U dont need to be a day earlier..as i said u need to start the journey in the mid of the nite, from what I see, won't have any problems to spot a group of them. As I said it's all personal preferences.
BTW using ur reasoning, u have a beach here in M'sia, why bother go Bali, heck even Astro shows all Bali stuff, why bother.  whistling.gif
*
well, its preferred you go over earlier a day as you'll relax more, spend a day in lovina.. spotting them wont be a problem i guess, in fact I once seen it on my way back form pg island on a ferry in the middle of the night, but that was years ago.

um.. true but i don't think there's a lot of balinese show in astro isn't it? and please la.. malaysia got beaches like kuta beach? sure or not? malaysia got beaches like dreamland? tanah lot? laugh.gif

ok mayb not tanah lot.. but the general idea is.. there's no seaside/coast that looks like those in bali that exists here in my. probably due to the waves.. awesome.. GODLIKE!!! specially tanahlot in the morning....the power of those waves hitting! BOOOM!

none i guess, except for the seafood and the jimbaran beach.. which is actually nothing much unless you managed to catch the sunset.. but once you touched down.. checked in.. you can have more time to plan for the rest of the trip. check out the locals, take a walk outside the hotels, im sure you'll find something else to do and hotels in Bali are usually nice with a very authentic traditional Balinese feel. take in the culture and experience

QUOTE(kaizen18 @ Jun 3 2009, 12:50 PM)
i dont quite agree with Mr7077.. i've been to Bali last April.. & i drive there by myself.. no problem at all.. yes the road a bit small compare to Malaysia but still acceptable for me.. and also the signboard a bit small, so u need to be alert.. i dont even use my GPS there.. mostly rely on the info i've search in the net (so that u get the rough idea of Bali's area & road) & i asked local ppl for direction a lot.. they're very helpful..

as for the car rent.. if u read 1st post.. stimix already suggest where to rent a car.. i rent a car at Indotrans Astri.. located outside arrival hall (left hand side).. u should nego kaw-kaw.. i rent a suzuki jimny for 6.5 days.. & it only cost me Rp870.000 (roughly about RM347.13 for 6.5days or RM53.40/day).

since my friend & i was on the budget trip last time.. we think renting a car wud be the best way to move around Bali. but if u dont have the patient for waiting in a traffic especially in Kuta & u dont have a good navigation skill.. then its better for u to hire a driver as wht Mr7077 said.. for 1 day rental (8 hours actually) with driver can cost u about Rp300k - Rp350k depends on your negotiation skill..

u dont need international driving license to drive in Bali.. your Malaysia Driving License is valid anywhere within ASEAN country.. u just need your passport to rent a car.

a lil bit of my bali experience --> http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry25643238
*
actually i've been there twice, and on my second trip, I rented driver but while in kuta... area I rented scooters and it was fun... can get around kuta fast and easy.
My question is, while you drove around kuta, assuming that you stay in kuta.. where do you park? kuta area, hotels and shopping spots are notorious for jams. While I was there with scooters, its also hard to find place to park the bike...

Going to Bali soon for 5D4N.

Now the issue running on my mind whether to stay at Kuta for all the days or spend 2D1N in Ubud?

Is it worth to move all luggages to Ubud, and enjoy a night or 2 nights there?
*
ubud is recommended, the spa's there are more authentic and its really more cultural with almost 0 night life.
And NO you dont have to lug all your luggage there... you could leave it in Kuta... i think the hotel would let you leave it there. Just bring your essential stuff.. also, if you make ubud as your base, you could go to those mountain spots like bedugul and kintamani more faster to access.. monkey forest is just around the corner. smile.gif

Hi guys,

Just a reminder to all,

PLEASE DON'T GO TO JIMBARAN IN BALI AT ALL COST... they will slaughtered you for the meals you have there.

Goddamn, 500gm lobster costs RM200, 500mg fish costs RM90, 500mg prawns costs RM120, 500mg mussels costs RM130 equilvalent... and this is only for 2 persons. If you have 3 persons, they will ask kao you to order 2 sets.

and that fella say this meal got free vege, fresh fruits and cold drinks.. god shit la. So, we got 4 persons and we order 2 sets and altogether costs us about RM740 inclusive of PPN (tax) of 15%.

***** stupid driver bought us there. I think the driver oso got commision about 20% of the cost of the meals.

Who want the name of this restaurant can PM me or I will reply it in this thread.
*
ive said it before, jimbaran seafood is.. nothin.. taste extremely bland.. you could get other foods around kuta which taste 100% better... even the satay hawker/stall in the middle of denpasar taste better.. dont believe? ask the driver to drop u in jimbaran and you take a stroll see what the others are eating.. im sure you'll agree that the kind of seafood they prepare looks extremely bland, just like any ordinary ikan bakar.. thats all.. the only thing nice about jimbaran is the sunset view/feel.

my impression on jimbaran is just the nice experience of dining by the beach..

going next year february  rclxms.gif
*
that is true and its still is true that dinning in jimbaran is a great experience but only if you dine in the right time, and right condition, as in the right time for sunset, the skies are clear.. etc etc...

Oh, i suppose jimbaran is always gonna be a must for the first timer to bali. And me, I'm just thinking out loud with my stomach, and my stomach says.. food's just not worth it. laugh.gif

will be having a 4d3n trip in sept. thinking of staying in 2 different hotels, 1 beach front and another 1 maybe in land. may i know is it recommended to change hotel for a 4d3n trip?
*
4d3n? not really recommended... very tight schedule.. the only time you have is.. late after tours(night) which I dont think you'd wanna spend to move hotel..... unless you could squeeze eveything in.. then I salute you.
But here's an idea, go stay in ubub(land) for the first or 2nd night, you'll be nearer to bedugul, kintamani.. then.. move down to kuta(beach) for the last 2 days... as the airport is nearer as to kuta.

thanks bro. for 1st timer on 4d3n trip, which are the recommeded places to visit as per your proposed schedule?

thinking self-drive after reading all the comments here but how's the traffic in bali? similar to langkawi?
*
recomended places? read up on what others have went before.. kintamani, bedugul, tanah lot, uluwatu, ubud, besakih...

self driving? yes if you have more time. but if it's you first time, then no.. traffic is like.. horrible. very bad compared to lkawi.

Hai...going to Bali this August. Will stay atHard Rock Hotel,Kuta. Wanna ask any recommendation of Bali Spa near this area? Just me n gf. Package price if possible.
TQ

spa's, go to ubud. Its more authentic.. there are a lot of those massage parlor all around the area in kuta and near HRH, don't make the mistake of going to there and taking the massage and thinking that it's cheap and will do. As they actually offer massage. that's all, for spa's you have to remember that you need the full massage/bath/etc etc... the place will need to feel relaxing as well... that way, you'll get a more authenthic balinese spa experience. biggrin.gif

Ubud...sure. I saw its just 10km from Kuta.
Ani advise for the price range? Afraid being "slash" with pricey treatment.Ya..I need spa, not only body massage.
*

if im not wrong i read somewhere here.. they say full 3 hour spa was about 150k - 300k depending on what kind of quality and enviroment. My advice, go ubud, look around, see the one you like... with the right conditions/enviroment/"feel".. take it, IF it's within your budget.. I mean, it's not everyday you go to bali to do SPA. At least by then, if you have splurge/pamper yourself with a good spa.. you'll have a good benchmark to go against. thumbup.gif

for those who rent cars/bikes in bali..need to give deposit?
*
cars i think they do.. but here's my experience with scooters.. they "recommend" you buy some shitty unknown insurance.. just in case you run into an accident with thier bike.. that insurance will make you pay half of the damage in case you do run into an accident.
the rental for the bike was... 40k per day.... and they ask for the insuarance 30k.. if i remember correctly.
Its up to you if you want to buy the insurance thing... as I doubt its genuine.. and that you're really "insured" with it.

I am now in Bali.. Just arrive yesterday at 11pm.. No bus, and I took a taxi driver to Legian.. At Champlong Mas.. The driver charge me 60k IDR..

I'm a bit unfortunate, coz now is peak season in Indo.. Cuti sekolah..

I rent a motorbile for 40k IDR per day.. The normal rate is 30k but because of peak season, I was charged 40k.. That's before the person realize I'm Malaysian (I tried my best to speak Indonesian with him, he thought I'm local tongue.gif )

I'll be here until 30 June.. My budget is just 1M ID.. (excluding airplane)..

Any advice where to go with my very little budget?.. tongue.gif I won't do any shopping cry.gif

p/s: I'm thinking to sleep at the beach if necessary biggrin.gif
*

anyone stayed in Wina Holiday Villa in Bali? biggrin.gif how's the place, mind sharing?

i posted a review in tripadvisor, went earlier this year.... stay away if you can. The hotel itself is quite nice, but the rooms are terrible. Bottom line is, its not WORTH the money you pay to stay there.. defintely not a 4STAR hotel. IMHO, my 6days there were spoilt by the hotel stay.

omg, sorry to hear that sad.gif

a bit regret after hearing your story, coz i've already booked that hotel next year Apr 1 until Apr 4 sad.gif

maybe i have to lower my expectation a bit, and prepare what to shoot kaw-kaw to the hotel manager if the same thing happened to us later tongue.gif
*
there are 2 blocks of hotel buiding there.. one is the old one(the one we stayed) and the newer one.. i think the newer one is better.. but dont get the ground floor there also, cuz, it flooded when it rained.. heavily.
We went on the rainy season, came back on our trip to find our room flooded. Horror!! shakehead.gif

1 thing u can try is to send an email to the hotel, inform them about your booking, and ask them to reserve a better room for you now. i've recently communicated with a few hotels in bali and so far their responses are quite friendly and helpful.
*
this is absolutely true, but in wina's case, please dont, as thats what i did.. with all the mumbo jumbo BS about honeymoon and etc... they really gave us a honeymoon room, but those rooms are located at the old block.. and they are really in dispair.. that's probably why we had such a bad experience there.. in our 6 days stay there we tried in vain to ask for the regular room but it was not to be..

must be really disappointing for u  sad.gif

i wonder if i send them email saying: "can i stay in new block, but not ground floor?" haha, what would be their reply laugh.gif
*
well, whatever it is, since youve already booked, cross your fingers, and hope they get you a good room lo.. what to do?

Poppies I and II is within walking distance(long walk).. lots of people recommend Made's Warung, you need to know that from WINA, you could go either north or south for both of them, most will go to the one near matahari(south), try instead to go to the one in legian(north), I hear that is the newer Made. Also, if you are in Poppies I, do try Bamboo Corner, or Gong Corner(Bamboo Corner II) food, theyr'e both cheap and affordable. Oh I forgot, the juice in Made's IS REALLY THAT GOOD!

its more like.. everytime you go for vacation, you expect the foods to be expensive.. than MY, but turns out, eating there is actually quite cheap and resonable. Not to mention that it's suprising that the taste is somewhat the same and in some case, slightly better than our typical malaysian food. my 2 sen. hmm.gif
