Please share more info, I'm interested to know as well.
Even HK Island tram cost a flat HKD2.30 per exit nowadays.
1. No. HK & Macau same same. If open shop, may chop you 9 9 similiar like KL. Or food quality drop due to less workforce and rush mass produce. Two weeks of the year, not to go HK, is first week of May and October as well.
Also, all those mainland China & HK public holidays, e.g. Christmas, will be super packed with people, a lot come in from mainland China and you will feel you are at Shanghai/Guangzhou.
CNY is better to go western or countries that don't celebrate CNY.

2. Most will open, HK is very money and time oriented. Major shopping centres will open as usual.

3. Hotel is super-peak period price. Depends could be 1.5-3x

4. Definitely. Don't even think of going to theme park like Ocean Park, Disney, Big Buddha, Wong Tai Sin, Peak, or night laser show at TST. The waiting queue will be hours, waste time only. Even shopping areas like Mongkok & Causeway Bay will be packed like sardines.
But is good to enjoy and experience the crowd if you never tried before  tongue.gif
Non CNY, if you are lucky will have other kind of crowd  whistling.gif

Actually, no harm to try experience CNY in HK/Macau. But do discuss on expectation and reality with family members. At least everyone may not feel frustrated/angry when compared to their (or friends) non-CNY at HK visits previously.

e.g. my friend who went to Big Buddha, queue >2 hours to take cable car ride in. Queue another 2 hours when come out. Imagine how much time standing at HK land there  tongue.gif
But when I go there on normal weekdays, go in 5 minutes queue. Come out 15 minutes queue only.

big buddha last time i also hv to queue during normal day, 45m - 1hrs
lucky when back time no need to queue

got another option rite? i think can go by bus...

anyway thank you
still got many months, gonna take sometime to consider

Yes, bus. A bit twisty road (not as bad as old cameron highlands road) and took about 40-50 minutes ride, depending on the drivers' skill and urgency. You think during CNY the bus queue is short ?  tongue.gif
Still have option to take taxi though from Tung Chung ...

Same with The Peak. Got option to take bus if the funicular train queue is long. But some of us took taxi back to causeway bay as they don't want to take the bus.

4-5 pax per taxi, even out, actually sometimes is not that expensive.

taxi fare from peak to MRT how much?
big buddha to citigate?

hk normally use whice taxi apps, mayb can use tat to calculate...

taxi from peak to causeway bay shopping  tongue.gif  about HKD60-80, depending on traffic. Could vary as well. Bus will go all the way to Central MTR & pier there, but you can drop off at Wan Chai/Admiralty there along Queen's Road if you know where you want to go next.

Big buddha never take taxi before.

I don't bother use apps. Just hail or queue, and ride. No need haggle like our beloved Malaysian taxi  ranting.gif  Just sit inside, close door and tell them, better if you can speak cantonese place name or road name to them. You tell them Queen's Road Central, most won't understand. Tell them "Wong Hau Dai Dou Chung" (皇后大道中) will solve the problem.

You: Bring me Causeway Bay MTR
Taxi: ???
You: Thong Loi Wan Dei Tit
Taxi: Pin Chek Hau ? (which door, as there are multiple exits at most of their MTR stations  unsure.gif )
You: ??? Sor Gor chin pin dak la (stop in front sogo is fine)
laugh.gif

Try not to speak mandarin, else they will treat you like PRC (refer earlier posts)
*
HKD80 per ride not very expensive

and normally i show taxi driver google maps, some country hv train exit labeled

ohh HK-Macau ferry during CNY need booking?
or as usual wait few stop until available
i can buy 1day before, coz in HK it is very convenient... not like macau

I suggest take the western route from Causeway Bay Patterson Street (or anywhere you like) towards Western market. Choose the newer tram where the top front seat is empty, facing front and not facing sideways. This is important so at least 2-4x people can sit facing front.

Take the morning/day time as you can see things better, rather than at night. Don't expect to have a good view of IFC2, HSBC, etc. as the buildings are just too tall. For this, better goto TST there at night.

What can you see ... let's see on the western bound route. The goose-neck-bridge where it is famous to hit "small people"  tongue.gif  right opposite Wan Chai fire station, under the bridge. If it is the correct month/date, you can see activities there (the blue bus under the bridge there).

Next, nothing much in Wan Chai -> Admiralty. Some non-interesting stuff such as this building at Marsh road one of the old/heritage building where the owner/buyer wants to tear down and a big protest from HK people to retain it.  yawn.gif Oh yeah, at night there is one nice snack here  rolleyes.gif

Turn into Johnston road, right in front of Wan Chai MTR, opposite is a small lane Tai Yuen street, something like Petaling street. Wan Chai market is here. Oldest ex-post office is here. Blue house is here. Famous snake soup is here as well.

All the way until it starts to enter Central, turning, passing by the old Bank of China, it starts to get interesting again. Look left, HSBC. Be quick to snap the lions  laugh.gif  They have an empty wide space at ground floor, sometimes can see protest, people camping, or old uncles/aunties queue up for some promo stuff, longer than our iPhone launch queue  rclxub.gif

Then you know you reach Central as those branded names around all those buildings. Nothing much here, just tall buildings, and shopping.

If you stop at Jubilee street and walk up, that's the Central wet-market. Then got the Lan Fong Yuen here. Or the wan tan mee. Or the dumpling. Or that Tomato spaghetti thing??? At night got Dai Pai tong here as well, around these streets.

ok, back to tram. It will continue travel westward along Dex Voeux Road Central passing by Sheung Wan MTR. Now, this is the reason to travel west and sit facing front, you will reach Western Market terminus and see this.

You may continue ride all the way, but nothing much already, all the way to Kennedy Town.

Westward can take Western Market, Kennedy Town, Shek Tong Sui, Whitty Street Depot trams.

If you go east ward, there is nothing much view when pass by Sogo. Check the link, Sogo on your left. Patterson street station is at the furthest front just in front of the green traffic lights after that big zebra crossing.

Going further east towards North Point, all the way to Shau Kei Wan, nothing much to see as well. There is another wet-market at Shau Kei Wan terminus. Unless you got time to burn like me.

Also, if you going westward from Causeway Bay, don't take Happy Valley as it will turn there halfway along the route.
Vice versa if going eastward from Central, don't take Happy Valley if you want to go Causeway Bay. You can take Causeway Bay, Northpoint, Sai Wan Ho, Shau Kei Wan, etc.

Thank for your advise.

1) I had booked an apartment via Airbnb and i doubt that they have baggage storage services.

2) Thanks for your information

3) How many hours do you recommend me to stay at Ngong Ping? What time does their cable car start operating?

4) Thanks for your information but i think i does not have much choose cause if i we do not visit  to visit disney land and ocean park day after another, we would need to visit it on weekend and i think weekend will be very crowded

5) Considering to go to Tai O after visiting Ngong Ping as they are quite near to each another. May i know how to get to Tai O from Ngong Ping? How long does it take to travel there from Ngong Ping? If put Ngong Ping on the last day will be very rush as my flight is 14.25.

QUOTE(siauann @ Jul 1 2016, 01:21 PM)
book the room with airbnb. before booking i double and triple confirm with the person. after booking nightmare come. i even whatsapp the room owner before i went to hk the day before. my schedule is 1st day reach hk then i go macau. when i reach hk airport i whatsapp the person again say the next day will check in late. after that when i reach hk from macau the next day i call up the guy. he didnt pick up. after a while he call back. then he told me sorry the room is double book! can u imagine how shock am i when i heard that? he apologise many times then he say nevermind i will sort out for u. i arrange another room.

so i went to the place to meet him up. when i saw him he apologise to me and show me the room he manage to arrange. its also nearby the same building which we initially book from him. to our surprise the room is very very bad. looks old. smelly. not very clean. my friends and i dont want to accept that. for the price we pay (higher) we got a bad room which is not worth that initial price we pay at all. then after few discussion he say he can refund hk100 per night if we take that room. of coz we are not happy. but we dont want to spoil our vacation becoz of that, then we made an agreement with him. we request full refund if we manage to find other room. so we open up agoda and search nearby. and we are lucky we manage to get another room which is far more better and of coz expensive. but we have no choice already.

as promise the guy agree to full refund. including all airbnb charges. so basically we dont lose a single cent but was force to stay at a more expensive hotel.

my first experience with air bnb is a bad one. maybe is not my luck. or maybe the person we met is not honest with his business. we did see some review from some other user mentioning something like our case. i feel that its like a scam. what im suspecting is this guy accept all booking. then those who is unlucky one will experience something like me. then he will pretend to arrange another room which he can get cheaper. and since already pay him he will earn the extra. i dont know. but thats just my assumption only.  sweat.gif

jus write a bad review is more than enuf
afterall airbnb user are used to read the review
