Not sure if mods allow this in FnF. But it's still related to cars.
Ok so we know brands come from different countries and the most 'accurate' pronunciation depends on the origin of the respective brand.
So Perodua is Malaysian and thus Purr-Row-Do-A or Purr-Row-Do-Ah.
Honda is Japanese so Hawn-Dar. Toyota is Tow-Your-Ta.
Bentley is Bent-Lee and Aston Martin is Ass-Turn Marr-Tin.
Ok so english, japanese are east peasy.

But the Frenchies, is it Peugeot is Purr-Joe of Pew-Joe?
I know Carrefour is Car-foo and not Care-Four.
I get slight irritation when people (especially employees) pronounce them wrongly.
Same goes for Burger King's Whopper which should be Warp-Purr and not Whoop-Purr.

Italian Alfa Romeo is Alpha-Row-May-Yo and rather than Alpha-Row-Me-Oh.

Now the Germans, Audi is Auw-Dee. No problem with that as most of us pronounce it like that anyway.
But Volkswagen is Folks-Wah-Gurn when generally, many of us either say Volks-Wagon or just Vee-Double-You.
Actually, i'm still pronouncing it the 'wrong' way i.e. Volks-Wagon. The English pronounce it that way IINM.
I've no problems with other brands' names but somehow i feel uncomfortable pronouncing Folks-Wah-Gurn.

Do you think you'll sound like a fag if you blurt out Folks-Wah-Gurn ??
You know, speaking of Malaysian context, people will hantam and say you're trying to be a foreign snob.

Contribution of other brands' pronunciation are welcomed. Hyundai?

Any more questions ?

Yes actually, unanswered question. When a Msian conversing/talking in English or Malay or Mandarin/Hokkien/Cantonese/whatever or Tamil/Urdu (not in deutch lah put it simply) and then suddenly pronounce 'Volkswagen' the german-way 'folks-wah-gern', do you think he'll sound like a fag? Bcoz I don't hear people say it in normal day-to-day conversation.

that cannot be help, e.g. try ask mat salleh to speak malay, they can never get it right mostly, and some how mother tongue affected their intonation. So they too sound like fag. SO if we try too hard, you can imagine, it can by the same token really sound like a fag too.

Ok then. So I'll stick with volks-where-gern or simply vee-double-you. Or maybe @kadajawi will disagree. But he's not here. Yet.

Rilek la bro. No one is perfect in phonetic speech since we're not native speaker of the brand. To-Mae-Toes, To-Mah-Toes why does it matter?
*
That's different coz that's a matter of accent, english vs. american. But pronouncing Ayamas as Err-Yeow-Mah maybe unacceptable, even for a non-native.
But that's not the point. I'm asking if it is okay to pronounce it right. Not.. is it okay to pronounce it wrong?
In volkswagen case, pronouncing folks-varr-gurn is faggot but Ow-Dee is not? Isn't it unfair?

I'm a bit irritated that ts put a warp in the whopper...

I was trying to emphasise like how americans exaggerate the 'a' 'uh' sound in an 'o'. Like when wonder becomes one-der instead of won-der. So yeah it ryhmes with 'wonder'. Maybe I should've spelt whupper?

Frankly speaking, because i was bored to death. Nothing was happening in FnF.
I can't busybody in car club threads as i don't qualify anywhere.
General board got "car versus" thread but not exciting as before.
Need more hardcores/fanboys to make it more lively.

Why is it not right? Who the hell people call other people fag for pronouncing it wrongly? Do you call American, British & the rest of the world except Korean for pronouncing Hyundai wrongly fags?

Why does it matter at all?
*
Aiyo you miss the point again. doh.gif
The problem here is not about calling people fag because they pronounce it wrongly.
The problem here is calling people fag or snobs because they pronounce it rightly.

Scenario 1
Me: Hey i'm thinking of getting a folks-varr-gurn.
Friend: Folks-WTF!!!! You think you german ah?? Faggot!!

Clear now?

so a nonnative pronounced it correctly is a fag now? stay away from these frens
*
Among friends, i'll just take it lightly, laugh it off.
But when strangers or employees of that particular company?
More so when they're so convinced they try to 'correct' you
True story

Countergirl: May i take your order sir?
Me: Yes, i'll have a whop-per set please
Countergirl: *pause then makes a disapproving face* blink.gif shakehead.gif You mean you want whooo-per
Me: Oookay

Once and for all, correct pronounciation for "Prius" pls sleep.gif
I heard UK ppl call it Pry-us
My cousin who works in UMWT calls it Pree-us
Which one?
*
Actually the english (and french) are among the most stubborn/arrogant of all when it comes to language to the point that they'd just pronounce any foreign word however they like it regardless right or wrong. As you put it, they just don't give a vuck

Anyway, in this case, i pronounce it as Pree-us. Like your cousin.

Chevrolet...u dont pronounce the 't'. It's share- vo- lay.

The 'r' is silent in 'vro' ?
When shortened to Chevy, is it still Shavvy or does it become Chavvy?
