I am thinking of buying one. Can I ask a few questions about Surface RT?

- does it have free adobe app so that I can open pdf files and do the other things that I normally can in my pc with adobe reader?

- is it printable to a HP deskjet advantage 2060 printer? Please check for me if this model is in the apps.

- does it come with free Angry Bird seasons 1,2 & 3?

- does it come with free candy crush saga and temple run?

Thanks.

I think have angry birds star wars only

no app for candy crush and temple run

1. Underworld, thank you very much. Yes, I have checked the link you provided. HP Deskjet 2060 is listed. rclxms.gif

2. Angry bird star wars only? Alamak. I want free one ler... !

3. Candy crush never mind - I got stuck in level 23 and getting bored to play. Temple run? Hate being chased by gorillas. The only game I play well is angry bird.. especially angry bird seasons. I ahve finished season 1, 2 and 3. Now I am trying to get 3 stars for every level. I have got 3 stars for 2 of the 3 games in Season 3. cool2.gif

4. Victorian, it is preloaded with adobe reader? Oic... thanks. As for printer, I think we need to download the driver apps from microsoft store into the surface rt before we can print, is that not so?

richard912, thanks for sharing.

Btw, 2 more weeks to go to buy. hmm.gif

I try to ask MPP, since they're not in campus,
of course they know nothing..

Last resort,
I will go to HEP to ask  unsure.gif
but I will be back to campus on September, though..

I think this is done only on informal basis. I am not sure why. Perhaps maybe it is because Msia is not listed in the microsoft list of countries whereby this discounted price is available. Perhaps other reasons. I know through informal word of mouth only. In the uni I know, the offer is valid till end of Aug only. Not extended to Sept yet.

which ini? Contact through which department in university?
*
I don't think there is any formal arrangement between any suppliers with any univ. So I don't think there is any specific department that takes orders for you. Just maybe one of the staffs knows the supplier. There are 4 authorised surface suppliers in Msia. Check Microsoft msia's website. But some of them only sell at their shops. They don't approach universities/colleges.

if anyone knows the finance/HR department of that university then its easy... PO can be issued by HR but payment made by you personally...
*
Thanks Colin92 for posting the links and documents. Yes, the 4 listed are Msia's authorised dealers. In fact, most of them are in KL. I was told Harvey Norman does not visit schools/uni. But SNS make it a point to visit.. But only SNS is based in Ipoh but has offices in Perai and KL. The guy from Ipoh visit our institution and sell direct to students and staffs.
So, no need to go thru finance or HR dept. Usually uni prefer you deal direct with sellers. All the uni need to do is endorse that you are a student. Less work for them. Uni no need to issue PO. At least mine is that way.

I would love to try Surface. But, I haven't touch one yet. Not sure how is the user experience compare with iPad and Android tablet.

From what I understand is that Microsoft writes down over $900 millions on surface. So, I dont want to expect too much from it.

Anyone who owns both Surface and also iPad or Android table mind to share your experience by comparing them?
*
I udnerstand that the $900 mil write down is due to the huge discounts being offered during the promo period to schools, colleges and universities. It is such a big difference in terms of price, and mroeover I don't own any tablet nor a laptop now, that it is very irresistable for me. Moreover, I need it for the mobility and the compatibility with my desktop PC, to use ms office.

But I heard from the vendor, who explained those who buy this surface rt special offer for students, their units are uniquely coded to only them. If they sell it to others, and others use it, microsoft will know. I think they also want to prevent people from abusing this offer period to trade / make a business out of it. That is because the code embeded is still under the original buyer. In a way I find this good, because if it gets stolen, you can trace who is using it. Is that correct?

I really don't know, but I suppose selling one is okay. Not lar buy-sell, buy-sell like 3 or 4 units. They will think you are doing business.

then half price for the keyboard

built quality and battery life is quite satisfy
temperature is acceptable(as i heard ipad even more heaty)
screen is good
camera 1MP (720p i think)
sound is acceptable compared ,bcz my HP with beats audio is a very good sound system and loud too

OS is so so only,no more bluescreen problem, performance better than an Atom processor one i would say,i got hang for few times within a week

store got lots of apps within microsoft range one-youtube,fb,twitter all unofficial
and of course Microsoft fame of lots of craps and rubbish apps

yep, I only use it to do my normal ms office stuff, and i only play simple games as I mentioned before - so I don't need all those other fanciful features and softwares on my tablet. It is a good buy at that student price for me, with all the features that I need. I am sure the mcrosoft apps store will improve to add more apps in time. It is something in between my desktop PC and my smartphone. wink.gif The only thing I don't like which I heard of is you need to login using your hotmail email only. If no hotmail, then still must create one. That is I feel not right for microsoft to confine it only to hotmail.

I noted that there is only 1 usb port. Can you use a multi-port hub to increase the ports available? If not, how can we resolve the issue? If you are using portable wifi, wireless mouse and thumbdrive, it is already 3 ports. Is there a solution? hmm.gif

You can use hubs no problem. And btw, you don't have to log in with hotmail account. Can always use local user with reduced functionality.
*
1. Can use hubs, ah? The vendor told me cannot. Perhaps you mean special multi-port hubs meant only for surface rt?

2. I don't understand by your last sentence - what do you mean by "local user with reduced functionality"? you mean yahoo email also can?

Yes can use hubs. I actually never, ever trust salesppl, shopkeepers or vendors, unless I know them personally. I've tested with my logitech 4 port hub, connected my mechanical keyboard and logitech mouse to it and it works.

local user as in don't log in with any email account, just create a user, just as you would any regular desktop pc.
*
1. Ok. I trust you then on the using of multiport hub for surface RT. smile.gif

2. Oic, can create user id first before login. But why reduced functionality compare to using hotmail?

Certain preloaded apps and features require a Microsoft related email account to work. Like the people app and skydrive, among others. Also I think the encryption data or something like that is also linked to the email address.

You can always add in your Gmail or yahoo account email later into the mail app. Nothing will stop you. Haha. I have my Gmail account in my mail app and the Google search app. Lol
*
So, at the end of the day, it is necessary to have a microsoft related email after all, in order to use all the features, in particularly skydrive. I guess not a big issue to have a hotmail. But maybe for the initial login to surface rt, I can create a login user id.

Thanks. You have been very helpful.

My microsoft store is divided into different categories. How do I find the apps you mentioned like metro commander, social nv, vide, pressplay, ... under which category? So difficult to find. Do I need to go to each category to search, ah? Troublesome. How to search for all categories?

Also I find that the microsoft store ahs so many similar names for the same thing - which one to choose? For example, you got so many facebook. And so many Youtube apps.

Use the search function (?)

Facebook I just use the browser. For youtube you can check out metrotube.
*
You don't understand what I was saying. The search function is in each category. You got sports, you got games, utilities, tools, news, music, etc so many categories. So, that means I need to search in many separate categories because I don't know which category is metro cammander in, for example. You get what I mean?

I want to activate my LINE apps in Surface RT, but it asked me to choose one of these - I am not sure to choose which one. Is it
- Windows
- Windows 8
- Windows Arm?

Please advice.
