The phone
Thanks mostly to its metal edges, the phone piece looks and feels not too dissimilar from an iPhone 5, but wider and a bit longer. It has a durable metal texture and felt light in my hands. The buttons were raised just enough to deliver a satisfying click when pushed.
If you're at all familiar with with Asus' Transformer line, then you won't be surprised by the tablet piece's form factor. It's about the same size as the Transformer Infinity and feels about as light; however, its body is of plastic as opposed to the cold, smooth metal of the phone. The phone slides smoothly into the back of the tablet and delivers a satisfying "shunk" when connected.

Once past the lock screen, the tablet handled incredibly fast. I was able to smoothly and effortlessly zip through apps screens, widgets, and menus at a breakneck pace. Asus tablets usually deliver particularly responsive screens, but this one seemed to respond to my finger swipes quicker than any Android tablet in recent memory. With the phone separated from its host body, the navigation was just as fast.

The PadFone ships with Android 4.2 and a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor with an Adreno 320 GPU. The phone features an aluminium-based unibody design and the Super IPS 5-inch screen packs in 1,920x1,080 worth of pixels, delivering a 441 ppi.

On the back sits a LED flash-supported 13-megapixel camera featuring an f/2.0 aperture and according to Asus delivers lagless shutter speeds. There's also a dedicated image sensor that enhances photos captured in low light.

Asus also claims the camera can capture up to 100 sequential photos at 8 frames per second, while simultaneously recording 1080p HD video. A feature that could possibly eliminate the video or photo dilemma at crucial moments; however, this is currently problematic as the video recorded while taking still shots is noticeably choppy. There's also a front-facing 2-megapixel camera.

The Pad
The PadFone Station houses a 10.1-inch screen with 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution. Other features include a 1-megapixel front-facing camera, Micro-USB 2.0 port, an ambient light sensor, and an e-compass.

GSM, WCDMA, and 100Mbps-capable LTE antennas are also included along with a non-removable 5,000mAh lithium polymer battery, which, according to Asus, fuels up to 40 hours of 3G talk time when the PadFone is docked.

My only concern is weather the internal parts will create problem like the transformers prime where it can't lock to bluetooth and gps due to the metal casing..but overall the specs look good and i'm still searching if there is any sample pic taken by the device

The phone really make the choice between HTC One and this difficult and the price is really killing

but, the purpose of padfone is the ultimate-one-device-rules-all. we do not need to have different devices which data is different too per device.

btw, the logo "padfone" is actually the antenna part, patented. laugh.gif perhaps, the antenna issue in prime infinity will not be appearing again. laugh.gif

Walao Asus make user to invest in their mighty product again. Asus non stop creating new product but never keep them for long. sad.gif

Overall Spec is very good and the only thing is the price if it is around 600 to 650 euros then many people will buy. But this is 999 Euros (@(TT)@)

€999/$1325 is freakin overprice, and I totally agree with Megat, dock they should make it optional accessories instead, pretty useless (at least for me).

phone specs looks good eh. but Rm4k is too ex, plus I do not see anybody needing a 5" phone PLUS another tablet. If i did I rather get a smallish phone say 4" plus a tablet. personally i just settle with a 5" phone.

I actually find the S3 too big (for the screen size) haha. I never quite liked the phone design.

I dont think 5" is too big either. What I meant was having both a 5" phone and a tablet at the same time; which I find pointless.

when i first heard of padphone (the first gen), i fell in loved with it, i love the idea and concept of having only 1 data plan 1 phone, them can dock into the pad station n become the tablet. it was so cool. till when they announced the price, i was like sweat.gif shocking.gif doh.gif shakehead.gif . i believe if Asus able to sell both phone and the station at RM2800, it will sell better. but it is impossible, the cost to make the station of padphone 3 is high. 1920x1200 resolution display is not cheap. if we take the price for the phone only say RM2299(similar pricing of other flagship), the cost of the station alone is bout RM1700.00. that is about the same price of asus transformer pad, and it was a standalone tablet.

so i conclude that, padphone concept is a genius invention however it was too costly. notworthy.gif

Totally overpriced, just like Padfone 2, tooooo expensive!. And i always feel that Padfone(s) are always scratch prone . :/

Slight tweak of Overclocked Snapdragon, full HD screen, meh and the price sad.gif

Its a very cool concept, Asus is the only one as far as i know, produces such concept of Phone+Tablet in 1 , so they should price it right, and im quite sure that it would be a success story smile.gif

The ASUS Padfone Infinity is priced at TWD 20,990 ($702; €547) for a device with 32GB of built-in memory, and TWS 22,990 ($769; €599) for a 64GB version. The tablet dock adds TWD 5,000 ($167; €130) to the bottom line.

Phone only, same price as Xperia Z and Butterfly?

smokey78, have you tried HDMI output? mine when connected picture movie ok, but the sound has no bass at all, donno why. Using olicinal Asus HDMI adapter (for Infinity).

Padfone2 has bass (Samsung MHL adapter), but the adapter is not compatible with Infinity. The Asus Adapter for Infinity won't work with Padfone2 also.

If compare the phone speaker, Padfone2 is far far better than Infinity, really pathetic speaker.
station speaker both about the same, but padfone1 station beat them all.

****UPDATE****
Updated to latest firmware TW 10.6.9.31 two days ago and that fixed the bass issue.

Even if they are serious, I don't think it'd be that cheap. Let's say the 2nd Gen is ranked a bit lower than Note 3, then I'd say, 2299 for it? Plus the pad, add another 599 for it? Then, total would be min for me is 2899

Hi,

Been a proud owner of PFI for a week. So far so good except for a few issues I that I can still live with it.

Does anyone here know how to move an app to the "Pad Only" tab? I read from some posts that you just drag the icon to the tab but when I hold onto an app it just went back to the home screen for me to place and don't have an area on the top for me to place on the "Pad only".

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I bought from Directd, located at Subang. They should have all the stock you want.

They setup a lot of garage sales section such as Directd's Asus Store. Their phone and address is also there should you wish to contact or visit them. Please search for "directd" in the garage sales section.

They also have the PFI listed at lelong.com.my.

Best of luck.

After some more random attempt, it seems like PFI only allow certain apps to be marked as "Pad Only" hence I could not find the "Pad Only" section on the top right corner to drag the app icon to. Will contact Asus support when I got the time to see what they have to explain.

After 2 weeks of casual use, I would like to share my personal thoughts on PFI.

Build quality
The build quality is good, I like the aluminium build on the phone. No complain on the station too, but it could be better for the price I paid. The aluminium joints does not fit as perfectly as my bro's iPhone 4/4S. You can see more apparent gap and you can feel the joint with your finger.

When you press firmly on the top right corner, you can hear and feel creaking. This both "reduce" the premium feel I have when I compare to my bro's dated iPhone 4/4S.

Display
I only have my Samsung Galaxy Note 1 and HTC One X that I previously owned to compare with. Probably it's due to the 1080p display, I feel that the display is way better that HOX. Don't get me wrong, I also like the HOX's display. The brightness is also ways higher HOX. I don't like very bright screens, while I have my HOX brightness in between 20% - 30% in most indoor situations, I have my PFI in between 0% - 20%.

I used to use my SGN1 most of the time because of the larger screen and much much better battery life compared to HOX. Now I think PFI blows these 2 away.

Battery life
I'd say I'm between casual and power user (e.g. web browsing, Flipboard, YouTube, rarely on games). I'd say 2,400mAh is still good. With SGN1 I usually had around 50% juice at around 10:00 p.m. With HOX 15% at 10:00 p.m. (Only pick up a less than 5 phone calls and nothing else) to the need to charge as early as 5:00 p.m. (with casual use).

With PFI I still have around 40% at 10:00 p.m. with casual use, possible to get 60% balance.

-----

I have 2 main issues with PFI.

1st is YouTube. When you have it in landscape view, you will get the bottom 1/4 of the screen black whenever you return back to the video listing. The contents are still there, just that it's been censored by a black strip. This affects my viewing experience and forces me to use YouTube in portrait view. I've seen this case reported in Google YouTube forum from a PadFone 1 user with no solution or fix posted.

2nd is the WiFi receive signal when PFI phone is docked to the station. With the station not docked I can still somewhat open web pages in my room or behind the house in the kitchen. Once you dock it, you are forced to H/H+ signal. This is also a issue commonly reported by other users. Even with the station docked, the reception is not stable. I can even stream YouTube from my SGN1 and HOX is these locations. Will contact Asus when I got the time to ask for explanation.

Update 2013/10/14 : PFI Station WiFi Fix
After a few days of testing, I can confirm that PFI station WiFi issue has been fixed.

Solution : I've noticed that the pin on one of the two connector rods beside the mini USB on the PFI station is bent after my purchase but did not bothered with it since I can dock the phone fine. Later on I recalled that someone mentioned somewhere that the station has its own antenna so I used a needle to align the middle pin back to the middle of the rode. And the conclusion... Now the WiFi reception is pretty good, no different than when the phone is not docked.

-----

Overall I'm still satisfied with my purchase. Hope this will help those who are considering to purchase PFI.

Restart the phone and see how everytime the reception is wierd. I set to auto, and sometimes when move from 1 place to another, the signal sometimes is either no data or show signal but noone can call me. Restart the phone seems to solve it (for every incident).
On/Off flight mode will not solve this.

4.4.2 firmware installed fine, but found the below troublesome/problems:-

1) Default launcher cannot be set to others, ZEN UI only. That means cannot use other UI
2) Swap from top screen to bottom sometimes bring out the Quick setting screen rather than notification screen. really annoying. Correct way to swap out notification screen is press on the notification bar and swap down. so troublesome.
3) Long press home screen no longer bring out the so-useful-to-me programs shortcuts.
4) Some programs works in earlier firmware no longer work in 4.4.2
5) Developer option is by default disable. There are many guidelines on how to enable it.
6) yet to find out.

Bought the Asus Padfone Infinity A86 at Cheras for RM 659.00. So far so good, but the CPU tends to get hot sometimes. Does anyone know where I can get a casing for this phone?

Thank you.

Yes that cheap! I thought it was a typo in Mudah.my.

Even Directd is selling the phone for RM699. I went to Satu Gadget shop at Menara PGRM.

Just phone only. Not interested to the docking pad.

Anyone knows how to update their Asus Padfone Infinity to Kit Kat Zen UI? I have downloaded the firmware update from Asus Website. I have transferred the file into the phone but still it does not update automatically.

Thank you.
