Does OCBC give anything for PB if we ask? hmm.gif

Usually OCBC will have a gift for new premier customer.

What kind of gift will OCBC offer is depending on their marketing campaign.
They used to offer free RM 100 Parkson voucher and gold art.

I suggest you to call OCBC hotlines first to confirm if they have any special
gift offer for new premier customer:
http://www.ocbc.com.my/group/group-home.html

Then you call RM to discuss about new premier sign-up, then before you hang-up,
you ask nicely in a soft tone: do you have any gift for me? Hopefully the RM will
give you extra gifts. biggrin.gif

Remember one of the Musical Chair's Golden Rules created by Captain:
Always negotiate for better FD rate and gift on the phone first before you go to bank to open new FD account. biggrin.gif

Your Relationship Manager is similar to your business partner.

Although all RM receive same training from the same bank, but each RM has different
personality and mentality. You gain if you can get a professional and responsible RM.

You can check around who is the best RM in your closer OCBC branch.

Alternatively, if you wish, you can call OCBC branch and ask the Head of Premier Account
(Branch Manager of Premier Account) to recommend a professional RM for you.

Good Luck

Yes, better than nothing.

Last time when I tried to ask for gift after signed-up a new regular FD account in UOB, UOB gave me one umbrella,
and they said this to me: you are the only customer can get this umbrella, nobody else can get it.

How stingy they were.. sad.gif

QUOTE(Azrage @ Jun 11 2013, 04:29 PM)
I have a question, hope someone can help me.

I have 15k to buy FD

1. OCBC promo FD 4.5% for 3 month
- 10k in FD, i need to have minimum 5k in saving.

2. Bank Rakyat Makeen FD 3.65% for 3 month
- I can put 14k in FD, deposit 500+/-

With the same amount of money, i earn more from Bank Rakyat FD.

Correct me if im wrong. TQ.
*
1. OCBC 3 Months FD at 4.5%

(A) Place RM 10K in 3 Months FD at 4.5% = RM 112.20 (assume 91 days' interest)

(B) 3 Months FD bundled with OCBC Smart Savers or 3 months
(I) RM 5K in FD at 2.9% = RM 36.15 (assume 91 days' interest) + RM 112.20 = RM 148.35
Need to deposit additional at least RM 1K during any day in 2nd and 3rd month into Smart Savers.

(II) RM 5K in FD at 2.75% = RM 34.30 (assume 91 days' interest) + RM 112.20 = RM 146.50
Need to deposit additional at least RM 50 and up to RM 999.99 during any day in 2nd and 3rd month
into Smart Savers.

(III) RM 5K in FD at 2.4% = RM 29.90 (assume 91 days' interest) + RM 112.20 = RM 142.10
Deposit nothing or deposit up to RM 49.99 during any day in 2nd and 3rd month into Smart Savers.

You will get OCBC FD cert at the same time when you place your FD.

Reminder:
Once if you withdraw any Ringgit amount in your Smart Saver, you will get 0.5% interest in Smart Savers of
the particular month.

For example, if your 3 months FD and Smart Savers mature in 12 September, you will receive full 4.5% interest
on your 3 months FD; but once if you withdraw any Ringgit amount from Smart Savers in 12 September (or make
withdrawal during any day in the month), you will get 0.5% interest for 12 days calculates from September 1 to 12
September in your Smart Savers. This is the tricky part of Smart Savers... doh.gif

2. Bank Rakyat 3 Months FD at 3.65%
Place RM 14K x 3.65% p.a. = RM 127.40 (assume 91 days' interest)
If RM 15K x 3.65% p.a. = RM 136.50 (assume 91 days' interest)

You will get Bank Rakyat FD cert in 2 or 3 days later after you place your FD.

Really..? hmm.gif

Last year I only used banker's checks to place FDs in Bank Rakyat for few times ,
but all the times I had to collect the FD certs from Bank Rakyat in few days later.

Maybe they changed the policy lately? Or maybe they did not trust me..?

I never knew placing FDs can entitle us to ask for free gifts...really wasted those other times I place FDs and didn't try to ask for anything, lol
*
Sorry Sis, I am afraid I mislead you.

All banks do not have obligations to give us free gift when placing a FD; unless they have a promotion stated free gift will
give away when placing FD, and most of the time they will put down on condition provided the stock (gift) is still available.

What I tried to say was:
Just try to ask for free gift when placing FD (especially when signing up new premier accounts, new FD accounts, or place big sum of FD)
even there is no promotion. Sometime bank may have some extra gifts left over from their previous promotion, or they may have
some gifts ready for customers who ask for them.

But most of the gifts from banks are not valuable, like umbrella, coffee mug, diary, back bag, travel bag, towel, shoes bag, and etc..

The gift from bank is just an extra bonus to us, if we can get it, that is great; if not, it is fine for us too. The most important
things for us is the FD rate.

I heard 2 stories from 2 RMs, they used their own money to buy gifts for their new sign-up FD customers:
(1) OCBC - RM 100 Parkson voucher (I think this was for premier customer)
(2) HSBC - A normal diary book (This was for new regular FD customer in a new branch opening last year)

Yes, I was surprised the last time I used banker's cheque. The counter lady pointed to me that I used banker's cheque for the FD. Not sure if they changed their policy as I started with them last year Sept/Oct. Only in Feb that I used banker's cheque and was happy that I don't have to go back again to collect the cert.

I started my first FD in Bank Rakyat last year May.

Thanks for the info..

Dont feel bad, very likely that you didnt loose anything because very seldom bank  give free gift unless they advertised it which you dont need to ask for it. free gifts are automatically given to premier customer.

*
No No no no no... One exception case did happen, OCBC RM tried to cheat my gold art. mad.gif
I mentioned this con case last time, I believe you knew about it.

Better to check around and make sure what gift promotion does the bank have before we go. Trust no RM..bruce.gif

And wow, those 2 RMs...dedicated or desperate, I wonder. The return on their 'investment' must be quite decent.
I am pretty sure, OCBC RMs make good money (incentive/commission) on signing-up new premier account.
And I can almost confirm how much money they can make is also based on the FD deposit amount.

But I do not know much about HSBC since I do not have account there.

What a terrible RM! Hope you've filed a complaint and action was taken against him/her bruce.gif

RM if not ethical, they can be the worst people out there. Hard to find one that cares genuinely for their customers.
*
Yes, I did. I sent a complaint letter to her superior..

I had a very bad luck to have an unprofessional RM like this.

ai... a long sad story lah.... sad.gif

That's why I said RM selection is important. Especially OCBC only assign one RM to one premier customer, no matter
how many FD accounts (includes premier & regular account) we have in different OCBC branches, the RM is still the
same one.

Normally free gifts from OCBC, you will be required to sign a receiving letter. The same applies to previous Secret Recipe vouchers that i had received.

Yes, I signed on a receiving letter, that was about 2 weeks after I finally received the gold art.

Oh.. the Parkson RM 100 voucher that I mentioned previous was supposed to be Secret Recipe?

Gold Art with 24K gold plated with a small certificate. For decoration on the desk.

OCBC said the market price was RM 250 (at that time).

One of the OCBC RM said one premier customer sold this Gold Art for RM 1,200.

But I do not know whether is this RM telling the truth or not...? hmm.gif

Teacher Lost RM 19 Million FD to A Foreign Commercial Bank Officer

MALACCA:
A 47-year old teacher who trusted her best friend to deposit RM19 million into a fixed deposit bank account over the past three
years, was shocked to discover the money was missing.

The woman had been depending on her 28-year old friend who is also the bank officer, to handle the transactions since 2010.

She only made the discovery when she came to the bank on June 3 to update her account and immediately lodged a police
report.

It is understood that the bank officer had transferred the money to the accounts of his three accomplices via online banking.

State Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Superintendent Soh Hock Sing said the bank officer went missing after
his cheating scam was uncovered.

“We have formed a special team to look into this case and we have arrested two men in their 20's in connection with this scam in
Bukit Beruang on Monday.

"We have also recovered RM11 million of the RM19 million."

“The two men arrested are believed to be the accomplices of the bank officer and they allowed their bank accounts to be used to
siphone money from the victim's fixed deposit account,” he said.

Soh said that the bank officer has since gone into hiding with another accomplice.

“Initial investigations revealed that the victim had passed the cash money over to the man instead of depositing it over the counter
as usually practised."

“There were 81 transactions of money being handed over by the victim to the bank officer since 2010.

“Each time the money was handed over by the victim, the bank officer issued a receipt to the victim as evidence that he had received
the money from her.

“However, on June 3, when the victim came to check on her account, she found out that the receipts issued were fakes,” he said.

Soh said police were now looking for Chua Ken Juan, 28, and Low Kim Hsen, 25, to assist in the investigation.
