Just wondering... why most of school genre animes still use black boards and chalks in their school rather than marker and white boards just like malaysia.

Japan being a technological advanced country still follows its old tradition of black bords i guess.

Any opinions?

Almost all government schools in Malaysia still use blackboards and chalks.

Only when you are in private schools and colleges, you will get to see whiteboards and markers like I did.

I think you're outdated... alot school in Malaysia now changes to white boards and it's been few years ago(unless you're talking about schools in rural areas like kampung and pekan). Black boards are used maybe for religious classes for writing jawi.

i guess... it's a trend in animes. there're certain things better left unchange.

Also, my aunt who is an English teacher in a government school shared to me that they requested to use whiteboards and markers in the classrooms.

And you know what kind of answer they get?

"Whiteboard markers are hazardous and it may cause cancer....blah..blah..."

It's amazing what kind of answers that some people can come up with.

That's right, Malaysia could have safe millions of ringgit. Even in national service camps they are using white boards.

My school uses white board all the while it's been 6-7 years in the past its a gov. school, Alot of school I asked uses white board.

actually.. chalk more hazardous.. the dust can dangering lung....

my junior said... blackboard better than whiteboard because whiteboard got silau.... so sometime, hav to change places to get better view....

in japan.. maybe black board bring some nostalgia or olskool flava

Universities and colleges still use chalks and blackboards. Especially those engineering type of institutions. But hey, IT courses, for example, dont even use whiteboards and such.

Yes, but they are using white boards in lecture hall and classroom, blackboards or some say green boards are used in workshop or bengkel, like inti college.

why is it a debate between chalks & markers when it's suppose 2 be common things in anime

because chalks are common thing in anime, and in most "chalk" anime... what does it symbol when the teacher was writing then suddenly the chalk broke?

one of the reason ii think they use chalk in anime is for the teachers to throw the chalks at the main character to wake them up from slumber... hahaa.. wouldn't wanna marker to be thrown at ya~

Naw, you might say that Inti college might be just a 'modern college' or 'IPTS'. But hey, chalks and boards will be used on large hall means 120~200 students in the hall. Usually of course. I've seen many colleges/universities which have something like this.

Good point. There are two kinds of marker. Permanent and white board. Sometimes, lecturers will mistakenly use the permanent marker on the board. Not a problem with chalks tho.

Not sure you guys really know anything about the hazards of Marker pens or not, Cause my company has just recently layed out a strict rule about it due to the lead content inside the marker pens. It causes cancer and also bad for the enviroment.

Besides, The white board is only suitable for small rooms as the reflection caused by the surface makes it hard for a large amount of student to read inside a normal classroom.

And, in the long run, chalks are still cheaper.

The dangers of chalk getting into your lungs and eyes and ears and pores or anywhere isn't anything as dangerous as sitting by the bus stop waiting for a bus.


White board is indeed nicer to use...
Lead free markers are expensive.

besides, you still have to take the students into consideration. Students are known to steal the chalks to draw their tables and chairs, Whiten their shoes and play around with their friends... Now Imagine a bunch of markers taken by those kind of students for vendalism...

Japan uses lead? That would destroy much of their electronics industry as there's a law which implies a lead free technology. A simple accident from a drop of leaded ink into a PCB board spells An entire batch of electronic products wasted due to not sale-able.

They can't use chalk boards for classes with computers because the chalk can damage the computers.

My school is still usign chalk and i've left for uni 5 years ago......

They're so well taken care off that there is no reason for them to change.

Unlike in Malaysia, every 2 years change blackboard coz students would punch holes in them or somethign.

Hey, that's pretty common anyway. Look at Hollywood movies. Use the same clothes from the beginning to the end.

Now this is fun to think about. I remember in some anime, the char openes her wardrobe, tons of clothess hanging around, and chose the same pair of clothing she wore everday. Hmm.

And there are ecchi things u can do with chalks. Perhaps that's the reason..?

those action, fantasy or mecha type anime, there'll be some kinda power or weapon upgrade half way through the series

i noticed that every anime (not sure actually) got i scene where "how do you do that? How can you wake up when i beat u like that? Why this? Why that?" and they always got explaination of those Q. "Actually I do this... I do that..." and they explain it in the middle of fight or pitch/court (sports anime which is really concern about time).

one more... hero always lose first n then suddenly got stronger with their fighting spirit or angriness.

mostly anime that have a lot of galz like Comic Party and etc.. there are lots of galz type that i notice.. too hyperactive, beautiful+elegance, kawai+clumsy and soo on

they wear the same clothes in the whole anime...

Friend/Dad/Mom/Brother/Sister/Grandparents/Teacher/Wife/GF/Acquaintances/anyone the character knows died..later either in an instance or after rigorous training, instant power UP... pretty lame IMO

common things, I think among the 4 or 5 main characters in Gundam, only the "main" main character has the nicest mecha of all. Like heero with G.Zero Custom, God Gundam (Shin Gundam), Gundam DX, Eva 1. Others only have about standard or worse looking.
