fuji 2600fd is potentially a great cam, since it uses the same sensor of F30. i'm looking fwd to this. if it's really good, i'll skip buying a DSLR for now smile.gif

i'm looking for F30. where do you guys buy your fuji cam? quite difficult to find lor. any recommendation at bukit bintang area, or others? i went there yesterday & only one shop got it at BB plaza. quoted RM1299 with 512MB card. looking for (much) better offer...

whosyour daddy, IMO you don't hv to own a DSLR to learn photography, but it does help, of course. just choose the one with manual control, or at least got aperture priority/shutter priority/ISO selection to understand how they work, & how good (or bad smile.gif ) the photo come out. may be you can start with a good P&S like F30...

can you guys recommend a good, compatible memory card reader for xD card? i heard some are not compatible eventhough it is for xD card...

i prefer to use card reader instead of connecting the camera

as long as it fits your screen size, it's fine. don't have to find specific for your model. so u can buy RM20 one same as mine at shangrila. it doesn't affect the lcd brightness. i'm sure many cam shops has it.

Questions for F30 owners... (I'm very much interested in this cam)

1. Does the 'M' mode in the model dial allow manual shutter speed and apeture settings? (I've read that it doesn't, just want to clarify)

2. Does it have manual focusing function?
*
1. M mode is actually auto with selectable ISO, white balance
you can select Aperture OR shutter speed with A/S mode

2. no manual focus. you can select spot focus if you want

Can you select the ISO and white balance in A/S mode as well?
*
yes of course. in A/S mode you can set everything that M-mode can do, plus selection of aperture or shutter speed

stalkie,

you're talking about hand-shake right? not subject movement..

if you want to eliminate blur without tripod, make sure your shutter speed is at least around 1/60. for me i can still get non-blurry photos at 1/30 but need to be careful when pressing the shutter. sometimes i use 2-sec timer & i can hand-hold for 1/5 wink.gif. try it!

i'm sure your F11 will show the shutter speed when you half-press. u can use A/S mode -> shutter priority. if it's too dark then you hv to increase the iso

but if subject movement causes the blur then u need much higher shutter speed depending on the speed of the subject

stalkie,
i donno what you mean by 16. on your camera, if the shutter speed is 1/60s then you should see 60

for moving car i think you should use 1/250 or even faster

kon,

F31fd is an upgrade of F30. of course it will be discontinued once upgrade/replacement model comes out. it happens all the time...

the FD feature is interesting, but i'm not so sure whether it is very effective, or just marketing hype. but theoretically at least, it helps to get properly exposed face shots. u can also do it with F30 with spot metering. just aim on a face, half press, recompose & shoot - although you can only spot on one face, not multiple face like in FD wink.gif

anyway, buying a camera is also about timing & opportunity. i bought my F30 in time for recent raya & relative's wedding. so i can't wait for next model. so if you don't hv particular event to attend, you can wait. otherwise, F30 is already pretty good IMO

i lost my F30 usb cable! really donno how it can simply dissapear from my PC table sad.gif. is it possible to purchase it from fuji malaysia or is there any common 3rd party cable that i can use? i'm waiting for fuji's email reply, but i'm sure it's quite expensive. alternatively, anybody uses xD card reader? i heard many horror stories about xD card reader not compatible, lost photos, even damaged harddrive! so i hope you guys can recommend & have experience using a no problem xD card reader. i'm using olympus 1GB M type.

thnx albnok

i heard from many forummers (dpreview) that they have problems using xD on card reader. anyway, i took the plunge last nite & bought a RM28 multi-card reader after the salesman said i can return it if it couldn't read my xD card. there is not even a brand name on the reader. it reads my card without problem. problem solved wink.gif

btw, fuji says the usb cable costs me RM70 & hv to go to their HQ in PJ on weekdays to get it. looks like i don't hv to buy it after all...

Grengo,

raw format : easier to PP later if you under-expose & white balance is bad. but of course jpeg format can also PP to some extend. dis-advantage is big file & slower performance

white balance : the camera interprets white differently under different lighting conditions so it has to be inteligent enough to guess the right white color. so in some cases u might want to select the white balance manually based on lighting condition. so far i trust what my F30 cam choose in auto white balance mode so i don't select it manually. in fact i tried once to select incandecent & it turned out too bluish for my liking. in worst case u still can PP to correct the color cast

IMO cam manufacturers don't want to use optical view finder on big size big zoom cams becoz it does not "see" exactly what the lens sees. the axis/angle is a bit off. may be for small cam it doesn't matter since the distance between lens & view finder is not that far. SLR/DSLR has the best optical view finder since u see thru the lens

your rechargebles are not a waste (may be 8 pcs is too much wink.gif ) coz you don't hv to buy alkaline ones anymore. maybe just a set of 4 for emergency
