Didn't obviously see any topics on Q10.

Wondering which would you choose, given use mainly for e-mails & messaging. Q10 or Z10?

I personally haven't tried Z10 screen keyboard yet. Concern on smoothness of it. Not concern on screen size so much as will likely have an Android with large screen as second phone to play games etc.

Is Q10 for those who always use bb physical keyboard there will be no better keyboard out there for emails and messaging so q10 will be their next upgrade.

Z10. After testing the Z10 keyboard I can type even faster than the physical keyboard (I was using 9700/9790 before).

The extra screen size is very good for web browsing.

It appears the Z10 would be the more popular phone, just by looking at the activeness of the thread.

Having said that, I myself too am quite keen in getting the Q10. Miss using phone with keypad.

I don't see any advantage with larger capacity battery compare with Z10 as it drain out 60% for 10 hrs for 1st day used. Will compare again after a few charges

For heat , i don't really care of it. So cant comment here hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif

I like the QWERTY Keypad but personally dont like OLED Screen Color compare to Z10 which color look ugly

Hope Blackberry will come up an update which can change the screen mode to Natural Color like what Samsung did for their phone

Hi guys, i would like to consider to buy Q10 on contract with Maxis. BBMore 88 with 1GB data is $1488 for 24 months.
BBMore 148 with 5GB data is $1178 for 24 months.
Maxis One Club has a bit more discount.

You guys think 1GB data is sufficient for emails, bbm, whatsapp, casual surfing ? Or should i have 5GB where i can use as mobile hotspot too for LTE at home.

Right now i am in Value Plus 150, my call charges only about $100. BIS is 250mb $40.

What do you guys think ?

Thanks for the info.

Anyway read throughout on the mobile hotspot on BB10 platform, some users reported slower speed in tethered devices(i.e. laptop or pads) but Q10 tested with faster speed.

Hopefully some Q10 users can share some insights here, if you understand what i am trying to state. smile.gif

Have you guys tried changing port numbers on incoming server?

Im using Z10 and used to have issue of not being able to send emails when im on wifi. On telco network, no problem. So i changed port numbers on my outgoing mail and it was sorted icon_idea.gif

My issue is different. Im using gmail with 2-step verification. After sometime, it will automatically disconnect me from the gmail server which force me to generate the application specific password over and over again. There is no notif at all when it is not connected to the gmail server, i will get to know it only if i go to accounts and it will show "Not Connected". I can receive my emails through both 3G and wifi.

Any Q10 users have a problem where emails won't get downloaded if you're connected on wifi? Email will only come in if i'm on cellular data. Not a big issue, but an issue nonetheless.
*
Looking closer at the problem, it only occurs when I leave my wifi coverage area such as my home and re-enters it. No notifications to tell me as well and the only way to know is to check in the settings like ego3nity did.

@fabiu I'm not particularly familiar with port numbers. As far as I know, the numbers are all correct. How to know what number to change it to?

I supposed your IT guy would be familiar else google it?

When i had my issue, all my numbers were correct too. Or so i thought. Then i cross checked with my colleagues, and saw this one port number which i tried and it solved my problem!

Brightpoint is one of the official distributor besides Brightstar.

I got my unit from Celcom which is also Brightpoint unit.

Loaded up .1880 on my Q10!

Had a little scare earlier as the separate radio files took a while to boot. For a moment there i thought i might've bricked my brand new phone! All's well now or so it seems...

Of course! First thing, you can toggle in the settings if you want your phone to be on 4G or not. Second, even if your settings is on 4G but there's no coverage, the radio in your phone will scan for other signals e.g. 3G or EDGE.

Why downgrade when you can have .1880?

Ok. Battery life - been running for 24 hours now, and i'm still left with 26%. Moderate use as it's been a relatively quiet work day. However, i forgot to switch off my 4G, so, i'm really impressed with this latest leak. I think i can even go longer if i were to switch off 4G thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Yes. However, it is advisable to swich whenever you don't need it to conserve battery life, as the radios would work hard to scan for the strongest signal.

Haha. Comin from a 9700 and 9900, the Q10's familiar territory. Regardless how good the Z10 keyboard is, there will always be a couple of misfires every now and then. If we share a common background, i'm sure you'd agree with me there's nothin comparable to the tactile feedback on a physical keyboard. Also, since now i can't 'flick' words anymore, the Q10 has got a row of predictive words which i can just tap on. Now the screen; LCD vs AMOLED. Endless debates on the two but it all really boils down to personal taste. I personally find the colours on the Q10 is a bit more vibrant but at the same time warmer when compared to the Z10. Since the screen on the Q is a bit more reflective, thus it's a bit harder to see under sunlight. Battery life is awesome! I would actually attribute it to the leaked OS that i installed, not so much on the fact that the Q's battery has got 350 mAh more juice. Construction of the Q seems to be more premium compared to the Z and it does feel sturdier and nicer in the palm(s).

My personal take is, the Q would be a great working tool to have, especially if you do a lot of typing - emails, text, editing documents yada yada... With that, i think i made the right choice takin the plunge (and lose a few hundred ringgit in the process rclxub.gif ) The only thing that i really missed is the Z's screen size. If i have a choice (and money), i'd like to have a Q for work and a Z for leisure. Because BB10 is really that good tongue.gif

Go for a test drive at Telcos to check it out.

Well elaborate , thanks. You just made me tempted to get one too eh. Oh, do you find there it is inconvenience without the track pad? For example , last time with track pad I can select and copy without missing a single alphabet, don't you find it's difficult in selecting words by touching on such small screen?

Not at all if you're quite well versed with the Z10 or rather BB OS10 gestures. And if you're already on 10.1, you'd notice that there's somethin like a magnifying glass with blue outline (dunno if there's an official term for it not) where you can move it around to edit or select. Easier than the trackpad! thumbup.gif

Nope. We can use any leaks meant for STL-2, -3 & -4. Just flash Q10 radio file after downloading the leak, and it's good to go.

For .2354, someone did a hybrid autoloader (OS .2354 + .2343 Q10 radio file), so you don't need to flash the radio file after that.

Maybe what he meant was not compatible with STL-1. And, if there's anything not compatible is only the radio files as the Z and the Q radio is different. So, if the leak is meant for STL, all you need to do is download the file, then flash the Q's radio file. Otherwise, there will be a good Samaritan who would include the Q's radio file into a 'hybrid' leak OS thumbup.gif Anyways, the guinea pig here has tested and approved that leaks for STL-2,3,4 can be used for Q10 SQN-3. Haha rclxm9.gif

btw fablu, do you install the radio or the os file first ?
os file .2354
radio file .2355

update: its quite strange, i installed the .2354 and the radio itself is .2355 without me installing the radio file.

You're supposed to install the OS first, and then a "mirror image" would appear on your screen - incompatible radio file. Then, you're supposed to double click the radio file that you downloaded. Then do a battery pull to flash the file.

Anyways, it looks like you've installed successfully, with a newer radio file!

Another leak .4285 is scheduled this Friday and it will be a FULL OS for Q10! Haha..

Just updated my q10 to .4285 so far i noticed if connect wifi there is no more "attempt 1 of 3" ; network mode back to ori (4G/3G/2G)

the previous build has a good battery life though (.2354) better than (.2342)

hope this build .4285 is give good performance as well.

update: after installed the device does not want to connect to the PC with error saying finish the setup on phone then connect back, restart the phone and still no luck ; so i did a battery pull and it solved.

if you restore your device, your network settings will go back to UMTS/LTE/HSPA

I downloaded .4285 too and encountered same error as yours too. You should've posted this in the morning so i don't need to reload the OS again! rclxub.gif Luckily after reloading, everything ok biggrin.gif

No wonder my network still showing 4GLTE. If you didn't restore, then how and where you back up your contacts?

i think this build has worse battery life, with .2354 i unplug at 00:00 and till 20:00 i would still have 40% with this build .4285 i unplug at 00:00 and now 9:41 it left 59%

and i could see the signal bar keep decrease and increase from 2 bar to 5 bar and ongoing..

Steady bro... don't forget your first 12-24 hours is used to re-populate your contacts, and your apps.

I unplugged at 0840, now 1142 and I still have 88%! Looking good! I was using it quite heavily between 1000 to 1100 thumbup.gif

Finally got my Q10 after maxis took their own sweet time.
Big difference in feeling vs using 9780 for the last 2 years. Will take some time to adjust..

Yesterday was my 1st full day with the device. Had to charge twice through out the day. Think as fablu mentioned, 1st 24 hours is busy repopulating the data, it was a big juice drinker. Today so far so good.

I just had a look on both Q10 and Z10, at one of the Blackberry shops.

If i had to choose only one of them, i'll go for the Z10.

Z10 has the modern look and still has the same function as Q10.
Just lack the physical touch of the QWERTY keyboard.

Plus, I want to look good with a comtemporary looking phone. smile.gif

Yeah, in fact for the new BB10 devices, BIS/BES is no longer required, a normal data plan will do.

Why does my Maxis Account Manager says have to subscribe to BES? I asked and they say must

Maybe they just bundled the phone with the BES Plan only to enjoy the device promo price?

Didn't obviously see any topics on Q10.

Wondering which would you choose, given use mainly for e-mails & messaging. Q10 or Z10?

I personally haven't tried Z10 screen keyboard yet. Concern on smoothness of it. Not concern on screen size so much as will likely have an Android with large screen as second phone to play games etc.

would take both. but then i still got my old bold 3 working perfectly fine. so z10 is the only choice

Think for touchscreen, BB still has a long way to catch up with the other competition.
Physical Keyboard, think BB is still undeniably the champion... but Q10 still lacking a lot of basic native apps...

Whats more frustrating is that an app is available for Z10 but not on Q10 cry.gif

I have plans for a Q10 also. I'm using S3 for the past year but I still miss the keyboard feeling. Unfortunately phones are not cheap these days. Maybe I got to settle for Q5.

Think there's a resolution issue. Bigger screeens and different ratios (q10 is 1:1, quite odd these days) is jus the better way for interfaacing these days.

Actually in the past they're pixel count fixed.

Now its all width and length only, so they only have to support 2 modes. biggrin.gif
