Lahad Datu: Malaysians in Philippines advised to be careful[SIZE=14]
KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry has advised Malaysian citizens in the Philippines to pay utmost attention to their safety and security, in light of developments in Lahad Datu, Sabah where an operation is underway to weed out Sulu invaders. They were also advised to exercise additional precaution in their daily activities. In a statement here Tuesday, the ministry said the Malaysian Embassy in Makati City, Manila and the consulate-general in Davao City had been liaising and cooperating closely with the relevant Philippine authorities in monitoring and assessing the security situation to ensure the safety and well-being of Malaysians and interests in the Philippines. It alluded to a demonstration mounted by a group of 40 people outside the embassy which began at 10am, which ended without any untoward incident at 11.30am. The demonstrators, said the ministry, were believed to represent a small number of local interest groups wishing to voice their views about the situation in Lahad Datu. "The Malaysian Foreign Ministry expresses its utmost appreciation to the Government of the Philippines, in particular the Philippine National Police, for providing the necessary security protection to the Malaysian Embassy in Manila and the consulate-general in Davao City," said the statement. - Bernama |
