The ArmA III BETA has been released on Steam!

ARMA 3 is set in the near-future, during the mid-2030s, where NATO forces deployed in the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea are trying to hold off a massive Iranian military offensive from the east. During the singleplayer campaign, the player will take the role of a British Special Forces soldier, Captain Scott Miller. Initially, the player must survive on their own after friendly forces are defeated in a failed NATO operation. During the campaign, the player will face everything from lone wolf infiltration missions to the commanding of large scale armored operations. The player will be able to choose different objectives and weaponry (such as UAVs, artillery, and air support) according to their play style.

ARMA 3 takes place on the Aegean islands of Lemnos (renamed as Altis) and Stratis of Greece, in the Mediterranean Sea. They will feature photo-realistic terrain and water environments. Altis will be the largest official terrain in the Arma series with ground area covering approximately 270 km². The smaller island, Stratis, will expand over an area of 19 km². The islands will feature over 50 villages with buildings that are both enterable and destroyable.

ARMA 3 will be using the newest version of Bohemia Interactive's own Real Virtuality game engine. New features compared to previous ARMA games include:

-Enhanced mission editor
-Support for DirectX 10 and DirectX 11
-20 km view distance
-Ragdoll physics
-Physics enabled vehicle handling and environmental objects (PhysX 3)
-Underwater environments, vehicles and diving
-Weapon and uniform customization
-Volumetric clouds
-Render to Texture
-Improved lighting engine
-Support for Java
-Improved flight model from Take On Helicopters
-Support for six degrees of freedom
-The Ragdoll Effect

nice price for a vast game.
already can play in alpha if pre-purchase? drool.gif

Juz check the arma site. its ALPHA now wub.gif  gonna get it 2nite.

how big is the file and how's the server and graphic?? ur gameplay look smooths and the graphic is nice wub.gif

Had to download about 9 gigs. Graphics is a major improvement from A2/OA with DX11 in play. What I like the most are the UI changes and the infantry movement. As for servers there is no dedicated server executable yet so everyone is running off listen server.

Bought the game just for the SP. For me it's the series main selling point.

Getting the hang of MP. those radio chats and all lolz.. Bug a bit buggy, sometimes FPS drops.. using GTX680 already.. i think its either CPU intensive or still very much unoptimize

Try lowering your draw distance to a comfortable setting.

Look for your Arma 3 Alpha folder in My Documents. Inside you will see a file called <yourplayername>.Arma3AlphaProfile

Go all the way down and find these two settings:
viewDistance=1600; //represented in meters - distance at which the world is drawn.
preferredObjectViewDistance=1600; //represented in meters - distance at which world objects are drawn

Remember to save your settings once modified.

Oh and to read the file properly you'll need to use notepad++ / wordpad.

For me it's a resounding yes. Always like the single player campaign since Operation Flashpoint. Although the AI always been the achilles' heel, but the story kinda interesting if not cliche' (it's understandable), and the mission design is brilliant. Unlike many other popular shooter, you can tell they spent lot of effort into the SP, kinda wasted to just ignore it. To each his own, it's their money at the end of the day.

Beside i'm not really into MP. Arma is one of those game that is suitable for both SP and MP player, both component are quality as far as i can tell.
*
"Engine Versatility"

The main selling points of the Arma series are the mission editor, mod tools and PC platform exclusivity. Without them the series simply would not survive till today. Everyone who plays arma is capable of giving back to the community be it modding or mission making. They are given the tools to do so. It's a little more complicated than SP over MP vice-versa but I hoped that widened your scope.

Bit of formality see. But from a pure fan perspective, the SP is always the main reason why i bought the game. I'm not talking about anybody else, just stated my reason. Simple as that, no double entendre.
*
So this means you won't even try a co-op mission with anyone here? I'm looking for veterans of the series.

Before this I ran a dedicated server for DayZ then MSO (both requiring MySQL). It's basically a second machine. Nothing but a box/server. I turn it on/leave it on like forever.
