the recent franco is not that good and it causes lag. adui.

using back CM's stock kernal and tweak the colour using nexus 4 display control, well, it's nice, no lag or whatsoever. batt life seems nice too.
*
What kinda lag you've faced? So far I don't have any lag issues. Need to wait for him to release stable build.

And also, nice profile pic. Rebels

Nexus is different. Nexus update is instant. Although S4 have latest android, but S4 cannot beat Nexus in term of Software Update.
*
Ditto. And also stock goodness. Touchwiz. Gawd too much bloatiness
If Google i/o releases KLP we nexus users will get it first no matter what.

I was using Galaxy Nexus. I thought I can be contented for years. In just few months, I felt like changing phone again. Even Nexus 4 that looks and feels the same can be tempting.
*
but well IMO nexus itself is already not bad. some more got OTG.
i jumped from nexus s so different story

but what triggered your mind to get nexus 4?

What is Busybox used for ?
*
for you to run linux commands via terminal or some other applications that requires busybox
for e.g. Hypershell (from Titanium Backup)

and the command list isn't the complete one as linux/unix/other distro.

yoo...wan to ask..who aledi root their nexus 4? how bout ur power drain..still same or more with non root?
*
The thing is root alone won't do anything. Your privilege is elevated that's all. Unless you flashed custom rom and/or custom kernel then you root and tweak frequency and uv

i think we need to reiterate that the n4 is not for casual scrubs. the fundamental reason for getting this phone is due the huge development support by xda-devs. if you're not going to root/unlock bootloader/install custom kernes or roms, then stick with your bloatware touchwiz/sense.

i've read in the s4 forum about some scrub complaining that the n4 has no innovation and that with the s4 bloatware is superior to the n4. that  is the most dumbest thing i've read from an android user talking about a google phone.
*
they scrub about nexus 4 being innovative eh?

wait till google i/o this year release KLP. we're the first one to upgrade and scrub that 'not-innovative to their face'. right on!

Dirty flash means just flash without reset right?
So it is straight ROM then kernel? Need to boot in between?
*
Dirty flash means flash without reset, correct. But it's recommended to flash gapps. You don't have to boot in between. In recovery, flash rom, flash gapps, flash kernel, wipe dalvik and cache.

is there a need to flash gapps? if i'm not mistaken, i've read somewhere that CM has implemented some sort of blablabla to keep the gapps in system. i'm having no problem at all when i don't flash gapps.

but, when i flash both roms and kernel at the same time, i got bootloop.  doh.gif
*
They must have done something to the scripts I guess.

Yeah you can flash kernel right after you flash rom but you HAVE TO wipe dalvik and cache first.

it's actually a myth that wiping cache/dalvik is needed when changing kernel. it has nothing to do with cache, again, if i'm not mistaken.
*
Thoretically speaking, the kernel is part of something that could controls how the device behaves for e.g. Wifi and audio , and cache is something related to the apps we use and the framework that we're in. If we change from kernel a to kernel b which I'd totally two different things, then I don't see a clear isn't needed. Cause without wiping might lead to instabilities to apps. Maybe kernel a has voodoo sound and kernel b doesn't. If you don't clear cache and dalvik something bad is bound to happen in my opinion.

Just my 2cents
Do correct me if I'm wrong.

I was wonder is there any apps to switch off the another 2 cores so that I can use dual core or one core only. possible?
*
I believe that is a kernel tweak. So far as I know Franco kernel has it. But not in the milestone or new nightlies. Around before r96

QUOTE(teckyang97 @ Mar 20 2013, 12:46 PM)
Xylon can do full screen and pie also?
*
Yes. You can also disable navbar, enable pie but disable chevron. Leaving the status bar intact

so far only franco support 2 cores?
*
franco support hotplug. but not sure what happened as the milestones and the newer nightlies cause
there's no option to tweak hotplug options in fk updater. there's no /sys/modules/auto_hoptplug also

QUOTE(olygopoly @ Mar 21 2013, 12:01 PM)
whats the diff between franco.Kernel-nightly-r110.zip & franco.Kernel-Milestone.1.zip

He didn't post up a changelog for milestone 1, but 110 has latest patches from codeaurora. yet to read git or anything yet. git commits Y U NO SIMPLER ENGRISH

matrix got hotplug..but how to set the min_online_cpus?i see default is 1
*
the least you can set for min_online_cpus is 0
you can set it via editing as a text file
or
via terminal

Download ES file explorer from play store, set appropriate settings for you
to be able to edit system files
menu>settings>root settings>tick root explorer, up to root, mount file system

then click on min_online_cpus and open as text file. then edit, save, exit

terminal method: you need to be busybox-ed for this
go to terminal,
su
(get root permissions)
echo 2 < /sys/module/auto_hotplug/parameters/min_online_cpus

I am noob too. Very noob...

This is what I do:

1. backup everything and anything
2. Unlock boot loader and root
3. Flash ROM & gapps
4. Flash kernel as and when I am free...
*
to be exact, you need to unlock bootloader and flash custom recovery.
with custom recovery you can install zip files and all.

when you install custom rom they're normally rooted and you don't need to root anymore.

and yes, flash gapps cause normally custom roms don't come with gapps.

kernel flashing is optional unless you want to use other kernel like franco, motley, faux123
