The medical chekup needed by MMU is pretty simple. You can do that at a clinic.

As far as accommodation, there's plenty of it. UA, EP, Ixora, Pangsapuri Bunga Raya, KOPTEM, internal hostel and housing area at TBBI, TBBU, Tmn. Dahlia, Tmn. Kerjasama, Tmn. Bunga Raya and Tmn. Bkt. Melaka.

Hi,

Don't stay in EP (Emerald Park). That's all you need to know.

Bye and have a nice day.

Yours,
Yui.

MMU internal hostel and EP have a quite bad living condition. You may need to opt for other options.

Should be less than hundred. I done mine at Tung Shin Hospital and it was roughly that price.

As for accomodation, all the locations I stated earlier are less than 30 minutes of walking. MMU internal hostel, EP, Ixora, parts of TBBU, Tmn Dahlia and Tmn Bunga Raya are the nearest to MMU compound.

Where are you from? If you have time, you may want to pay an early visit to inspect the surroundings and at the same time if possible, try to seek for a potential house/room/hostel.

I'm from WP BTW.

Does the medical checkup really need an xray photo of mine? I feel not really worth to increse my risk of getting cancer just to apply for MMU.

I'll maybe get a bicyle there as I don't have car so i can go by bike to campus.

My requirement for hostel is- MUST GOT STREAMYX!!! if not cannot download show anymore.

Yes, you need the X-ray. If you work later, you'll need to do a medical check-up which also covers X-ray. Don't worry about the radiation, it's pretty low.

I also don't have a car and guess what, I have been walking for nearly 5 years.

The Internet connection offered at EP, hostel and UA are nearly touching average quality with EP is being the worst.

If you're going to rent a house/room, you just apply phone and Streamyx by sharing them with your housemates.

What's your grade.. MMU got only 2 intakes for foundation(I guess) which is feb and jun, I took the jun intake as I'm having NS.

BTW, do I have to send my xray together with the reply letter which requested for my detail, library application, hostel requested, medical checkup? Because I'm afraid the xray photo might damage on postage.

You no need to post the X-ray film. They need the result of the X-ray test which will be put in the medical forms that MMU sent to you.

smile.gif The nearer your house to MMU, the more expensive it is. Last time i used to stay at Taman Kerjasama... only 5 minutes walk to MMU and the rental for one house is RM1200! Shared among 8 tenants and i had to share room with a roommate, somemore the room is quite small and hot.

Now i'm staying in Taman Bukit Melaka, and it took me 15 minutes to walk to MMU. The rental for the entire house is only RM500 per month. Installed streamyx etc and my monthly rental is around rm230 inc. utilities and internet access.

I cycle to campus too. smile.gif After you settle down in MMU, try to search for 2nd hand bicycles... mine i got for rm70 only and it serves me well. As for hostel, unfortunately you cannot download via BT. KazaA or other p2p programs as the management had blocked those relevant ports. Best if you just rent a room outside of MMU.

And, Welcome to MMU. I'm from FIST, Gamma BIS smile.gif

smile.gif It all depends, you can even get a RM300 house but you'll need to walk 30 minutes. If you find house nearer to MMU, then rental will be expensive and you have to find more tenants to lower down the individual rents.

Just for example:
My previous house = rm1200 per month, shared by 8 ppl in 4 rooms. Everyone pays around rm150. But you'll have to stick with some bastards if your housemates/roommates really sucks. Moreover you can imagine 8 ppl shared a 1MB line, 7 of them BT on for 24/7 sweat.gif

My current house, rm500 per month. 3 rooms, 3 housemates. I got my own room! More convenient as sometimes my gf will come. tongue.gif Quiet, peaceful... hehe.

I'll list down some locations:
1. Taman Bunga Raya - This taman is situated just behind of MMU. You can enter MMU from the side entrance near the tennis court. Price is on the high side for the row of houses facing MMU, but further away it will be cheaper.
Bad points: If you're Malay then no prob; else chinese gonna walk a distance to find food.

2. Taman Kerjasama - This taman located behind Petronas. This is where i stayed last time... the RM1200 per house one. It all depends on the distance from your house to MMU; further the cheaper. You can always walk to MMU corner or other nearby shops for your meals. Very convienient.
Bad points: hmm... students normally complain bout the safety, as burglary happens once a while.

3. Taman Bukit Melaka - The taman i'm currently staying. Location is just opposite of Taman Bunga Raya. Can say is the furthest taman from mmu gua... but rental is cheap and food is easily accessible.
Bad points: distance lo, what else?

4. Taman Dahlia - Located at the left side of MMU. Very far from restaurants but near to mmu lo.
Bad points: Trouble finding food. Robbery etc is quite a norm in this taman.

5. EP (Emerald Park) - Damn noisy, lousy internet connection. Only thing good is you can wake up on 9:55am and still early for your 10am class. Food ah... ok lo, EP's food cannot complain much.

6. UA (University Apartment) - Quite a distance from MMU. But well got swimming pool, got lift... malay food is easy to find, chinese food you have to walk a distance.

The rest... i'm not sure lo coz i don't walk here walk there tongue.gif Hope that helps. smile.gif

It depends. Some landlords will require you to sign an agreement. Like my previous house, the landlord gave us 2 choices:

1. Sign agreement for 1 year, rental will be rm1200 per month but the next year's rental will adjust according to current market value.
2. Sign 3 years agreement (that time all of us still beta students), then rental remains at rm1200 per month for 3 years.

We chosen the 2nd one, but i moved out after a year coz cannot tahan those housemates. sweat.gif

My current house is rm500 per month, no agreement so if you're really unlucky, the landlord might wanna use back his house and halau u all. But till now still ok la smile.gif 3 of us stayed in this house, 3 rooms, everyone pays rm200 per month. The extra rm100 is to cover our electric, water, and streamyx bills. But rm100 is definately not enuf one la... coz all of us on computer 24/7, end up every month's electricity bill is around rm150~180, + streamyx rm66 per month, water around rm5~8...

basically you'll need to spend around rm160~250 on rental + utilities lo. smile.gif By the way, you must take into consideration of your room too. Master bedrooms are more expensive, that's for sure.

hard to find to be truth if you're looking for single rooms.
You might get, but the house might not up to your expectations.
You'll mostly ended up with sharing room too. sweat.gif
If type of house is not your problems, shophouses along taman bukit melaka might suits you.

smile.gif Hostel perhaps?

RM200 most probably u'll have to share room with someone, if you want your house near MMU. Heck, my current room is rm200 per month, single somemore. But at the expence of walking 15mins/ cycle 5mins to campus lo... Well, i normally cycle so 5mins ain't a big deal.

Not sure whether MMU has its own ftp coz u can download virtually anything to everything through BT tongue.gif

tongue.gif its a noisy place, bad internet connection. Basically you're stuck with http/ftp downloads so say bye bye to BT or other p2p apps lo... Good thing is the infamous bus-stand burger stall is very near, somemore you can solve your meals by just walking to the ground floor smile.gif

from my foundation experience staying at EP, after looking back at it, it is not that bad as what others may proclaim to be that if you can adapt freely to changes as per mentioned, no p2p of any sort, firewalls that you even have to do connection settings for your chat programs, visitors whom wish to visit you need to leave their IC and obtain the visitor pass.

on the upside, EP is kind of a mini cyber cafe (which is another downside as it'll be noisy at times) where you'll be doing alot of LAN gaming, you do not need to go around looking for housemates.its near to campus.even if you do not have p2p, some other tenants of the same block might be kind enough to share out folders on their comp and etc, you be the judge yourself.

although i'll only recommend EP if you plan to stay there for your alpha level only

*this is speaking in general terms for the guy tenants.as for girls... mostly continued staying in EP due to the fact that the only reason is, EP is right infront of the campus and most of em don't want to go that extra mile (as far as i know, although some might have other reason like parents forcing them to stay for safety reason etc...)

hmm, coz i changed course i have to extend one more sem and now I am moving in EP, about the internet in there if its teribble i might apply wireless streamyx which is better than their internet inside. My current room rent in Taman Kerjasama is RM180 shared by 3 in a really big master bedroom with balcony - electric and water included. All of us are moving out of this place coz single room here going to cost over RM260 CHEAPEST and shes charging me old tenants RM280 for single rooms cause my other mates are moving to Cyber

You're going to stay at here for one year the least or four to five years the most; therefore you must bring things that you need for your daily usage; i.e. clothes, computer, food (for first one to two weeks), toiletries, pillow, blanket, bag, stationery, money and lots more ...

what do you guys think of Ixora apartment?

Early to judge since it's a new place. No people have been stayed there yet.

My first impression will be gorgeous and should have the same (or better) standard as UA.

Did they (MMU) attach an offer letter to you with the bundled of stuffs you received? If so, meaning you're being accepted. Otherwise, it's the other story.

I already get my student ID and offer letter, what's left is my med checkup, hostel app. library app. personal particualr....etc info. Should have arrived in MMU i guess(just sent it).

Anyway, do you think Ixora park is good? what troubles me is the internet connection since it would be almost like EP. Location wise...

How you know the connection quality is like EP? They installed the cable already?

Worst come to the worst, apply phone and Streamyx.

Ixora is new ... hard to compare. If you ask, I'll definitely say it's better no matter how. A new lot is comparing to anything that is being used.

Plus, it's so near to the campus.

Ixora, Pangsapuri Bunga Raya and University Apartment Internet Connection is provided by Saturnet Company which is run by a current student from FISTmajoring in Data Communication. No doubt that it might be having some problem, but give him time to improve. Not so sure whether there will be enough ports for streamyx in BB area since that area is quite congested and a lot complaints of line terrible, but nothing has been done til now. If you opt for streamyx, better make suer that Ixora is covered in. If not, Uni life without internet connection will makes you suffer.

You don't need a modem. All you need is to equip your PC/laptop with a network interface card (NIC). Usually they are subscribing to a leased line.

Yup, in UA there's a gym and swimming pool. But for gym, u need to pay some amount to join the club which is under managent then only u can go for it. I suggest u find around 5 of your friends then rent 1 house in Green, the swimming pool is quite nice, and gym is fre to use if you are staying at there.

Not so sure about swimming pool and gym. But to be frank, UA is quite far if you intend to eat chinese food. there are stalls and restaurant, but mostly is malay food. The nearest Chinese food to UA is Petronas row which takes about 10-15 minutes of walks.

Yes, true...all these apartment connections are gonna suck awful, but be patient. They'll be upgrading.

Just stay off EP no matter what.

EDIT: The stuff at Ixora looks fine.
MUCH MUCH better than EP, more spacious and much more comfortable.

there's internet connection.
just tht if u feel tht it's slow, u can install streamyx smile.gif
if no internet connection, all the tenants will protest, we cant live without internet here.

whereas EP also provides us with internet connection but if slow u cant do anythin coz u cant install streamyx on ur own. it's not allowed.

Most of us are staying outside at housing area. Usually girls and those in first and second year stay at hostel like internal MMU hostel, UA and EP.

Staying at housing area has more freedom.

aiyo worst come to worst , find a pal in mallaca register streamyx wireless and then bring that equipment into EP and use it in there lolz , for the billing address send it back to your house in home or send it to your friends house around mmu and then you pick it up later , isnt its easier that way? , I myself moving into EP till can find a proper place to stay , current lanlord price is increasing to a rata that you have to rely on maggie me for the whole month as food and starve if possibble lolz

the GM of Emerald Park had called me up for a meeting b4 i left malacca.
from what he told me, Ixora is an apartment that is ready to be sold off, but wif a condition where the one who bought the apartment have to hold on for 5-8 years. within that period, the apartment wil be managed by Ixora's own management fellows and turn it into a hostel like EP. Internet connection wise, they wont b around EP's quality but one benefit they have over EP is they allow own installation of streamyx which EP refused to do so over the years.

here's a suffering thread of mine during my worst nightmare wif EP's internet connection

Okay. Here is your solution. I might not guarantee it will work.
Take your offer letter and submit personally to student admission unit of which campus you are offered. And when they ask the reason, give your reason(This part will be treated case by case basis). When they have accepted it, pay the money to MMU through bank.

MMU has a university status for god sake. MMU Melaka campus area is not very large. When the development phase in Cyberjaya campus is completed, it'll be a very large campus with tonnes of facilities as compared to Melaka campus.

As fruitie and hazremi says it, it is closed. But sometimes, they also do consider some other factors if you really wants to join MMU. Try to head up to admission department and try your luck. It might works though. Just for special case only.

I applied MMU Melaka campus. Foundation in engineering. I got the supplementary booklet in the self address envelope I posted when I made the application. I thought they will use the self address envelope I posted to post me the offer letter but it was supplementary booklet, instead. Is that mean I have been rejected or what?

neXus is an official student forum lah, of course there will be restrictions. Many events has happen in the past that threatens the existence of the forum, guess what the admin will do to keep it alive. Not much choice there. If u want to spam or do anything that u can't do at neXus, u can go mymmu.net. Pros for neXus is that u can b**** to the Student Representative Council directly, get access to the hidden Emina forum n there are more people posting in Lelong at neXus compared with mymmu.net.

P/S: EVERYONE should join Emina, which is our anime club. We got anime screening every Thursday nite n sometime there will be special screening. One of the special screening last year is Final Fantasy: Advent Children (a few days after it's leak) You must attend the Emina AGM, every year they screen something cool. N there's the GACC '07 (whatisgacc.com)
