There is sumtin wrong with Maxis network again.
But than again everyday also got just today much worse. Some connections are being looped around (TTL expired in transit) Do a tracert on say thepiratebay.se and you will see that it goes through the same server over and over again. Must change to another ISP if still this crazy at the end of 2 years |

Just to confirm what everyone else is saying, replacing the Thomson router with an Asus router will solve most if not all of the problems. Did that over the weekend and have no issues so far. But as far as I know that does not solve the latency issue as that issue lies with Maxis and the way they route their data. For example, as famously also mentioned here most if not all connection to Singapore goes through Hong Kong first for reasons unknown.

TLDR
Gamers who want low latency go UNIFI Downloaders who want high bandwidth for cheap go MAXIS (Have to replace default router though) MAXIS + ASTRO = Don't even think about the migraine you will get just to save money |

QUOTE(IntensiveBytes @ Jun 13 2014, 08:41 PM) The wireless signal from the provided Thomson router is not the best and it also tends to freeze or restart once in a while. In addition, the Thomson router has a NAT Table Overflow problem whereby opening the Steam server browser will kill the connection. The ASUS router I'm using now has been up and running stable ever since I got it. |

QUOTE(yltan @ Jun 14 2014, 10:45 AM) Anyone with the Thompson router having the conflict of IP address? I have 3 wired and 8 wireless connection to the Thompson router with static IP to the devices. However, when there is a new wireless connection to the router, the new wireless connection will have the same IP to the wired connection(usually the first IP address, eg: 192.168.1.54) thus conflict of IP address. I spotted the problem already. You're still using the Thomson router Second issue is the slow download speed(~20kbps) while the speedtest is ok. Seriously just change to the ASUS N12 like me and enjoy the problem free connectivity. |

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Jun 14 2014, 01:25 PM) I guess as much. I've seen this before and did not want to risk anything as it looks quite complex. I managed to take out the Thomson router totally out in the connection while still able to use VOIP. There are steps provided on the link below; https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2710206 If you're successful, VOIP will be handled by the TM Huawei HG850a VDSL modem. So far, the connection for VOIP and internet has been very stable except for the disruptions / downtimes from Maxis Fibre themselves. Also I'm fine with having an extra device just to handle the VOIP. Anyway good job for having managed to remove the Thomson router completely. |

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Jun 14 2014, 03:14 PM) I delayed doing it until only recently when I was forced too. My problem was not internet connection related but more so the VOIP giving problems. Phone calls coming in will restart the Thomson router. As far as I'm concern the VOIP goes unused. No one in the house uses it and as long as I get my high speed internet without headaches, I ain't complaining anymore.Internet connection problems can be solved by using 3rd party router like Asus but VOIP problems how to solve? |

QUOTE(Arukk @ Jun 18 2014, 01:23 PM) HI Bro Firstly make sure you have the username and password for your Maxis fiber somewhere. Than, just remove all the cables from the old Thomson router and plug in the Asus N12 in its place. Leave the cable position from the TM modem the same which goes to the WAN port of the Asus router. I can't remember VOIP but it's from LAN2 or LAN3 of the Asus router connect to the Thomson router. To get it to connect, just follow the Setup Wizard in the Asus router and select MaxisFiber.May I know how did you configure your ASUS RT-N12 D1 router? Mind to share with me, i'm plan to get it to replace my Thompson too Tks Here is the link to their video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7VUBSFy_es |

QUOTE(Arukk @ Jun 25 2014, 03:09 AM) It's somewhere in the Thomson router configurations or the technician got write it down somewhere among the documents he passed upon installation. Assuming it's not public id it should look like XXXXXXX@home.maxis.com.my and the password will be the same XXXXXX +1 at the back (XXXXXX1). |

QUOTE(orangutan @ Jul 30 2014, 10:38 AM) I did this with my laptop whereby I set the DNS to Google's server. Than about a week ago, I got hit with the infamous Website Blocked. Only after changing the DNS on my new Asus router than did everything return to normal. So word of advice, change the DNS on everything! And I mean everything be it the router or device! |

QUOTE(lucaswjk @ Dec 19 2014, 12:24 PM) im maxis rm118 generation, i guessed among the first maxis fiber here So I also manage to get in early and was not throttled for quite some time when it was first implemented. I have now been though and recently it looks like the cap has been raised to 100kb/s from 50. So maybe once they start seeing that you download a lot they will put you on the throttling list. I might be wrong but won't be surprised if some people are not throttled at all from 8pm - 2am for torrents if it's occasional. I have no info on weekend torrenting but I can test it out if there's a request.pls do not simply reply without any credentials info maxis hv Official Throttle time for torrent from 8pm to 2am check this> http://bit.ly/13FOPTJ and now for unofficial time, i suspect on some badday... especially weekend maxis throttle ALL DAY LONG, but the throttle speed is not as bad as official nite time i hv few different torrent, the speed is fixed at 500kbps --- finally for direct file server, i long time didnt use premium account so i cant accurately answer this but last time fileserve can get full speed... before sony saga As for the direct downloads the past 2 weeks were quite bad from Uploaded and Rapidgator. Was only averaging about 300kb/s but since 2 days ago it seems to have return to normal and I get the full 1Mb/s. EDIT: And just a few hours in after typing this, the direct downloads from Uploaded has been cut to a quarter. Can't tell if Maxis at fault or the server side. So I've done some science into the speed degradation for both direct and torrent. Firstly, my uptobox, uploaded and rapidgator downloads are coming from France whereby the line is unstable at the moment. Sometimes you get full speed but mostly less than half. Due to that I've been torrenting a lot more now and at exactly 8PM it slows down to 100KB instead of 50KB previously and by turning on anonymous mode, it puts me back to 1MB. This should be the same as Level 5 traffic shaping avoidance in Vuze I believe.

Much better now but still have rare instances where sometimes some websites do not load fully. Consider it 90% fixed and assume this is the best we gonna get cause I doubt Maxis is aiming for perfection.
