Yes, especially when you want bigger aperture which means you need to go above 1/250 or 1/320. Unless of course you want to fit an ND or something instead.

Could it be lens to lens variance? As in the best of non VC was compared against the lousiest among the VC?

I would go for 24-70, one leg kicking lens! 70-300 is pretty much handicapped indoor due to small aperture.

Waiting for the next gen, I like the range

Glass quality cannot match the 24-70 lah...

I'm just a newbie >_< that Super GT was my first and only time shooting in SIC track. We have different style of shooting hehe, I need to learn from you!

You can see my settings on the EXIF on Flickr Rule of thumb, use Shutter priority and set speed according to panning effect needed.

Lower shutter - MORE panning effect (blur background), LESS sharp area of subject (depending on movement), LESS chance of nailing the shot
Higher shutter - LESS panning effect, MORE sharp area of subject, MORE chance of nailing the shot

OF COURSE, shutter don't go up to like 1/1000s or so... that will just end up as a PARKING shot... Imagine, NISMO GT-R stopping in the middle of the track? Rosak ah?

3) Use Shutter priority

TTA not sure, Super GT, Moto GP etc cannot bring to grandstand... they want earn money mah...

Dangerous... TTA are amatures leh LOL.

If you do this at major event such as Super GT, you're going to get blacklisted immediately!

Fast lens, and long lens depending which corner you are at.

Calvin, my shots are cropped which means you need something like 200~600mm inside the track if don't want to crop. This year I planning bring both D700 and D800 for track hehehe.

The infamous left AF issue! But if you buy and get it done at India, should not be a problem.

Which is why I got the D800 instead, and the E introduces more moire and its a pain for video!

D7100 has taken that spot, Nikon strategy seems to be leaving the D4 for the professionals instead.

Unlikely in my opinion, Nikon doesn't want another body to compete against the D4 unlike previous line up people would opt for 8fps D700/D300 instead of D3/D3s due to price. Profit!

Maybe its free for all now, anyone could walk into the track?

24-85 VR when you have 35-70 f/2.8? 35mm f/2D when you have 50mm f/1.4D?

Disclaimer, I don't have any experience with any of the lens except a short one with 50mm f/1.4D. Judgement only based on focal length and aperture.

For what purpose?

If travel... nowadays I'm getting so lazy I'm planning to buy a mirrorless for traveling Especially after my Bangkok earlier this year, carrying 6kg+ walking around Bangkok. And rarely bring the camera out because too tired ._. I bet if I was using mirrorless I would be shooting around like crazy.

RX1 , thought my budget not so geng. Am considering the NEX5 series instead, but crap wei the lens so expensive! The UWA and prime ._. Haih, Nikon why your mirrorless so lousy, use bigger sensor lei!
