Ok, a question for those running SIP clients to call from your VOIP account... Can you make IDD calls? It seems to be barred when I try, although calling from the house VOIP phone is ok...

I think it's better you refer to the front page for high rise installation.

Usually they use VDSL wall socket for high rise installation unless you can have more than one socket  (not sure about this, using mine in terrace house)

So can't use more than one due to that limitation, so can only use one service at a time.

i still with maxis ftth because it's cheap with 600minutes call to mobile

That's the angle which many users do not mention.

I signed up for the rm118 deal. For that, I got:

a) 10mbps up and down. I'm not much of an online gamer, so I have no complaints on the ping issue (although that has improved a lot since the early days). My downloads (unlimited so far) are super fast and upload (pictures, dropbox, etc) also no complaints.
b) I get 200 mins IDD to 20 countries, including places relevant to me like UK and Australia, so I save easily rm30-50 per month on that.
c) I get 600 mins for my house phone to call Maxis mobile phones. As many of my family and friends are on Maxis, that's a real saving.
d) There's also 150 free minutes added to my personal Maxis mobile line

I was on Unifi before this, paid rm150 fpr 5 mbps which included IPTV which I never watched, and got free calls to TM fixed line phones (how many friends do you know use that?). And calls to mobile were expensive.

So for me, the numbers were compelling. In fact, I paid the rm500 penalty to TM to break my contract. Though, I must say, there have been some hiccups along the way, but nothing so bad that I would want to give up the service...

Hi there. I just got Maxis Fibre 3 days ago.

I need some help setting up VOIP. I am using sipdroid and getting "Registration failed (401 Unauthorized)" error.

Below is the info I entered:
Authorization Username: 037497xxxx
Password: 037497xxxx1 or 16525yyyyyxxxx (billing account number + last 4 digits phone number)
Server: bvgw01.maxis.com.my
Domain: homesip.maxis.com.my
Port: 5060
Protocol: UDP
Use: WLAN/3G/Edge

I am wondering if Maxis has started to change the password format...
Help is appreciated. Thanks.

The details appear correct. Is your phone line up and working yet from your home modem?

Mine is actually on TM fibre and not the Maxis fibre, hence the old ONU model that I have. I was with Unifi and terminated my account and migrated to Maxis.

Looking at HG8240w, there is a TEL1 & TEL2 ports and I believe reading the manual, it has dual support, SIP & H.248. Save the current config you've, go and play around with the ONU, if something goes wrong, just restore the old config and restart again. Sorry, no experience on HG8240w.

Mine is the old Fibrehome ONU. Anyone know how to access that?

FOR TL-WR841ND you need to use custom firmware with it then need to set VLAN 621
stock firmware has been coded with Unifi VLAN ID

my suggesstion better change to ASUS router RT-N12HP it does support both unifi and maxis ftth with the stock firmware , all you need to do just keyin your user ID and pass

But still cannot connect VOIP phone?

Use mobile laa... Maxis fiber voice very limited... So I don't bother...

It's useful, I have some people at home who use it to call friends, the monthly free minutes is a bonus. Plus the free IDD...

Then you need to get RJ45 to RJ11 converter ot get a RJ45 DECT phone
*
So you think the VOIP will be routed thru the TP Link? No one seems to have been able to route voice calls without the Thomson/Technicolor router...

As stated by previous reply, Maxis is running on top of Unifi for the end of mile connection, anything goes wrong, your downtime will be doubled, I've experienced this myself. So .. if Unifi is not stable, I would say that Maxis is double that .. I moved from Unifi to Maxis with the thought of having double the speed with less than what I paid for Unifi.. I was wrong! You can barely feel the speed increase, yes, I could get 10Mbps or so connection when testing with local server, but we usually browse/download from overseas servers. My average speed with Maxis is the same as what I had with Unifi. And another point that you may want to look at, the throttling done on P2P, I don't use P2P that much tho'. And good luck if you choose Maxis tongue.gif
*
Not entirely accurate, at least in my experience. Yes, browsing will not be dramatically faster comparing my 10mbps Maxis to my former Unifi 5mbps, but this is often dependent on the site that we want to go to. But for direct downloads (not P2P), I get dl speeds of 1.2 MBps consistently, which is the 10 Mbps connection. With Unifi, it was typically 500-600 KBps, which is again consistent with the 5Mbps service. So it is faster...

i agree with you .. homeplug = coverage ..
but homeplug only can provide 30% speed...
I guess, I will replace thompson router all together..

replacing with TP-Link WR1043ND .. they have local stock firmware to support maxis/unifi ....

Only if you don't want to use the phone...

yeap , I do not need the phone ..

Then you can do it the easy way, i.e. route the Thomson/Technicolor (wifi disabled) as WAN into your own wifi router. Or you can setup your own router to replace the Maxis stuff (the harder way).

Sorry... just that we sometimes get so into modding a router to take over the Thomson function, when all we want is a more stable wifi connection...

Technicolor is what Thompson rebranded to, so it's the same thing.

I'm using the Asus RT-AC69U...  to replace the technicolor..  However no solution for the voip though.

Someone mentioned an ATA plugin.  haven't found any yet.

I'm using the Mikrotik as main modem for internet and wifi, with the Technicolor downstream to carry the voip. Can't find a single box solution yet... sad.gif

Mikrotik can be vDSL modem too ? hmm.gif

Nope. I'm on landed FTTH and upstream from my Mikrotik is my TM Fibrehome ONU which provides the WAN feed to run my PPOE login. Don't forget the Mikrotik just a router. Albeit a very good one...

So I gave up trying to connect my voip direct from my Fibrehome ONU as nobody here seems to know how. Instead, bought a Mikrotik to be the modem and put the Thomson downstream for voip duties only. You see, in my house I need a fixed line phone.

But the stupid Thomson is still so unreliable even in this reduced role, hanging every day or 2. So what to do, I bought an Obihai 200 and connected that to the Mikrotik instead. Now, happy days, no more Thomson issues...

I replied to another person concerning accessing the ONU and making it handle VOIP by providing the link below. Didn't you see it?
