Toby Alderweireld
- With Papa deal look stagnant at the moment..
- We may look into Toby Alderweireld which is the No.2 transfer target of senior CB we r looking at.
- He's Ajax & Belgium International
- A cheaper Option. A 8mil-12mil bid will trigger his released
- Will b happy if we sign him cox he's one of the Belgium Golden Generation...

Not a big loss. Had one standout season but his lack of pace makes him vulnerable in BR's team. Always gives he a heart attack to see him pulling and grabbing players in the box.

Duke @ It's like Jan Vertonghen. If Hyppia & Caraggher can b sucessful at Liverpool even lack of pace. I can't see y he can't. The main strength of a defender is not the Pace. It's how well he "Read" the game & "Position" himself upon dealing with different type of attacker. Pace sure is a factor but "Class" in others factors also play a part.

Farisq @ We somehow miss those talent by wind. Damn.

Normeck @ Not only City. But we r so. They say it's 4.3.3 but the way i look at our formation...it's like 4.2.3.1. One main striker flank by 3 flair players. What we did 2nd part of last season is Gerrard & Lucas stay on the middle circle while Henderson push up supporting the front 3. Which y he score so many goals with his runs in midfield. I always have faith with him doing so. But i worried with the talent that we r bringing in this season. He may not prosper as well as last 2nd half season. Anyway it's all a rotating game nowadays & i don't see Gerrard will start as many games as last season. We all know that sometimes...Gerrard need to b rested & refreshment up. We need cover for all departments. With Assaidi + Downing + Pacheco + Carroll & Suarez(might) leaving. I think we need to add at least 6/7 attacking player.

With..Players in the Bag..
- Aspas
- Luis Alberto
- Ilori

Attacking Player Yet 2 B Confirmed Acceptance Any Deal
- Henrikh Mkhitaryan - Our No.1 AM but r we willing to pay more than 15mil remained to b seen.
- Clement Grenier - Submitted a Bid. Looks likely we r working for this deal but Arsenal plan to snatch it under our nose. Damn.
- Christian Atsu - A ghana LW. Played for Porto. Submitted a Bid. Pending confirmation.

Actually i would like to get..Coz "Premier League Experience"
- James Milner @ Time's Up - City
- Callum McManaman @ Wigan Relagated - Being View By BR
- James McCarthy @ Wigan Relagated - Liverpool interested since KD era
- Charles N'Zogbia @ 10mil will trigger the sales
- Darren Bent (A Nice Back-Up CF) @ Villa plan to sell him instead Benteke. A Cheaper Option @ 10/12mil.

Cheers.

I agree. We are more 4-2-3-1 nowadays. Suarez/Sturridge as the main striker. The only team that uses clear 4-3-3 last season were Arsenal using 3 forwards (Podolski/Giroud/Walcott).

Anyway..keep the news coming. Chris always brings good news. smile.gif

You've neglected to take into consideration the fact that unlike Rafa and Houllier, BR tends to play a high defensive line. Important to note that our centrebacks usually take up wider positions with the defensive midfielder plugging the hole in the middle as both fullbacks move forward into the opposition half. This is why it's imperative our centrebacks have some pace. Carra ended the season well but if you remember, he struggled to adapt to this new system early in the season, making a number of errors e.g. being outpaced to loose balls, which led to him being benched. Skrtel likewise, struggled which eventually led to him being benched as well. It isn't coincidence. This is why I rate Martin Kelly so highly. He's strong in the air (something we need) and he's also really quick for a bloke his height. He will do well in the heart of defence under BR I feel.

Hyypia enjoyed his best form partnering Henchoz under Houllier, who liked playing very deep so much so that our wingers like Patrik Berger would adopt fullback positions whenever the opposition had the ball. He tended to play 11 men behind the ball.

Carra enjoyed his best form under Rafa who also played a deep defensive line, though not as deep as Houller. The centrebacks stayed close to the keeper as they would pass the ball about. Note that at one point, there were cheeky comments suggesting that Reina was our best playmaker. This stemmed from the fact that often, the centrebacks would eventually play the ball back to him to punt up the field.

Therefore my conclusion is that big lumbering defenders with no pace will not fare well in BR's system.

Look at Ilori who we are linked with :-

QUOTE
A tall and slender defender, whose gait has been compared with Raphael Varane at Real Madrid, it is Ilori’s speed that really marks him out as a prospect.

http://sabotagetimes.com/reportage/tiago-i...ool-watertight/
Another bloke we've been linked with is Toby Alderweireld :-

QUOTE
strengths: very high defensive skills, heading, determination, versatility, composure, pace, long shots

http://footballscout.webs.com/defenders.htm
Kyriakos Papadopoulos :-

QUOTE
Not mere coincidence.

Now that the season is over, it's important to look into developments off the pitch. Here's a brief article on our financial situation and what FSG are intent on doing to improve it.

http://soccerlens.com/liverpool-financial-...r-power/109041/?

Ian Ayre on Financial Fairplay

QUOTE
“That bodes well in an FFP environment. The real challenge for UEFA is to ensure the rules are applied correctly. It’s only going to work effectively if there are sanctions.

In reference to increasing sponsorship revenue and advertising income

QUOTE
The club’s owner and leader of the Fenway Sports Group, John Henry, has explained that he wants all entities under the FSG banner to be able to finance themselves and that’s only just started at Liverpool

QUOTE
So the way Liverpool are looking to improve their financial standing in English and European football is quite simple. A larger stadium means increased revenue through gate receipts and ‘on the day sales’ of things like merchandise, food and drinks.

The larger support base means large commercial deals which will tie in with all of the other forms of revenue Liverpool are entitled to such as TV broadcasting cash. That undoubtedly puts the club into a self sustainable situation and a much stronger financial position than they currently find themselves in.

Fair Play..? My Ass
Look at City.
Already spend something like 55mil before even Manuel seated as a Manager there. Now Isco is coming for 20mil+ also..
Dam fair play.

We might not muscle them out but i somehow like what r we buying this summer. I've not been more optimistic this season since KD January buy of Carroll & Suarez. We r plotting a group of talennt that may cost us at least triple time in a year of 2 if we don't get them now. Suddenly they r doing some real work behind scene.

Duke @ Agreed. All defenders r link sure got pace but not as pacey like attacker but still they need to position themselves from different attacking forward. Is all qualities u need to b a successful defender in any club...yes BR tend to push upfield coz he want to keep the pressure on the opposite ground more. Houlier & Benitez tend to sit deeper...that's true but alot of goals score this season is while we r defending & win the ball & float over to attack where we attack the space. It's just means we need to b mobile all the time. Anyway it's happy that if we sign either 2(Papa+Ilori+Aldy) of them. It will b a huge COUP.

Anyway. That's y staring Lucas is crucial. Prob is..we don't have Lucas No.2. Closes..is Shelvey/Coady.

There we go again.

Trying to decipher the bolded bits but I'm not doing a very good job at it. Not suggesting that our defenders need to keep pace with Usain Bolt but they should be mobile. Skrtel will and has struggled. Hyypia would have struggled as well but not because he is a bad player, rather, it's because he simply isn't blessed with pace. Mauricio Pellegrino would have too. If you look back to Martin Kelly's standout performance against the mancs, he literally matched Nani for pace.

Yes, I agree that mobility is important as players these days cover more ground and movement off the ball is crucial in creating chances.
