Most Tourist stuff are... those in books, blogs, online pages, michelin's rated, etc.Sometimes it is better to just wander around and try local food eaten by local people. It may not be the best though.

QUOTE(mugenz @ May 1 2013, 11:16 AM) Hahhaha. It's better than kl. Only designated open air can smoke. Can't smoke while walk, this was what I been told. The opposite way... they can't smoke while at public places. So therefore in smoking area, the bin will be full of buds and a few times I saw its actually heavy smoke coming out like its starting to catch fire. e.g while waiting at bus-stop or queue there, they can't smoke. If they want, they need to "walk" up and down the street while smoking (and look for their bus arriving). i.e. cannot queue and stand still there. Means, they don't have proper queue and need to line up at the back (during peak) once they finish smoking. If they want to queue, they need to hold their smoking-addiction, until they reach their destination bus-stop, get down, then smoke and walk home. |

QUOTE(straw @ May 6 2013, 12:00 PM) 1) If I bought Airport Express Travel Pass - 2 Airport Express Ride 1) For the Airport Express (return ticket) with 3-days unlimited, yes, it fits into your usage.Day 1 - Evening flight: Me from airport to Kowloon Station (1 journey Airport Express) Day 2 - start using mtr (day 1) free? Day 3 - start using mtr (day 2) free? Day 4 - star using mtr (day 3) free? Day 5 - Morning flight: Me from Kowloon Station to airport (1 journey Airport Express) still can use mtr free? 2) Since the card can use unlimited, can I on and off from YMT station to Mongkok multiple time for example? do they set any limit? 3) Airport to Kowloon Station & Kowloon Station to Airport (Does Airport Express Shuttle-bus provide free ride from Kowloon to Hotel & Hotel to Kowloon? Thank you. But normally I bought the one until Hong Kong Station (central). I'm not 100% sure if the Kowloon one has that same package. Try check Airport Express website. The 3 days unlimited is count by 72 hours basis, from the time you start using. If you start Day 2 10am, then on Day 5, you still can use at 7am 2) Yes, no limit for MTR under those 3-days. Check properly, as some ulu-ulu locations can't go for free, e.g. like cross-border stations Lo Wu / Lok Ma Chau. You need to top-up money inside. 3) Not sure, I know there are few lines of free-shuttle bus at HK Station to hotels in the island. If not too far, taking taxi in HK is NOT that expensive for short journey (for HK rate). |

If you shop high-end fashion/stuff, not enough. e.g. Patek Philippe QUOTE(Unseen83 @ Jun 26 2013, 05:33 PM) i be staying JW marriot Admiralty area...(never been there) room cost me 2.5K-3K a night pay already.. Standard red taxi should be HKD250-400 range, depending on traffic.edit: hotel concierge call me inform me car pick me up at airport cost me 900hkd... is that true? how much normal taxi to my hotel? Faster way is take MTR Airport Express to Hong Kong Station HKD220 return, then switch to taxi HKD20-30 one way. But if lazy, just take taxi from airport. |

Take-off towards KL, no. Best is if you can view Disneyland only. That also depends if the plane takeoff towards north-east-east, and then bank right, so you sit at starboard side (right side lah). Even if you sit left, while banking, the left side is high up and you see the sky only, just some minimum view of Central only.» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « If take-off towards south-west-west, direct straight into sea. Then the plane will normally bank left a bit into the sea. Sit at starboard, hope you can view Macau. The only chance is from KUL->HKG. Sit at port-side (left). Sometimes it will make a big round around HK island (due to congested landing), across Shatin and towards HKIA. Then, you will get a very nice view of HK island. Then part of Disneyland when it straighten up before landing. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Sometimes, it direct from south, then will bypass HK island, but it will bank left at Disneyland. QUOTE(Kelvin5717 @ Aug 26 2013, 06:31 PM) Hi Guys, Taxi. Quite easily available and by the meter.Am going with parents to HK next year April, I'm bringing my father and mother, father done an operation on leg so can't walk fast and cannot climb high floor + cannot go on escalator so I think most of the MRT station will be escalator and not so much of elavator. Therefore I'm planning to rent full day car to bring us around, do you guys have contact ? or anyone think it will burn a hole in my pocket ? If you can't walk faster than Singaporean in SG business district, you'll get squashed. But a lot of places, when you go in, you need to walk or climb. You name it: big Buddha, Ocean Park, Disneyland, Victoria Peak, shopping complexes, Mongkok road area, Tsim Tsa Tsui light-show, Causeway Bay, Wong Tai Sin, ... Also walking along shopping streets in Mongkok (temple, shoe, ladies, etc.) will be problem. There are no public bench/chair to sit/rest. Restaurants must order food/drinks. If peak hour, sorry lah, you have to move out once you finish your meal. And no public washroom at most MTR. Some small restaurants also don't offer public washroom. Even shopping complex, most don't provide benches. If need to, try bring along a walking stick that can double as a chair. Or just sit at the floor (or any place, bring newspaper/magazine/flyers), but make sure you don't block people from walking around. Using wheelchair/stroller in HK MTR is a no-no during peak hours, as well as all weekends/public holidays. Those who have been there will know the "sardines packed in MTR cans" |

QUOTE(dxjb @ Nov 22 2013, 10:02 AM) Guys..if bring RM1000+ for shopping alone, would it be enough to buy stuffs at temple market/ladies market? Depends on what you want to buy, or impulse purchase.and another question, is it advisable to get a HK simcard for a 5 day stay? need to use the internet so want to know is the wifi there good or should I get a simpack internet plan at the airport when I arrive.. thanks in advance for any replies. One time I bring RM300 for shopping, can't even finish it. Another time I bring RM3k+ , not enough. If you can't live without Internet, get the simcard and enable data plan for 7 days. mini/micro sim easy to get. if your phone uses nano sim, need to ask properly before buy. Price range with 7 days plan is about HKD65-95 |

The problem is warm & stuffy, especially if no wind is blowing. Also with the tall buildings all over, blocking the wind. There is no air circulating properly. So, become stuffy and sweat ... |

QUOTE(missysleepy @ Apr 29 2014, 10:54 AM) i think im at one of those areas like petaling street market. can't find shopping mall in the areas because surrounded by shoplots and 3-6 storeys office buildings. couldn't find a public toilets after some walk and when i went into office buidings , the toilets were locked with padlocks and meant for staffs only. That's the bad thing about HK.1) Public toilets - only in newer / bigger shopping complexes. Outside the older shopping malls, along the street, even most (if not all) MTR stations, don't have public toilets. HK residents consume very little water as well, generally they consume 500ml or less during normal 8am-6pm working hours. Even you want to pay for it also don't have. Some staff will help you with their staff key though. 2) Bench/chairs to rest - again, except a few newer / bigger shopping complexes and even MTR stations, there is no place for you to rest your feet. In most areas, you can't even squat/sit down (like mainland people), as you will block people from walking past. Worse case is to walk further out from main street, find some place to rest. Otherwise pay for it, goto restaurant/cafe and order something. But some char-chan-teng also don't provide public washroom (staff only). |

QUOTE(missysleepy @ May 7 2014, 02:58 PM) great tips.. If you been to Singapore at CBD/MRT stations during working rush/peak hours, you can see they walk much faster than us. Same with MRT escalator speed.I'm probably getting a better shoe since no seat at those old shops and boutiques. Now practice to walk daily. Also must get those ointment to rub at the end of the day. The shoe insole must be good too. Seriously, we really need to walk a lot over there if u want to see more stuff. ... HK is even faster than SG. So, if you think you going to walk slow slow M'sian speed, please get ready to adjust. (Masuk kandang kambing mengembek, masuk kandang lembu menguak). Otherwise, people there may make noise beside your ear or push you around. Escalator rule = follow the crowd and stand at one side. Sometimes you will see people running all over. That is fine, cause that's the pace there. Don't panic and follow them to run for no reason. But walk faster, you must. Different people will have different tolerance. Some people can walk from 9am till 9pm shopping. Some can't walk for 1 hour. Anyhow, just wear comfortable shoes. |

QUOTE(soonlee33 @ Jun 6 2014, 10:07 PM) Hk airport is so complicated It has the same concept as KLIA. Main building and satellite.Need to take train just to get to the boarding gate Make sure allocate a period of time for boarding during planning or else you will miss your flight KLIA train reaches the centre of the satellite. HKIA reaches the corner only. So, if you need to go to the other end, prepare at least 5-10 minutes, or 1km sprint |

QUOTE(ajay67 @ Oct 29 2014, 04:15 PM) btw, my question hasn't been answered yet. Yes, there is, but check the counter working hours. I know Lo Wu has it, but can't recall Lok Ma Chau has that counter or not. Last I recall somewhere, there is a non-working hours from 12am-6am or something like that.i did call china embassy in KL & they say it's not advisable. checking at tripadvisor forum, it's possible. Rate is slightly more expensive than do it locally China Visa centre @Hamsphire QUOTE(rekaito90 @ Oct 29 2014, 07:25 PM) Going to HK on december.. omg.. the MTR card etc etc is sooo confusing for me.. I don't really understand about this, https://www.paydollar.com/b2c2/AELControlServlet?&lang=eng Easy answer: Get the HKD300 2-way and it comes with 3 consecutive days free MTR*I'm going for 4 days.. Any one can explain this clearly? Googling around and still can't get the meaning.. What I really need is- Airport (Airport Express) – Tsing Yi (via Airport Express) >> Nam Cheong (via Tung Chung Line) >> East Tsim Sha Tsui (via West Rail Line) and I want my card can be access for other MTR services around HK main town. 2 way. Is that mean I need to buy Airport Express Travel Pass - 2 Airport Express Ride? How about on 2nd day , I want to go to Disneyland HK? You can top up the airport-pass (2-way) and use it just like a regular Octopus card. When you return back to airport, at the arrival hall, you can return the card for a HKD50 refund, and whatever balance you top-up inside. Long answer: Using your given route, it is much cheaper using Octopus card (buy at same counter outside arrival hall): Airport -> Tsing Yi = 60 -> Nam Cheong -> West TST = 9.40 Return times 2 = HKD140 only Return from West TST <-> Disney = 2x 19 = HKD38 Total so far: HKD178, which is cheaper than HKD300 (minus HKD50 refund) 2-way airport pass + 3 consecutive days. So, it depends how much MTR you can ride for 3 consecutive days (exclude airport & disney since calculated above) to choose which one. |

QUOTE(ajay67 @ Oct 30 2014, 12:52 PM) in my case, i travel in a family. is it advisable to use octopus card? so i need to buy one card each for family member right? i read that there are several types of octopus cards that make me confuse. also, there's purchase card & on-loan card. hope u can enlighten me Seriously how many adults & kids for family travel ? How many big luggages (to and fro) that can fit into taxi ?Check the cost for all airport express vs taxi. (i) Direct taxi from airport to West TST - Estimate about HKD350-500 one way, depending on traffic. Can take both red/green type, but better ask there. (ii) Airport express to Kowloon, then switch to taxi. Estimate taxi HKD40-80 only. You have to remember to drag your luggages on and off multiple platforms, changing trains, stations, some interchange have to walk really far, etc. although there are lifts/escalator/trolleys. So, if e.g. 4 adults + 4 medium luggage, I don't mind to share a single taxi straight to the hotel door. Else, want cheapest, check out those bus schedule A21, etc. About Octopus card, yes, one per family member. Return within <30 days (IIRC) got additional charge, cannot recall, maybe around HKD9 each. If you plan to travel HK again, you can keep the Octopus card for 3 years (last use). |

You can also use it for purchase at 7-11, Circle-K, Watsons, Mannings (Guardian), etc. so that you don't get yourself with very small Hong Kong coins (5, 10, 20, 50 cents) |

QUOTE(ajay67 @ Oct 30 2014, 01:12 PM) there will be 5 adults & 1 kid. I just recall something we did when we have 5-6 adults, not in HK, but somewhere else.yes i ve studied the options & will choose A21 bus from airport, & will travel fully on MTR & city buses. so, all these services can use octopus card right? 1) Chuck all the big & heavy luggages into one taxi. Fit in as much adults as possible. Give printed check-in and ask the person to wait at lobby (or check in first) once arrive, get all room keys. Taxi with luggages normally can fit 3-4 ppl only. 2) The remaining, take public transport trains/bus to the same destination, without luggage (or minimal light ones). Cost wise, it's the same, or just 10-20% more expensive than all taking train/bus, but at least we don't need to drag the luggages around. |
