OK bro, then I trust you and just leave it like that without extend the warranty. biggrin.gif
*
I think TJ meant 1 year extension should not cost RM350. For brand like Dell, extend from 1 year to 3 year on site only cost RM250 hmm.gif and Dell 3 year warranty automatically become international warranty tongue.gif

So if you really want to extend warranty, maybe double check on the price again tongue.gif

1. Preferred brand
Any. Would prefer to avoid Acer and HP, though.

2. Budget
- Below RM 3000.

3. Usage
- Gaming

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
- 15.6
- Full HD screen

Additional information:
Using in Australia so I would need at least 1 year international warranty that is applicable in Australia. (Lenovo Y500 is out of the question here, then, sadly).
*
You want FHD screen and 15" and only RM3k budget tongue.gif Good luck icon_rolleyes.gif

Acer
V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8
You don't want Acer. Come with International warranty. The screen is good, but GT730M in FHD is nothing to shout about.

Asus
N56VB-S3070H, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M + (1920x1080)@TBA[/b][2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 750GB, W8
Don't know when Asus is going to release this and how much, but should be close to your budget.

Dell
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB, backlit keyboard optional, W8
Old work horse, the only one that tick all your box if you extend warranty to 3 years (it become International). Again HD7730M in FHD is nothing to shout about tongue.gif

Lenovo
Y500, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM2999, 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs
Too bad Lenovo Australia don't sell Y series (so warranty coverage is uncertain)

By the look of it, nothing for you right now icon_rolleyes.gif

1. Preferred Brand:
Toshiba

2. Budget:
Less than RM2,000.00.

3. Usage:
Webcam for Skype calls, watching movies, light gaming for games that do not need high end requirements, games like Football Manager 2013, and other regular tasks.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size:
No preference.

5. Background story:
I do not know anything about Toshiba laptops, I have no idea if they are at the high end or the low end in laptop markets and I have no idea how their market reviews are. However I might be able to purchase one at staff price, that's why I'm trying to find out if I should take advantage of this to get a bargain. If any of you experts can name me some Toshiba models that might be closer to what I need and their price range so I could may be find out a bit more myself I would appreciate it very much. Thanks beforehand!

*Amended preferred laptop/screen size.
*
It's not a brand, it is the line of laptop by a brand. Tecra is good solid. Satellite is more consumer and more fragile tongue.gif
Anyway, at retail price, Toshiba generally lose out in terms of price / (performance / spec).
If you could get staff price (what? 50% discount? laugh.gif ), then it is definitely worth it.

Satellite L840-1041X/1041XR/1041XW, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M@RM1999, 2GB, 500GB, W8SL
Satellite L840-1035X/1035XR/1035XW, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M@RM2349, 4GB, 640GB, W8SL
Satellite Pro L840-2007X, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M@RM2699, 4GB, 640GB, W7P, 3 years local limited warranty
Satellite P840-1000X, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M@RM2799[harman/kardon], 4GB, 750GB, OD, W8P; backlit keyboard
Satellite U940-1001X, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + (32GB mSATA + 640GB HDD)@RM2699[1.7kg], 4GB, W8, backlit keyboard,(1st year on-site)

Prices listed are RSP. So you should see how many % discount you manage to get.
Please make sure you try out and totally comfortable with the keyboard on the U series if you opt for it icon_rolleyes.gif

If you want to run Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite, you should opt for Y400. But Y400 has lousy battery performance.

Hi! Please recommend for my friend,

Ordered according to criteria importance:
Budget 3000-3500
Casing Color: Black only, yes she thinks black is sexy.
CPU, must be i7-QM, CPU-intense apps will be used
Screen: Prefer 15", if not, 14"
Windows: 7 needed, apps does not support Win 8 yet.
Weight: After satisfying criteria above, the lighter the better
Touch Screen: Yes, she fancies it but I think its not a must.
Resolution: FHD, if not, HD
GPU: Optional

Thanks!

The biggest hindrance actually is the W7. Not many brand new laptop come with it now.

There are a lots more choice from US. They have models that we don't have in Malaysia (and specs may differ). Also, practically all brands in US let buyers customise.
Also US run some crazy sales / deals from time to time.

For 17", we mostly see gaming laptops in Malaysia (we don't have good reference point). But in US, 17" normal consumer line is common.

Try to PM AlexLai sifu (he is based in US now) and see if he could help you. Ask nicely smile.gif

2. Budget = Below RM 1.2k. Slightly higher is okay
3. Usage = Mostly for just for travel, internet, light office work usage like MS word/PowerPoint and watch movies.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size = 12.0 inch and below. Actually looking for extremely durable light-weight notebook, good keyboard  and maybe durable coz it is just for travel.

Thanks in advance!

12" and below normally don't have "good" keyboard (it's subjective anyway) tongue.gif You better try it out on real thing yourself.
Your budget is low. 12" or lower, if you go with Intel Atom CPU (in Netbook), you may have slight lag running Powerpoint (especially those with lots of fancy effect). Atom could handle Words and movies fine. Intel Celeron should be fine.

Opt for i7. Slap in a 128G mSATA SSD (install OS and apps on it). Go for the nice gamut screen. You should be set. Check with Prince J, as illegear run promotion from time to time (the other day they are giving out SSD for free hmm.gif )

1. Preferred Brand: acer (because they're cheaper for the same spec.) but i'm open to suggestion

2. Budget < 3k

3. Usage: programming, web browsing, emailing, text processing.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size: <15"

5. Additional requirements: at least core i3 (no atom/pentium/low voltage amd); ram preferably >4gb; weight <2kg

Actually I'm torn between the convertible (acer iconia w700) and ultrabooks (dell vostro 5460). However I think dell vostro's spec is little on the low end (4gb ram), and I expect more for the budget I've paid. Any input?

Huh? You think Vostro 5460 don't have enough RAM (you have to upgrade to 8G stick since it only has 1 RAM slot), but you are thinking about Iconia? rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
Iconia W700, i3-2375M + Intel HD3000 + 64GB SSD + (1920x1080; touch)@RM1999, 4GB, W8; BT keyboard

If you like Acer, alternative:
Aspire S3-951-2464G25, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000 + 256GB SSD@RM2699[1.35kg] (not easy to find)

Anyway, if you like Iconia, better grab it fast, it about to EOL and get replaced by P3 (which is lower spec but same price tongue.gif )

Actually the Lenovo warranty could be upgraded to cover Australia. But the issue is Y series is not sold in Australia, so if you have any hardware issues, spare parts availability could take some time even if warranty cover it hmm.gif
