guys, is aircrack good enough on its own, or it would be best to run it together with another application?

You run it off backtrack

Wut? Aircrack can run off almost any linux distro la. I ran it off *buntu and Debian before. Just build dependencies

What you mean on its own? It is flexible enough to serve other purposes but it really depends on your goal

Uh, whats with the hostility man? I just asked what you want to do with aircrack. But if you are so insecure...... (see I can make assumptions too)

for me, aircrack are good on its own but the complexity made me burst out. I hate to run multiple terminal to sniff, dump, and crack. so i use some automate script todo the task. The more simple and short. Save my precious time. Just run, hunt, wait and pwned. My favourite is wifite.

wifite, fern, gerix, reaver, etc please dont misuse it. If ur not familiar with aircrack commands then u wont have an advantage over someone who has no wps biggrin.gif

Its pretty easy to use aircrack actually and is more rewarding. Heres some basic

airmon-ng - lets u know which adapter is plugged
airmon-ng start wlan1 - starts ur choose adapter
airodump-ng mon0 - monitors ur neighbourhood giving out channel essid shared mac address etc

Btw i dont encourage stealing. You step on the wrong toes, ur credentials might get stolen or worst you can get prosecuted/fine put in jail.

Get dictionary from torrent site. It's quite impossible to crack WPA except you have a powerful GPU unit.

aircrack and all such scripts are used to educate users to migrate to WPA from WEP.

WPA is still bruteforce hacking and is somewhat secure for the time being.

It's like you have a padlock to your front gate. It can still be open by the right people but most people will be discourage to enter your house.

Why must the GPU be powerful?

I think Malaysian password pattern is different from other countries, so foreign dictionary is unreliable. But some people do use just alphanumeric for their password, some even uses their phone number. You can generate your own dictionary based on Malaysian phone number format, or birthday. hmm.gif

Wait, isnt aircrack-ng use to decrypt the wifi password?
this bring back memories, Btw, the GPU must be powerfull to execute alot of parallel wifi key attack, it will try every each kind of password combination.
indeed CPU is powerfull, clocked at gigahz, but a gpu just under GHZ but with many core will do better cracking.

anyways, is anyone know how to crack WPA password?
care to teach me?

If I'm not mistaken, when you're trying to crack WPA, you need to specify a library file that contains password for brute force attack,

GPU affects cracking process is new to me actually. sweat.gif

hi guys ,

after i reading this thread i also wonderig how does a GPU affect the cracking process using backtrap .. my opinion is better CPU instead of GPU

can you briefly elaborate it ??

btw ~ who put his/her internet security at home using WEP will be the easier one who will be hunt xD ..

but WPA/WPA2 is kinda hard because i dun have any idea how it work .. what kind of dictionary then we need ??

Yes, in term of speed CPU win,
but in term who can do lot of work at the same time, GPU is the clear winner,

for example.
the Core i7-3970X is 6 core processor- the price tag, i belive it somewhere near rm3k
and ATI HD 7990 is have 64 Compute Units (4096 Stream Processors) and the price is the same as i7.

when you saw the number of processor core,
6 against 4096, its clearly the GPU have the advantage doing parallel work,
not to mention, you could plug in more GPU in a single motherboard to stack the GPU power.

Using aircrack isn't that much fun anymore i think, not that many WiFi using WEP right now. tongue.gif
But from my experience, all Unifi WiFi networks are vulnerable to WPS-Pin attack using reaver. I've heard that it's the firmware flaw of the router, making it impossible for the old version to deactivate WPS support. So that makes majority of the default Unifi routers almost defenseless. CMIIW

And for the GPU cracking, I think pyrit is more reliable than aircrack. I used my nVidia 570 before, and the passwords per second of pyrit trying to bruteforce is more than 10x of my AMD 635 X4 processor. You have to compile the pyrit for CUDA support first...not sure about the ATi.

Using aircrack suite alone is good enough as it is pretty powerful, although you may prefer to use it with something else.

ATI cannot do GPU cracking because it does not have CUDA technology. WPA cracking requires capturing of handshake, involves deauthorization and is more of a man-in-the-middle attack, so positioning is a problem also. Very troublesome, and need to brute-force your way through.
