This whole clone business in China, whatever gets popular they will clone it. But it is testament to the immense production capacity of that country and the very quick retooling that they can perform to punch out the latest clones.

Can bolehland even approach a fraction of that?

yeah! this price gonna killed those xiaomi 2s  and oppo find 5 tongue.gif

reputation wise, i trust international brand than xiaomi, oppo, etc  smile.gif
The Lenovo K900, originally shown at CES at the start of the year, is a Chinese smartphone with more bells and whistles than we would know what to brag about first! It boasts a large 5.5-inch 1080 display, powerful dual-core Intel CPU, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel Sony camera, and we can reveal for the first time uses a 2500mAh battery (which we hope is big enough!).

The K900 will only be officially be available on sale in China and from launch day to only place to buy one is thought the popular E-commerce portal 360buy.com, with a new rumoured price to be just 2599 Yuan ($420)!

Lenovo paid IBM to become an international brand. Before that they were mainly a China player, but probably the largest.
Xiami and etc need to pay the price of admission to international fame, but they have to start somewhere.

guys, need your help here
i just bought a fake china Galaxy S3 with a price of RM1050.
damn that guy cheat on me and switch off his phone.

inside it is running on JB 4.1.1 with playstore installed.
looks like original S3, the only difference is the welcoming screen when it boot up. the rest is almost 99& same as original. even the smoothness is also same.

now i am thinking is there any good thing i can do with this phone?
*
Errrr how did you end up buying a fake S3 anyway? Those are at most RM 700 nowadays. You can use it, just that it will probably choke on graphic intensive games due to the less powerful CPU.

Love the pure android and 2gb ram.

Given that pricing, the S3 LTE with 2Gb RAM was reported at RM1268 from one of the AP sellers. THAT is a good deal.

It depends on WHICH part of China. When I was in Shanghai, some brands were not even known there. Shenzhen should have everything but Shenzhen is also the counterfeit device capital tongue.gif

QUOTE(JJKTP @ Jun 11 2013, 05:17 PM)
Based on what you said and assuming the performance scales linearly. The CPU performance for 1.2GHz = 70% (as given by you), so 1.5GHz = 87.5% of the S3 performance. Bear in mind this is just a simple calculation (by no means accurate) for the performance of the CPU part in order to get a general idea. I am sure you guys can calculate for the GPU part yourself.

P/S: Not bad for a cheap SoC.
*
Definitely not bad, but only how the heck do we get our hands on one easily...... and without delays. I've been waiting since March, and now it's mid June....getting something else already.

Guys,

Both the Umi X2 Turbo (RM988) & the iOcean X7 Elite (RM777) are now available in Malaysia

http://www.lelong.com.my/latest-umi-x2-fhd...3-08-Sale-P.htm

http://www.lelong.com.my/iocean-x7-1920-10...7-01-Sale-I.htm

Both specs are similar, 32GB rom, 2GB ram, 13MP camera, MTK6589T 1.5Ghz, 5" screen, etc.

Which is the better choice? In terms of manufacturer quality, housing finishes, etc.

Expert opinions welcome smile.gif
*
Final-effingly here...... price seems reasonable for the specs. Personally I prefer the x7's design.

I don't recall if there are rooting methods readily available though.

QUOTE(biatche @ Jul 11 2013, 10:53 AM)
Comparatively, dell laptops come with a lot of junk that isn't needed. Much too bloated.

In linux terms, if you know Ubuntu/Fedora, that's bloated too. I use gentoo/archlinux which is very bare and minimal. From here, I'd install that applications I desire.

As bare and minimal as possible is what I want if there's such a thing. Also, it's nice to be on the latest android version...

Possible?
*
In general, *devices* do not work like a general purpose computer of an x86 PC, although there is NO technical limitation why they can't. It's the artificial restrictions of locked bootloaders, proprietary binaries etc that make you dependent on the manufacturer to supply updates and prebuilt binary packages.

So you can only load up an AOSP/CM10.x based ROM to do this mix and match, or becoming a dev yourself and precompile your own ROM. That is IF you can get the kernel sources at least, for your desired device.

If you're referring to compiling similar to that in intel/amd based arch, that is to say, ./configure, make, etc.. and compiling kernels, that im able to do..

If it's too much a waste of time, are there any chinastock phones that are very bare and minimal and the software is frequently updated so that the user can enjoy the latest features?

Just like how some linux distributions use the 3.3 kernel branch, some will already provide the latest 3.10 kernel branch.

thanks for your detailed reply.. hope to achieve a technical understanding of these smart phone devices smile.gif (still using a dumb phone right now)

Are there any upcoming chinastock soc's worth waiting? So I've read that mediatek is bringing in an octo proc.. Not too sureĀ  what all the power is for, but I'd like a phone that can last as long as possible without charging. my dumb phone can last a week without charging.

Read the rooting link in my sig hope it helps u with an overview.

Update: some links there to the cyanogenmod wiki will probably help you.

Does anybody know if there are any highly anticipated soc's (cheap ones.. not tegra4/sd800) coming soon? Or is there something in the market that's already really good?
*
Well, considering the current MT6589T has scores about equivalent with the Exynos 4412 in the S3, you can still target that.

joytest: thanks for your quality replies..

ok, mind suggesting a chinastock phone that has these attributes/possible attributes (with hacking)

"customizable, bare, minimal, software updated regularly (newer/testing branch), better than usual battery life, english"

at the moment im still clueless with smartphones but im sure by picking one up for  the first time and toying around with it ill wont ask too many silly questions by then tongue.gif

Decide for me biggrin.gif
*
You're welcome but phones don't work with "let's fork this and add on to my own github".

This is all due to the proprietary binaries especially with the radio and GPU.

I don't think ANY phone lets you do this, except for the dev kit SoC BOARDS that are not phones. tongue.gif

So I don't have a recommendation for you except to trawl around abit, and this guy here:

http://www.cnx-software.com/

can help you choose. He's an embedded linux engineer whose blog I've been following for a while.

Any chinastock phones to recommend that use this soc?
*
Quite a few, since a lot of the earlier versions were using the non-T version. The refreshes should be using the T.

You could read the gizchina.com blog which tracks this stuff. You come across as a capable power user, so I trust you can also check it out yourself.
