I see alot of new stock has arrived. As much as I want to buy some of the Spidey or Batman sets from Aeon due to the 15% discount and some spare vouchers which I have, had to resist because of this huge haul I made at Amcorp last week..

It is the 1990 M-tron Mega Core Magnetizer, the flagship vehicle of the M-tron line. It cost me RM 450, but to me it is worth every sen! thumbup.gif

biggrin.gif Its one big vehicle. I haven't come accross this before, maybe because i only started this hobby recently.  tongue.gif
*
It is a very old set as it came out in 1990, hence it is 23 years old now! But the pieces still look like it is from a few years back. I know about this set because I used to have some of the smaller M-tron sets and always look into the catalogs in the early 90s. When you start looking up the old sets on brickset you will see that TLG made ALOT of space sub-themes last time.

The previous space theme was Space Police III. It is 3 because there were 2 other space police themes before that. Now it is the Galaxy Squad theme.

QUOTE(alanyuppie @ Mar 1 2013, 10:38 PM)
Well for new LEGO fans like u.. if u compared past sets and now ... U will notice how simple things were back then. there weren't many customized parts. The lack of sleekness is obvious.

WHat I REALLY, REALLY miss bout old lego sets are their alternate designs at the back of the box. I always would try to reproduce them although there's no instructions nor internet to download them.  They're not doing it anymore. Creators with 3-in-1 models are better than nothing though .
*
I agree, the old sets have more common parts compared to now. The Mega core magnetizer is all big and bulky but in a good way. That HUGE windscreen is from the base sets from previous themes but in different color.

One thing I like about old sets is the fact that the pieces are PRINTED. See the M-tron logo & design on the container? All those are printed! You simply cannot find that type of parts anymore from TLG! Even the Shell sets have printed Shell logo and wording. I got a HUGE classic town set coming with so many printed shell pieces it makes me wonder why the heck TLG never do such a thing anymore. Whatever happen to TLG's motto "only the best is best"?... rolleyes.gif

As for alternate designs on the box, I find it shameful that even a knock off brand like ENLIGHTEN can do alternate designs.

I took some better photos of my Mega Core Magnetizer last night. The playability of this set is amazing; crates and small vehicles with magnets to allow you to load and unload them from the deck of the Mega Core Magnetizer. Oh, the seat is large enough for the space marine from series 7 thumbup.gif

nice one... hmm i never saw in my entire Lego life that cockpit windscreen before... must be a rare brick item. Makes the vehicle looks unique  thumbup.gif

That large window piece is usually used for space bases. So instead of a giving a base for the M-tron theme TLG decided to build a huge vehicle using that piece. Out of the 8 times this piece was used, only once it was used for a vehicle, the rest are all for window for bases.

Care to share what kind of LED you use to light it up? I am thinking of those IKEA type LEDS which you can purchase.

Thread move so fast today... and today is a MONDAY!! shocking.gif

Alot of people was talking about modular buildings, my advice is that if you are not willing to be poisoned and later spend kau kau to build up your "town", then better don't start modular buildings. Building a modular building is very different compared to say a city set or friends set. A city set might have 800 to 900 pieces but a modular can have 2000+ pieces. Then the interior is fully bricked up and each floor is detailed. Once you build something as big as a modular you will never want to buy any of those small sets anymore.

My modular journey started with this 2.
user posted image

Then got the Pet Shop and Fire Brigade
user posted image

Then the Town hall with a little MOC joined the group
user posted image

Till I finally ended up with a corner lot when I decided to MOC my Olivia's house and Heartlake vet with parts I bought from LLM. Yes, I need a bigger table to take all of them again when the palace cinema comes along icon_question.gif
user posted image

I am not planning to buy or bricklink the cafe corner and market street because it is too expensive to do so. Besides there are many more modulars to buy in the future. Not to mentioned haunted house, ackham asylum I have yet to buy.

I was at TRU 1U today to check out the Lego selection there. While there is new stock like Hobbit and Superheroes I have some comments:-
1) TRU cut a hole near the bar code to insert an anti-theft tag
2) Some boxes got no ALJ sticker... I think still from ALJ but since rushing to restock maybe no time to add sticker.
3) TRU's Lego shelf is only 50% occupied. The other side got non-Lego stuff and even the Classic AT-AT from Hasbro doh.gif
4) Got Series 9, but kena picit-picit-picit until no more hot stuff.

There is ackham asylum too? :sweat

This month really durian runtuh for Lego. My 2 large sets are already here. Then got someone offer me haunted house since he is bringing in, but had to decline due to the earlier 2 orders. Now got that batman set, with more sets in tru and aeon which I had to resist again.

So many sets, all come at the same time suddenly.

Here is some of the interior shots of the MOC. It is a MOC of Olivia's house and the Heartlake vet. FYI I build it using extra tiles and bricks I bought from LLM plus extra doors and windows from my stash to complete it.

Will see how it compares if my other modulars when it is done. Looks promising from the box art. thumbup.gif

Finally completed my Palace Cinema early this morning. Then decided to take some photos of it. Highly recommended! I think not many sets have arrived in this part of the world yet. Do not know when it will arrive through the official methods. I remembered it took quite a while for the Town Hall set to arrive here officially. It does not help that sets like the Maersk train and Haunted house is taking forever to arrive here. Last time even under ALJ it was not as bad as this. Dunno WTF has happened to the Lego distribution here. Since one of the sellers here managed to bring a few in I immediately bought one.

Next on my list would be the Arkham Asylum and the Mobile crane Mk2. But I think I would buy those once my Lego budget has stabilized icon_question.gif

Was planning to concentrate on keeping my collection of LEGO real/realistic like Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. Ended up buying the Arctic Batman set  doh.gif

But the completist in me would probably want to get the Funhouse and Arkham sets.
*
Looking at your avatar I doubt you can resist not buying all the other batman Lego sets. A true Batman fan will get all variants and know each by heart. laugh.gif

To me the latest batman sets are all "dumbed-down" compared to the old pre-Dark Knight trilogy sets. If you compare sets like the Batmobile, Batjet and even the Batcave the old sets are larger and more detail. I guess Lego had to balance between having the minifigs easy to get (lots of minifigs in cheap sets = easy to obtain minifigs, low price on BL) versus minifigs in exclusive OMG WTF BBQ so expensive sets like the old Batcave and some Star Wars sets with Boba Fett. The latest Iron Man sets seems to follow the former.

Welcome!

I too am an AFOL but started 3-4 years back. Also had other hobbies like Hot Wheels, TFs, Tomicas but it was Lego that keep me interested. I am also a modular building fan and I recently completed my Palace Cinema. Be warned though as modular buildings are extremely addictive and you might want to get the earlier modulars and later MOC your own modular.

Pretty soon you will end up with a whole lot of buildings with no room to display more. I might need a bigger table to take them all with my Palace Cinema.

Anyone here has the space monorail 6990 / 6991 set on display? wanna ask how you guys display it - on a table? is there such aryclic case that can fix this in?

I just received mine this morning, tonight going to build it !  rclxm9.gif

shocking.gif shocking.gif You bought THAT set??!?@!

Very very hard to get monorail set due to the insane price and rarity. It is also a very large set when fully build, so I think you might need a large table for it. I don't think any case is big enough unless you purpose built one for a table display. And no, I don't own one cry.gif

QUOTE(Caryane @ Mar 15 2013, 12:07 PM)
Hey guys,

I'm really happy that some of you are still asking if i'll bring in some more Palace Cinema after it was sold out.

Unfortunately, the cost and risk is extremely high.

I've started a poll inBricksmore's Facebook page, kindly take a minute of your time to check it out and vote.

If the demand is healthy, we might start another pre-order.

I'm still negotiating with the suppliers to get a better deal biggrin.gif
*
Good to see you have sold them all. Hopefully you can continue bringing bigger sets like the Mobile Crane MK2 and haunted house at a competitive price. Next target would be the mobile crane mk2.

while wife and kids having their naps, I took this golden opportunity to start building my space monorail 6990 set. For today, I finished the monorail track and the space stations. more to come

Nice features of this vintage set:
1. the monorail runs on 9V battery. cool stuff. Long time I never buy 9V boxy battery liao since my last electric toy  biggrin.gif
2. one of the station can actually move its blue canopies and plates to become another shape! this I never realized before
3. two switches that controls the direction of the monorail, whether go clockwise/anti-clockwise/stop completely. (haven't tried myself, just by looking at the instruction manual)
3. comes with 4 minifigs with space utility vehicle

mine is a used set , already 20+ years old but luckily no major dents or missing parts. Just the usual discolor of white bricks. I can see why this commands such high price after so many years even I willing to fork out RM600+ for this. I see some brand new sealed one on ebay is asking for RM2000-RM4000  blink.gif

Maybe alby kor/ ddreaming kor should keep some of their haul to store room and only sell it after 20 years. iron man set for RM2000 maybe? Can recoup all the money in one shot  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
*
It looks great even for a 20+year old set! Wish I had one, maybe if can find one for a reasonable price I may want to buy.

I find it odd that a 20 year old Lego set is so much more advance than the latest Lego sets. The 9V system used by this set to me is better than the power functions since it uses less space and is more compact. This monorail, does it come with a light and sound brick?

An example would be this police van compared to the police unimog. Sure the Unimog dwarfs the police van, but the police van has 9V operated lights (which has 2 modes) and a sound brick (which also has 2 modes, by turning the knob). Also, the light brick and sound bricks is compatible with your monorail!

I decided to take down all my modulars to see how it all looks like together. It was real marathon carrying 8 modulars down the stairs from my room to the large table downstairs and then bringing them up all again. sweat.gif But looking at them all assembled and line up is worth it! thumbup.gif

I think the 6 seater table is not big enough. As you can see it is almost filled to the brim from end to end. I think I can fit another 5 more but have to take more shots from the rear and front. sweat.gif

See the 2 vehicles? I found out that the FB and PC are both 2 stories and both have vehicles!

BB uses City themes. If yours are used, I think that will turn many heads.
*
Very true, BB mostly have the City themes since their goal is to sell the City sets. But to me once you have built something like an entire row of modular buildings the city sets simply look small by comparison. But if BB really want to poison people nothing can poison people like an entire row of modulars. Believe me, it looks MUCH MUCH better in person no matter how I take the photos.

For the premier of the latest movie, the host, Iron Man welcomes the lead actor and actress to the cinema. Can you spot the other movie characters?

I actually got a really good offer from my supplier for Grand Emporium.

But after watching the review from Brickshow, i'm a bit on the fence.

The exterior of the building looks pretty damn awesome but the inside is pretty empty sad.gif

The interior is not that bad actually. It might look bare but actually it is not as bare as the Green Grocer's 1st and 2nd floor interior. Do remember that it has 2 escalators and 1 large chandelier. Also the ground floor has a counter plus a changing room.

Comparing GG's interior to GE's interior. The GE's interior has kitchen stuff on the first floor and toys on the 2nd floor.

If the price is good I suggest go for it!

Besides, it still has some space for more stuff...... and your Lego City population need a place to buy their Lego!
