What kinda problem you facing in the notification area? So far didn't encounter any problem with the notification on the older revision of 4.1.2.

I think yours is safe.  Check by pressing this at the dialpad:  *#12580*369# at the last line, HW Rev.: MP 1.100 is the one with bad board.  MP 1.400 or MP 1.500 are safe.

Or, you can download eMMC app from Play Store to check.  Just get the first app match when you search for 'emmc'.
*
Ok, thank you very much. Will gonna check with the dialpad tonight, as for eMMC result which I have downloaded earlier, I got a "sane chip". Some forumers in here claims that I am safe from the defective chip problem but now I heard that this is about the motherboard defects thingy.

I see, I thought it suppose to be like that.

QUOTE(Dannyl @ Apr 16 2013, 02:54 PM)
Oh, then yours is safe.  Motherboard thingy is the same as this defective chip issue.  It's the flash memory card built into the motherboard.  If the issue cannot be solved with software, they have to change hardware, which means changing the whole motherboard since the card is built-in.
*
Pheww...all this chip defective, motherboard defective and sudden death really sounds so scary. I did heard one of my friend who is a early adopter of S3 having motherboard problem last time and I thought he was just an unlucky person who owns a defective unit. Anyway, thanks for clarifying.

Hi, I'm very new to the Android scene, and I want to get my first Android phone.
Earlier on I considered the Galaxy Grand but only because I thought the S3 was over my budget, turns out they sell at around RM1.2k.

So I'd like to ask some questions here, what model can I get for RM1.2k? I have no idea what are the differences between I9300 and etc.

What other models are there and what are the differences?
And someone give me a price base for the specific phone please
I do not need more than 16GB so ignore the 32GB model. If I'm not mistaken, I think the differences are only LTE or not right? If so I do not need LTE so can someone give me the price for a 16GB model without LTE?
Also I'd like the prices for SME and AP.
Thanks in advance.
*
I have made some survey last week in this forum, an AP S3 16GB will cost you about RM1199 while the cheapest SME S3 you can find is RM1380. You can try search in this lowyat forum for the latest price.

Have update to JZ054K.I9300XXEMC2 through Kies, didn't notice any visible or performance changes at all, guess it just resolve some minor bug issues.
Contact launching still the same, which is around 1 sec.

Bear in mind that only a small amount of sets with bad board will have problems... otherwise Samsung's image will have already gone down the drain and will be almost bankrupt from all the suing it gets from users.

Ok, mine are with:

RF cal: 2012.12.12
HW Rev.: MP 1.500

I assumed its a latest batch then. smile.gif

hi there. i'm sorry if i ask the same question as other users. but i just want to know, how to reduce my ram. now its like 700++ mb out of 832 mb. original SME s3. what can i do to reduce the ram usage. thanks smile.gif
*
There's a couple of Task Killing Apps you can download from the Play Store to perform the task or you can press and hold the Home Button and swipe to left or right to kill any running task. Certain apps can be set to kill the running apps automatically as well.

Exiting apps the right way. To fully exit an app, press the BACK button until you fully exit the app. Home button does not exit the app. and it is not suggested to use any task killer app or to constantly clear your ram. It does more harm than good. Just let Android manage the ram by itself, if it needs more ram, it will auto kill off the app that is least used.. If your phone is lagging it's better to restart it..

and one question, why are you concerned anyways? 600~700+ mb is around the normal ram usage. You dont expect it to go to 500 do you? o.O
*
Thanks for clarifying the Task Killer Apps, anyway I thought press and hold the home button till the running task pops up the screen and swipe left or right is to kill the task, silly me...lol

Put Application Monitor widget at your homescreen so you can know if you have any enclosed app with one glance. Download the widget from Samsung App or from my Box link below

GO Launcher is from Froyo/Gingerbread days.  ICS onwards should try Nova, Apex, etc.

Thanks, will it decrease the speed performance on those you recommended?

Does the S3 SME set support LTE for Maxis?
*
You can only find the LTE edition of S3 in an AP unit since SME(Samsung Malaysia) didn't bring that model in our Malaysia Market.

I prefer SME sets and S4 is too expensive :/ I think the S3 specs is good enough for normal usage but sadly doesn't support LTE  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif
*
Whether AP or SME, it is still an original Samsung device. Just that AP will normally warranty their AP unit by the seller own or assigned service centre. If you insist a SME set, then just get the non-LTE version 1st since you have stated S4 is out of your budget.
