After i shiok sendiri wanna buy SSD already, then I check my y510p laptop no NGFF msata2 port deeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww... any way to add it in? anyone done it before?

i dont think you can easily add in. you probably can find the connector and solder it to the board, after that most probably you will need to hack the bios as well.

not saying it is impossible but it might be easier if you just buy 2.5" ssd and add in caddy for more storage replacing your optical drive.

Just bought a Lenovo Y40-80 a month ago, it's a great laptop. Some how recently I noticed when I'm playing Dota 2, FPS will go down to around 14-18 FPS and goes back up to 50-60 FPS after a minute. Some times it'll just stuck at 15 FPS until I restart my game (which occurs again after 10 minutes). Anyone facing similar issues?

check your temperature. I'm afraid it is throttling. If it is temperature issue, RMA under warranty. I'm gonna guess the thermal paste need replacement.

hi all,

I just bought a Z40 a month ago and I can't find a thread for it. Hence, I'm asking here.

Specs is i5 gen4, upgraded to 12GB ram. Running windows 8.1. I'm feeling some lag when opening basic programs like Word, Chrome and others. I've disable almost all the default Lenovo programs on startup, uninstalled all useless programs, and  stopped all the McAfee protections.

It just doesn't feel right as my 3 years old Asus running win7 seems to run smoother than this. How can I solve this problem? Do you guys need more info?

Speed is limited to save power.
To make sure it's not hardware, the only real way to solve it is to fresh install windows(with windows 7 even). though I woulnt understand why Win8 is slower in loading M$2013 and browsers.
probably background things hogging things up

I'm going to bet on the HDD. 5400RPM mechanical HDD does bottlenecked pretty easily on Windows 8.1 somehow. Even my Lenovo Y580 slowed down due to 100% HDD usage. I would recommend to disable indexing service, slower search but faster overall operation.

Y50 user here. Just encountered an issue with my lappy. Anyone experienced these errors during start-up?

PXE-E61: Media Test Failure
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM

I can only enter Bios and change the priority of the boot-up but no luck so far.... Anyone can help?
*
If your hdd is detected in the BIOS, probably the content is already messed up. Probably need to re-build the hdd. Try one key recovery?

I once asked them if they can help me repaste my laptop, they said they can't help. so, i wont recommend them.

sure they might not know how to do it but if they can't help me send it to the service center, what's the point. they are specialised in sales rather than service.

Not, its above a shoplot.

@mrl i bring my own thermal paste and the help me repaste as well there.
*
I was talking about the one in Bukit Jambul as pointed. I'm not sure about the one above a shoplot.

QUOTE(ckeong89 @ May 30 2015, 05:41 PM)
hmm talking about the thermal paste, when do we need to do that? how frequent?
*
I do it after 1 year of ownership. However, I've been having high temp gaming session in US winter about 3 - 4 months after ownership. I'm not sure how better is the newer models, but I would recommend to monitor your temperature around that period.

After repasting, I brought down at least 10'C temperature of CPU and GPU.

will service center apply the thermal paste for us if carry-in?

hi, if i upgrade my hdd to sdd in my lenovo laptop, will the warranty be void?

If you're worried about warranty maybe you want to ask them to do it for you.

Normally it won't affect your warranty even if you do it yourself

Hi, Lenovo Y400 user here,

i just change my HDD to SSD, cloned it with EaseUS, now going to reformat it but the Lenovo Onekey recovery shows error, i think it might be the cloning problem that messed the partition. So i decide to search for my windows licence key and use a Windows 8 CD (not from Lenovo) to install it.. but unfortunately again, it's shows cant use a Retail Product Key...

ok fine... i'll just install with a new Windows key instead, since i got 1 extra... again... it somehow detect the key from the firmware and show invalid key instead...

Now i have no way to reformat my laptop.. called to Lenovo and they advise to drop by their service center @Globalts Technology...

Is there any other way???
*
Original HDD content already gone? then your only chance is to go to Lenovo to rebuild OKR.

Not so sure, but you can actually get the upgrade via ISO if you really want it

QUOTE(totallagness @ May 16 2016, 11:50 PM)
Still using the Y580 and my temperature when gaming hits up to 94C, anyone getting the same problems?

Also, just did a fresh install to Windows 10 which I had problems when using the slideshow function for my wallpaper, the comp freezes up for a second every time it changes and it was proving a problem since I change mine every 10 seconds. Reverted back to 8.1 and used the latest Nvidia updates (365.19) but it seems to make my games hang after 20 minutes or so. Just did a DDU and installed back 362.00 to see if it still hangs or freezes.

Anyone know of a place to replace thermal paste even though the case of the laptop is starting to fall apart? Also any good thermal paste recommendations?
*
94C is still cool though, I used to hit 100C and more with BF3 tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Sending to Lenovo is always the best options... But last time I DIY I use Arctic Cooling MX4 and temperature improves a lot...

As for the Win10 slide wallpaper, I don't know... Did you check your CPU usage and see if it spikes at those times???

QUOTE(totallagness @ May 24 2016, 12:27 AM)
Nope, CPU usage doesn't spike. It's just the GPU switching from Intel to Nvidia to change the wallpaper then back to Intel after wallpaper was changed.

I formatted the laptop once more and installed 362.00 for my Nvidia drivers. The freezes and less now but they still happen once in a while.

Also wow, 100C? Wouldn't that start melting your hardware?

EDITS: Also has anyone found a way to control the fans in the Y580? I have an unflashed bios though doh.gif
*
aahhhh... I usually just make the system to always use Nvidia GPU because I have an issues where the GPU always go AWOL when I need it because it went sleeping and never get to wakes up... probably why I didn't have much issues.... but normally I don't let the system auto manage which GPU it should use for me because I always face problems when somebody else auto manage for me....

I would definitely recommend you to assign which application specifically to use the nVidia GPU and default everything to Intel's iGPU since you use that, that way you can have less headache in the long run but definitely big headache setting that up. Totally understandable if you don't want to do that (thus the reason why I just defaulted to always use nvidia gpu)

100C doesn't melt you hardware yet and as I recall correctly, it is right below temperature setpoint for throttling... laugh.gif laugh.gif

as for controlling the fan, you'll need customized BIOS IINM... Or maybe you can try SpeedFan????? But still, if the BIOS doesn't provide the hooks, you can't do anything....

Hi, any users of Y480 or Y580 encounter wifi issue after upgraded to windows 10?
The network adapter seem working fine but however the wifi is unable to turn on after the upgrade, any suggestions on how to resolve this?
*
I've had zero issues on my Y580 with Win10. In fact, a lot better compared to Win8.1... Try to get latest wifi driver from Lenovo or from the chip provider (it's either Intel or Broadcom IINM)
