What I saw , only Galaxy s3 and HTC having zero shutter lag.
Does Camera have it ?
Anyone can list out camera which having zero shutter lag ? compact and dslr ?

I guess it means there is no lag between the time when you press the shutter release and the time the photo is saved

I may be wrong, but higher end PnS and DSLR shouldn't have that problem at all, provided appropriate accessories e.g. Flash cards are used

But why no compact or high end camera advertise at zero shutter lag ? but Phone camera having that powerful zero shutter lag camera ?

from what i know, smart phone is using camera "app" and running the app using its processor, so the processor has to run the app and save let say 8MP picture from your smart phone to your memory card and this take a lot of processing power
so when the smart phone can achieve zero shutter lag, it mean it has fast processor and good amount of ram, and good writing speed...another strategy to promote sales
but in the case of digital camera, it majorly depends on the memory card speed and the faster the card the lesser you fell the shutter lag, try a Class 4 card and a UHS Class 10 card, you know the kick, btw who want to use a camera with shutter lag?

So , dslr and compact camera doesn't have those processor to perform zero shutter lag ?
Some told having a class 10 memory card doesn't help to speed up shutter speed . Is it true ?

Maybe it's not really zero shutter lag.

Or they are using some continuous picture picture taking and when you press the shutter, the image say 0.05s before you pressed the shutter will be saved. Some digital cameras have this feature.

Higher end DSLRs use mechanical shutters, Shutter lag is inevitable and will never math electronic cut off shutter.

But the continuous picture to picture taking is taken with full 8mp HD resolution. How do they achieve this kind of speed taking picture ?

i would say that zero shutter lag is just a term used for smart phone, as they only achieve the speed,
while for dslr/or any current (maybe just maybe not all) camera has it. means its not a "thing" to be proud of. its something thats already been there since..

So does any compact digital camera able to perform the same speed as smart phone speed ?
Mostly , if there's a need to snap fast speed picture like a birds , which compact camera list ? hopefully below 1k ?

I have a feeling that you are confused between the terms "shutter speed", "shutter lag" and "burst shot" whereby each of them mean very different things....

I think when u hold a dslr on ur hand and click the shutter button u will feel the differences. As for burst speed.... it is there since the 70s so no big deal to advertise it any more.

shutter speed in digital camera like dslr is fixed, they work by capturing the image > store to onboard buffer > store to memory card

but higher speed memory card allow to you to be ready for the next round of shooing in shorter time


dslr got a mirror which reflect the light to viewfinder, and a shutter curtain which open up to let the light hit the sensor for certain amount of time, all of this is electronic controlled mechanical that's why you will hear the "click" sound from the mirror when the button is pressed

and the dslr sensor is not on all the time unlike what you see in most compact pns and handphone camera
shutter lag - the difference between the time when you pressed the shutter button and the time where the camera is actually taking image

shutter speed - the interval of the shutter curtain remain open to allow light hitting the sensor

shutter burst/burst shot - mirror and shutter continuously open at a fixed interval to allow multiple pictures to be taken

shutter lag can be caused by the AF system in the camera, which is why camera has two stage shutter button, half-pressed shutter will auto focus and full-pressed from half-pressed will capture the image to reduce the shutter lag, manual focus also can reduce shutter lag since the camera no need to focus before user pressed the shutter button

not just that, digital camera is so far behind the camphone in so many features and when being introduced to dc become like so big deal like:-

and many more

Technically there is still shutter lag event in the most powerful DSLRs in the market... shutter lag is measured in milliseconds and no matter how fast the shutter is there is always a 'lag' time regardless or mechanical or electronic shutter used..

Zero shutter lag is just a marketing gimmick .
