QUOTE(Erictdl @ Jul 23 2013, 05:35 PM) To me its actually consider cheap, its around 800 for 4d3n full board with 5 dive (but have to work as cleaner a bit), nice hotel and food which normally cost you ard 800 for 3d2n without diving. No offense or anything but we go Laguna 3d2n only round 500 add 1 night maybe additional 150?<- not sure their rate. 5 dives is 200 for them. I dun mind working 100% of the time cos its for the sake of charity and clean up.i didn't attend other project aware before apart from this organizer, last time i only work 20% of the time, the rest is leisure time or maybe need to attend the boring class session about conservation at night. if i calculate normal price 5 dive x RM100 + RM900 4d3n hotel= RM1400 but in this case i only need to pay RM800 which its almost 50 % discount, to me totally worth it. Kalong 3d2n + 5 dives only 600+. although their room not so nice due to the thin walls. What I mean to say is they should not treat it as a normal diving trip for people as people come to help the environment so that they can have a better place to go to in the future to dive. People are willing to work hard and have fun at the same time on these trips. It would in directly bring reputation and income for the places who does these events also. Just saying, DC should stop thinking about profit if they truly care and want to make a difference. |

QUOTE(BroJason @ Jul 26 2013, 06:06 PM) well said! i totally agree with that! Ya I agree, mat salleh they have the passion for diving that's y they do it even though they r far away from their country. Locals are too money oriented. It's true they need to earn a living but still try to be responsible.to be honest (and for the record, not looking down on our own local dive instructors), I have had a great experience going for my course with mat-salleh dive instructors - they are more strict in certifying OWD candidates, so they usually go the full mile in ensuring that the certified divers can really take care of themselves. Some local dive instructors, had to mention this, is more money-oriented and thus slack on what they should actually do and teach during the actual OWD courses - hence might have a high chance of possibility that the certified OWD is not well-prepared for the 'real-world' diving experience and situations... if I were you, my first priority is to ensure that the dive centre that handles the certification for such a big group will be able to accommodate for those numbers, and at the same time be able to maintain a certain certification standards (not slacking due to the sheer big group of students) all for the reason of safety. once you have scoped down the probable dive centre that could handle the numbers and with professional standards in mind, then only you start negotiating on a large group discount with them. my recommendations would be to go with any 5 star PADI dive centres. my personal choice would be scuba-junkie in sabah or tioman B&J dive center. regardless, all the best with your search! I think there r quite a few good places but to have 30 students would be hell. And the dive site would be hell too. |

QUOTE(kingdomdemon @ Jul 28 2013, 01:14 PM) Depending if you are willing to go to an island to try it out before the monsoon hits.Maybe try out Tillman since its the nearest to you guys. It depends on you. If u r really interested u could go get the license directly. But if u don't dive after that then u wasted 1k++ for it. |

QUOTE(demetrius @ Jul 28 2013, 04:12 PM) hi guys, new diver here, inexperienced but very enthusiastic. Well you could go get the license yourself maybe? Or just go for leisure dives first to get better buoyancy.i'm thinking of getting my AOW license soon, but the gang that got the OW with me are in really inconvenient schedules due to their jobs, and, well lets just say they're less motivated than i am. anyone here getting their AOW license as well? i'm interested in tagging along.. thx There is no point chasing certification but not learning much from it. In the end it's really up to u. |

QUOTE(demetrius @ Jul 29 2013, 08:18 AM) The reason for the rush in certification is to effectively unbar the depth restriction. i firmly believe that skills and experience, all through hunger for improvement, are more important than the title itself. the AOW license is more of an obstacle than an achievement to me. Nah, u don't need a group to do aow. U can do it alone too but living might be more expensive with places charging surcharges. But inferring from your reply, its possible to get the license myself? i mean,i figured i would need a group or at least more than myself to proceed with the course, as it was for the OW licensing. Thx for the reply btw.. In AOW, there is a few questions like "why do you want to go deeper?" And "what is your purpose?" I am not judging and putting you down but just hope it is the correct reason for your safety. If you think it is your reasons are correct than I would say go do it. There r cheap dorms in perhentian so u could do it there if u r worried of accomodation. |
