QUOTE(csrulez @ Apr 3 2009, 08:39 PM)
PIDC only came into the dental education market around 2 years back. As during that time, AIMST was the very 1st private dental college in Malaysia and most of the students from the senior batches (batch 1 and 2) are yet to be exposed to PIDC. Plus, PIDC is relatively a very new uni and does not have much facillities for their student yet. I think their 1st batch has just finished their pre-clinics? Wherelse AIMST currently, has a dental hospital to cater for clinical students. I guess edge85 could elaborate more about his school about this. smile.gif
*
Aimst dental far more experience than pidc thou the fees is almost the same... with a dental hospital where student will have hand on experience will enhance their learning? besides with a well known dean prof smales from uk...

Ah okay. Anyways, PIDC is out of my options, my dad doesn't want me studying in India. :/ It's most probably AIMST. From what I saw at AIMST's official website, the campus looks freaking huge! biggrin.gif

Another question, since the AIMST foundation students are given priority first to choose their undergraduate courses in AIMST, would it be too late for me to apply if I were to wait for my UPU results which will be out on the 3rd week of June?
*
Yea, the campus is brand new also... if u wait for ur UPU result then u have to enter the july batch... take the aimst foundation meanwhile waiting for the result? hmm.gif

You still can apply for the april intake for foundation.... the closing day will be 6th of april? send by poslaju will take 1 day only thumbup.gif
No worries... or the second choice is wait for may intake or july intake??

No, I'm not planning to take the AIMST foundation. I've done my STPM last year and scored CGPA 3.84. Would it be good enough? I'm afraid that if they will give most of their seats to the AIMST foundation students, then I would miss the intake.

Hmm... ur result meet the min requirement.... yea, aimst will allocate more seats to their foundation student... however stpm or a lvl top scorer still have chance to enter? icon_rolleyes.gif In your case, there is some of them went for the foundation 1st for backup their plans to come aimst.. and when they receive the offer letter they went straight to degree... A safe plan than waiting? wink.gif

last year the yearly intake is 75 only? but this year i have heard that they will increase?? shaun, any updates yet? hehe...

Oh wow, means there is a possibility that I might not get to pursue Dentistry in AIMST? A bit risky eh. The foundation course is one year right?

If I apply for dentistry now, would it increase my chances of getting accepted rather than applying after getting my UPU results?

Yes, 3.84 will definitely get you a seat i'd say. Don't opt for the foundation programme with such a result, you could even enter medicine with it. But i'd suggest you to apply now instead of waiting till june, at least your seat is secured plus you could opt for UPU after the result's out. Most of the seat will be already taken up by june as the intake's on aug/sept. Offer letter will be sent out by june. smile.gif Hope these helps.

*edit: Last batch of BDS intake was 50, this year they'll be increasing it to 70. If i've not mistaken.

Oh, the offer letter will be sent by June? That's weird, because the closing date for application is in August. Anyways, thanks a lot! smile.gif I'll apply ASAP.

On a totally irrelevant note, are you planning to pursue a specialist course in the future? ^^

By august i think the spaces should all be taken up already. Dentistry is quite a critical course here at AIMST. You could try applying before the announcement of your UPU results.

And on the irrelevant ques, LOL. Yeahhh, i plan to continue to at least post grad specialty. I guess it has became a requirement for doctors these days, if not susah cari makan larh. Haha.

with cgpa 3.84, i highly doubt you'll get an offer for BDS/DDS from any public university...

Urh yeah, I suppose it's because of the facilities. But, not many people know about AIMST.

Haha, true. Post grad in what? I wanted to be a paediatrician before this actually. I mean, it has always been what I've wanted. But, it's gonna take a very long time for me to achieve that. T.T I don't know if I can handle that. But, I've always admired those who are willing to go that extra mile without considering how long will they take to finish a course. That includes you lor. Haha.

Previously it's worst. But at least now people who're in the fields (Health sciences) would know that aimst actually existed.

Post grad in most probably surgery, subspecialize in paeds. Therefore a paeds surgeon. LOL. It's still a dream though, finishing the 5 years itself is not an easy task already. Let's just hope. Haha. You were interested in medicine? Why dentistry then? Interests can easily lead through a long way in your career. Plus 3.84 could i think get you into medicine in UMS or UNIMAS. Dentistry is tougher as spaces are so limited for the non-bumis and 4.0 are required i think.

Yeah, exactly. Haha. Hmm, dentistry is more flexible for a woman I guess. Won't have too many on-calls. tongue.gif I'm not putting much hope on local uni. :/ It's tougher to get in but is it tougher than med? :S

In this case, seats are more limited for dentistry than medicine. I've heard people with cgpa 3.8 entering UNIMAS and UMS. Not UKM, USM or UM though. smile.gif

Dentistry is only offered in UM, UKM and USM. Lol, that's why very limited. >< Btw, the degree from AIMST is only recognized in Malaysia?

I'm quite certain that I would be studying in AIMST. Haha, but now it's the matter of being accepted by AIMST or not. Nope, AIMST doesn't offer scholarship for bachelor courses. sad.gif
