This prolly is a dumb question, but I just would like to clarify:
1. Can I use Surface Pro for work purposes, e.g. office?
2. This is running on Windows 8.1 - does that work based on apps from the Windows Store? Or I can download any executable files and install them on Surface Pro? My last Windows experience was Windows XP.
3. Basically, I am looking at Surface Pro for my work purposes as I can only use Windows where my personal laptop is on Mac OS. So this is my re-entry back into Windows world. The only thing I am going to use for work are just the Office suits, including Outlook, Words, Excel, etc; and probably installing some application for work related, e.g. VPN, Softphone, etc.
*
1. Yes.
2. Yes, it works like any other laptop just in a smaller form factor and more features.
3. Yes, it works. Software like Photoshop and Lightroom works as well. Surface Pro is no different than a desktop running Win 8.1.

can we install softwares for Win7 in Win8? or need to redownload win8 specific software?
*
As long as there is no stated incompatibility when installing, Win7 software should work fine on Win8/8.1.

For instance, I need to monitor stock market from a tablet, so would like to get a table which I can monitor stock market (via web browser with Java plugin).

Have you tried using the desktop version of IE? The metro version doesn't support Java but the desktop IE does.
*
As far as I'm concerned, the M2U stock page requires the running of a certain ActiveX script which the RT is incapable of running. My Surface Pro has no problem viewing and using the M2U stock page after adjusting the IE compability mode to IE7 or older.

surface pro 1 with all latest firmware and service pack, no issue at office and home with wifi , yet
*
I just refresh mine, installed 8.1 and everything. The WiFi still giving me intermittent limited connectivity issue. What surprised me is that it worked after I replugged the charger after trying many other software/driver fix doh.gif doh.gif

update: it wasn't the fact that I replug the charger, its the USB that's causing the problem. The instant I plug my flash drive onto it the WiFi stops working and the instant I remove it the WiFi worked

4hrs is really short period.. hmm.. the power cover support Pro version or only only Pro 2?
*
Both Pro 1 and Pro 2, no support for RT1 though.

Pro 2 battery life extends by 2 hours.

Touch Cover 1 is 3mm thick.
Touch Cover 2 is 2.5mm thick.
Type Cover 1 is 5.8mm thick.
Type Cover 2 is 5mm thickl.
Power Cover is 9mm thick.

Gratz, welcome to the club! biggrin.gif
Wow ms wireless mouse really RM9 only?
I'm looking for a bluetooth mouse.. any cheap ones?
Type > Touch keyboard anyway tongue.gif
I'm not sure yet whether I'll buy Power Cover, might be way too expensive.
Hoping to land a used Type Cover or Type Cover 2
*
Updated Cover thickness in my previous post.

I prefer Touch Cover because its thinner. Its easier to clean as well. I understand that Type Cover is much better to type on but I just want my Surface as thin as possible.

Judging by the thickness I have listed above, if its a Power Touch Cover, it'd be only 6.5mm thick instead of 9mm.
