Most current notebooks are powered by W8 nowadays, hard to avoid nod.gif
Since you don't game or do anything very intensive, can consider these:
15.6"
Dell
Inspiron 15R, i5-3337U + AMD HD7670M@RM1999[2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8SL
Inspiron 15R, i7-3537U + AMD HD8730M@RM2949[2.32kg], 6GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8SL
Inspiron 15R, i7-3537U + AMD HD8730M + (1920x1980; anti-glare)@RM3299[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8SL

With its ULV processor, coupled with a normal capacity battery, the battery life of these machines will be much better than average nod.gif
Prices in RRP, negotiable. If you are good enough, you should be able to get option (3) for less than RM3k brows.gif pretty worth it considering it has FullHD, superb for movies~

Can consider this one as well, the IPS FullHD screen is a must-not-miss brows.gif
15.6"
Acer V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8

Personally I think this Dell would be your best pick:
15.6"
Dell Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB, backlit keyboard optional, W8

Price in RRP, negotiable. Shouldn't be too hard to get one for around RM2.8k if you bargain nod.gif
Use remaining budget for warranty extension to 3 years on-site for peace of mind brows.gif

Not recommending HP or Lenovo as there are no FullHD (useful for your work) notebooks within your budget range.

Assuming you are editing photos and videos, can consider these:
15.6"
Acer V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8

Prices in RRP, negotiable.
use remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years nod.gif
Then later on when you have the money, upgrade the HDD to SSD, that will cut off some weight and also reduce heat and damage proneness (storage media)

Pretty much this one for your budget nod.gif

14"
Asus A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8

easier to choose laugh.gif

Light? Recommending ultrabooks haha laugh.gif
but do take note that ultrabooks are not really designed for gaming, so they will get hot when gaming, and the performance would be weaker as well nod.gif

Can consider these:
14"
Asus [Ultrabook]S46CM-WX023V, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM2399[2kg], 4GB, W7HP

HP [Ultrabook] Envy4-1204TX, i5-3337U + AMD HD8750M + 32GB mSATA +500GB(5400rpm)@RM2399[Beats][1.75kg], 2GB, W8

Toshiba [Ultrabook]Satellite P840-1000X, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M@RM2799[harman/kardon], 4GB, 750GB, OD, W8P; backlit keyboard

Grats on your purchase bro thumbup.gif
No worries, Illegear produces great, affordable and easy-to-maintain notebooks nod.gif
Now coupled with the good warranty support offered by Prince J and his colleagues, things should turn out pretty well thumbup.gif

The Lenovo Y500 would be the best pick for your requirements, though the battery life is slightly lower than an average 15 incher's
15.6"
Lenovo Ideapad Y500, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920x1080)@RM3799, 4GB, 500GB, W8; GN36 exGPU, 120W & 170W AC adapter

*use remaining budget for RAM upgrade to 8GB, HDD upgrade to 256GB SSD; warranty extension to 3 years, and you will have a mean monster  laugh.gif

Hi again, just wanted to ask about the SSD upgrade.I went to get the laptop today and he told me the upgrade would void the warranty. Im also confused now as the laptop seller guy showed me an acer v3-571G @ 2999 he said it was cheaper and had better specs than the Y500. Can i also know how much the SSD costs? One seller told me it was 800~1000 and the other said it was 400~500. Please help. Super confused now.

Upgrading the HDD to SSD will not void the warranty, as long as you don't damage other parts while doing it..
Never trust sellers laugh.gif

An 128GB SSD costs around RM400-500 whereas a 256GB SSD costs around RM800-1000 icon_rolleyes.gif

Do you mean the Y500?
Check out the Y500 thread here. Lots of owners has done the upgrade of HDD to SSD, nobody even encounter the "warranty void if broken" seal at the HDD bays.

Acer
V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8
Are you talking about this Acer? smile.gif
1. The re-seller charge higher than RSP.
2. This V3 has a very nice IPS screen.
3. The Y500 has a more powerful GPU than the V3.

SSD, just like other storage, has different prices for different capacity. 128G ~ RM300++, 256G ~ RM600++, depend on brands.
