I'm guessing you're new to  backups like Titanium Backup? Data loss won't be a problem. 

Suggest you to flash a Custom Kernel. Stock 4.3 + Stock Kernel is laggy.

For kernel, try Fancy. It's the best kernel I ever used. Performance + Battery both good on this phone. No joke!
It's fluid for me

Unplugged last night at 2am, now charging. Started charging after 19 hours on time with 3 hours screen on. Got use GPS with 3G on when I'm outside for whole day. Quite amazing I must say. 2 hours screen on at 50% point. But after 50% I used GPS with 3G on so it drains a lot faster At 9% left I got 3 hours screen on.

CM and AOKP are the ones that introduced most of the features now included in all custom ROM. Other ROMs normally just include them and fix bugs in the process but not really write those coding from the scratch. Then they're joined by Paranoid Android which introduced some very unique features like PIE, Halo and Hybrid Settings. Slim Bean also contributed some but not as much as the other 3 (best from Slim Bean for me should be Dark Slim Bean toggle).

Then I normally use ROM that combine everything, all-in-one. If the developer is good enough, such a ROM can be very stable and smooth, at the same time include all goodness from all those major custom ROM maker.

CM and AOKP should have almost same number of customization but those All-in-one will have both of them, integrated in each other into ONE ROM. If you get what I mean.

Actually not many ppl is using Pure CM or Pure AOKP now. All using ROM like Cyclon, Purity, Xenon, Slim Bean, Vanir etc etc that includes cherry pick not just from CM or AOKP but both. I personally prefer Orca Project.

All in one ROMs I mentioned are like Orca, Domination, PAC that kind that has all customization from CM and AOKP, also hybrid/halo/pie from ParanoidAndroid and Dark Slim Bean toggle too.

You should just try one of them then you know whether it suits you. If it doesn't suit you, just change another one and try. Just make sure you backup before that

Profile setting is CM thing. I don't really use profile either. Disable it everytime I set up.

after ota, my phone cannot get past "X" boot logo, even after factory reset in recovery mode. any advise?

for me cataclysm is vy stable for me compare to my previos jellyBAM 4.2.2 version. sunday flash until now bo fc or hang or wat ever. run smooth just like new handset.... but battery is not improve as much i expected la..... anyway that is not really a issie for me as this nexus is my spare phone, i use it back due to new rom version...
i saw some user mention that they have fc in certain apss... i jsut share my experience here...for my case i wipe data/factory reset, then goto advance wipe the dalvik cache, then i wipe cache partition , after install the new rom, i go and wipe data / factory reset. ...

after wipe everything i reboot and everything fine here....

by the way,....why i wipe so many things my music and data folder still around 1 ? can guide me  if i want totally wipe it ?
