No need blu-ray drive, dvd drive will do.. Movies can be in hdd *ahem*...

Any suggestion bro?

Ya the Y500 is a good choice for your usage nod.gif
15.6"
Lenovo Y500, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM2999, 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

BUt you will have to compromise in terms of weight. You can opt for the lighter and cheapre Z500 as well, but then you will have to compromise on screen resolution and CPU/GPU performance hmm.gif
IF you are not buying in a hurry, you might want to wait and see what the Y510p has to offer when it reaches Malaysian shores icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi,

1. Preferred Brand - Any

2. Budget - RM10k and below

3. Usage - for my daughter studying in UK, surfing, music, movies

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - any, ideally touchscreen

5. Warranty - NA since she is in Manchester

6. Weight - ultrabook or any which is light for her to carry for lectures

7. Processor - i3/5/7 4th Gen only
*
Haswell's ULV processors are not out yet over here.. you'll have to wait. Or just stick to 3rd gen Ivy Bridge processors. The performance difference is not big if only using for those normal tasks laugh.gif

*
Hey its you again laugh.gif I remember you laugh.gif laugh.gif
Welcome back~
For those normal tasks, an ultrabook will do (Z500 is not exactly an ultrabook):
14"
Dell Vostro 5460, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT630M + (32GB mSATA SSD + 500GB(5400rpm))@RM2199[1.54kg], 4GB, W8SL, 3 cell

HP [Ultrabook] Envy 4-Ultrabook 4-1035TU, i3-2377M + Intel HD3000 + [32GB mSATA+ 500GB HDD(5400rpm)]@RM2159, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP

Lenovo [Ultrabook]S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1999[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; AMD HD7450M/W8@RM2199

*Only recommending the ones with SSD for snappier performance laugh.gif

Some confusion here bro..

Lenovo website is confusing, http://shopap.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/ide...y500/#techspecs

1. screen reso only stated (1366x768)..some say got DVD drive, some say no.  hmm.gif

2. does swappable ODD means we either can opt for dvd burner or 16gb SSD as per from lenovo website?

No follow latest tech..asking for my bro.. sweat.gif

Thx!
*
Never trust websites since they are either summarizing the specs, or outdated laugh.gif
Check with resellers for more accurate info nod.gif
The specs I've shared with you should be correct

I'm a graphic design student. I would like to purchase a good performance laptop (even battery life), so that I can use my 3D & animation softwares/files smoothly.

I will be purchasing a 256GB SSD drive for my laptop as well. So I don't want to buy a laptop which is above RM2500.

Screen size: Any (FHD, if possible)
Preferred Brand: HP, ASUS, FUJITSU, DELL.

Recommendation Please, Thanks.
*
There are no FHD, performance notebook at RM2.5k. Still, can consider this one. Closest:
15.6"
Acer V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8

MSI GE60K, i5-3230M + Nvidia GTX660M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM2899, 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, 2 years warranty

Both are above my budget. As I mentioned I will be purchasing a 256Gb SSD, replace it with the HDD. For FHD, I mentioned 'if possible' or else without FHD will also do. According to my research I found Dell Inspiron 15R and HP ENVY Series which fits my budget. Would like to know your opinion on these 2 models or is there any other models which are better in less than RM2500?

Thanks.
*
Prices mentioned are in RRP. Some forumer managed to get RM2,6k for the MSI GE60. Just letting you know since its much more worth it.
Otherwise can consider these:
15.6"
Acer V3-571G-73614G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT640M@RM2699[2.6kg], 4GB, 1TB, W7HP
Dell Inspiron 15R, i7-3612QM +AMD HD7670M@RM2599[2.74kg], 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8

Pretty much these since having an i7 CPU will be more beneficial for your work.

haha, how did u remember me? although this is my 3rd time asking for recommendations. tongue.gif

Hmm..not necessarily need ultrabooks or touchscreen.
And now u just added more choices for me to choose from..  sweat.gif
*
Because I recommended you one of your notebooks before? Forgot which one already though since you kept on changing (or changing for your gf) haha laugh.gif
ANyways its good to see you again~

Well, I wasn't recommending any normal notebooks because they are simply overkill for your gf's usage. The ultrabooks may have slower CPU (not that it matters if its only for normal tasks), with mSATA SSD, ultrabooks will still give a faster experience then those normal notebooks with a normal (slow) HDD icon_rolleyes.gif
Additionally, ultrabooks are slimmer, lighter, and more good-looking, girls will dig those wub.gif

Yea, i asked here twice before, but 1 for me another for my bro. Not that i keep changing.. haha.
Anyway. are there 15" with msata? since i dont really need ultrabooks.
15" is better for movies right?
*
The thing is only ultrabooks will have mSATA SSD or SSD as default. If you are getting a normal notebook, you'll have to install one yourself, and of course, not everyone has the technical abilities to do that (including me tongue.gif)
15" in general are better for movies, if the screen resolution in high enough. 1366x768 is not exactly very high for the notebooks you can get with your budget unfortunately. You get more DPI, but it will actually make everything even weirder (as in too large). Large size will mean harder to carry as well.
But if you insist, can consider these:
15.6"
Acer
V5-571G-53314G50, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT620M@RM2199[2.3kg], 4GB, 500GB, W7HP
V3-571G-53212G50, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1999, 2GB, 500GB

Dell
Inspiron 15, i5-3337U + AMD HD7670M@RM1799[2.25kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell, Linux; W8SL@RM1949
Inspiron 15R, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M@RM1899[2.65kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP/W8

Lenovo
Z500, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2299[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 years warranty

QUOTE(neozeroash @ Jun 28 2013, 06:49 PM)
guys..
my budget RM4000 max, what i got - intel 330 ssd 120GB

my needs
1. 15 inch
2. a-bit-fast-future-proof gaming rig
3. can tahan for 3-4 years and company still can services the laptop if got problem after 3-4 years (dont mind if need to pay)
4. can hold and maintain high load multimedia (vegas pro, photoshop, after effect, premier pro) and engineering (autocad, solidworks, mathlab) software..
5. can be bulky, NOT an ultrabook
6. dont care the ram coz i'll max it according to the processor  brows.gif
7. battery life dont need to high,3 hour max if can

im consider 2 option..pls tell me which one u prefer and why

1. y500 i7-3630QM+GT750M SLI+msata 120gb ssd (for OS)+1tb HD (i will sell trade/sell my ssd 120gb to get msata 120gb ssd due to only 1 slot for HD and 1 msata slot)
1.1 might consider Y510p i7-4700MQ+GT750 from ajul (trader for y510p) if can use ext GT750 from y500..can r? or when will y510p SLI come?

2. illegear re-15 i7-4700MQ+GTX765M +1tb HD+ my intel 330 ssd 120GB for OS (coz got 2 slot for HD and 1 msata slot)
*
We are not sure whether the non-local units sold by ajul will be warranty covered here in Malaysia. So if you really want a Y510p, be sure to make sure it is covered 1st, or wait for our own local Y510p in Malaysia.
But if you ask me, I would go for the Illegear. You do get much more GPU performance and also customizability from there. A stronger GPU will enable you to play more games even as your notebook becomes more outdated later on, and of course, Photoshop and engineering softwares are more optimized for Nvidia GPUs. And since you already have your SSD, you can use the money saved for 3 years warranty extension as well. Illegear's warranty support has been very impressive so far.

Too bad the MSI GT60 is a bit out of your budget, otherwise can consider too laugh.gif

Bro, wat about above msi ge60 u recommended?

Y although it is lower spec but the but the price close to y500? Is it coz its gaming brand?
*
Well, you can't judge a notebook by merely looking at the specs, like most consumers in Malaysia do.
There are many things apart from the specs, such as ergonomics, built quality, warranty support, cooling etc., which will incur price increase, especially if its good stuffs.

Is it? I thought our illegear is same with clevo W350ST?
Just a note, Sager/Clevo has the worse built-in speakers out there and some, like the w350st's can even sound like a PSP. Also they come equip with cheap 3.5mm audio jacks and VIA onboard audio, which deliver distorted sound when paired with creative home cinema. In short if you are an audiophile or someone who cares about the sound quality, avoid clevo/sager because you will be having some of the worse sound experience ever. I cancelled my w350st order after testing the audio solutions in person. Pretty disappointing

Just a note, audio solutions in CLEVOs are terribly bad. The speakers are distorted, and they practically sound like a PSP (even my w995 non-smartphone beats the lousy onkyo speakers in the clevo). The 3.5mm audio jacks are not even close to standard sound quality. It comes with VIA audio chip and Creative Sound Blaster Home Cinema, but produces atrocious sound quality that sound worse than a radio. If you care about sound quality, stay away from clevo, else you are all set for clevo, as other than sound quality, it has more goodies than the msi ge 60. Unfortunately i can't seem to ignore the terrible sound quality (as i went down in person to test drive the system) and ended up cancelling my order.

Clevo W350ST is awesome but only the sound quality spoiled it  cry.gif  cry.gif

actually not all peoples are concerning about the audio. even though im an audiophile, i really cant notice the difference. so i personally dont rely on built in speakers and audio quality that much.

but i believe the fellow illegear users here are happy with their speakers.
click here and go to the last page. you can ask them about the audio quality.
*
Having cheap in-built speakers can be easily "fixed" with external ones... but if it comes with cheap 3.5mm jack (as in even using earphones also bad sound quality), then that will be a big problem laugh.gif I hope its not the case la haha, cause these are not cheap notebooks hmm.gif

Hi all,

1. Preferred Brand - Anything except HP (bad experience before)
2. Budget - RM1k - 1.8k
3. Usage - Gaming (Crysis 3 or something similar)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - Preferably better cooling system

Thank you in advance!

Crysis 3 is pretty demanding, you won't be able to get a decent gaming machine at your budget unfortunately sad.gif
Still, try looking for these:
