running.

IMHO, everything is new, bleeding edge and raw, and it'd be a few months before things are easier on the casual user, including getting a UI/UX that makes sense with a HMD.

UI/UX: it's still a freaking pain to take off the HMD, click on GUI to launch an app, and put the HMD back properly.

Best app to get a good feel of all the VR goodness right now would be SightLine: Chair http://sightlinevr.com/index.html

Oh, had to pay extra customs duty of RM 125.70

Alright, any other questions?

thanks for the short review.
the ui/ux for glasses i very worry.
i thought it should be better and improved than dk1.

The UI/UX issues is not a DK1/DK2 issue, more like for apps to adapt to the HMD paradigm. e.g. how a touch based interface requires different things compared with mouse+keyboard interfaces.

One problem is that too many apps right now treats the HMD as just a fancy 3D display, e.g. not fully making use of the head tracking. This can be very nauseous.

Also, putting on the HMD is like putting on a blind fold. The display needs to provide some feedback and you need to assume finding keys and mouse is hard with HMD on. (e.g. Press F12 to recenter, but use WASD to move around, wtf. That's hard even for a touch typist).

Sound design/implementation needs to be fixed so that we can choose either speakers or headphones. Right now, too many apps assume it's headphones and have sound coming from wrong direction if you have speakers.

P.S.  Clear your table and surroundings before putting on HMD. Knocked over too many cups and banged head on things.

setup was to be headset + controller.

According to Engadget, the next wave of Oculus' latest VR headsets will only start shipping in October.

If you pre-order now, probably you need to wait till next year LOL
*
i was gonna pre-order it then i saw that news.
Holding off now, get consumer instead.

If you can wait then better wait for the CV1, by that time GPU tech should've caught up to sustain 1440p@90fps.

that's exactly what i am thinking, but i think this thread should warm up very soon.
