okay, got my 902T for about 2 days now.

here some photos captured with 902T... (very respectable macro mode).. with 1.92megapixels. I think it outperforms K750i anytime...

all photos taken inside room's fluorescent light environment and photos resized to 800x640. quality untouched.

first photo:
object: canon camera body
with: camera LED on, Auto-Focus mode.
Attached Image

second photo:
object: 6230 keypad
with: camera LED on, AF mode. (doesn't seems to focus well with AF.. hmm...)
Attached Image

third photo:
object: nc4200 laptop keyboard
with: camera LED off, AF mode.
Attached Image

forth photo:
object: RM5 note
with: camera LED on, macro mode.
Attached Image

i guess.. the macro mode work pretty outstanding here.... a picture tells a thousand words. what do you guys think??

Eh StratOS, tried using the My Mobile application included in the Utility Software? It could let you transfer out your data from phone memory to PC.

Just open Data Transfer on your phone then connect it to your computer. So far tested with USB cable and it works.

Hi Raymond,

For your information, if you want to transfer data with the My Mobile program, then you need to open Data Transfer. This mode is only for the use with the My Mobile program included in the utility disc.

If you want your phone act as card reader for memory card, you can just activate music transfer. A mass storage device should be detected by your computer and you can just start to transfer any files from or to memory card.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I've tried Data Transfer but the problem is it never seem to get connected. I've waited for like 5 minutes and yet the phone still shows "Waiting". I do not think it will be that long rite?

Anyway has anyone tried 904t with 2G mini sd? I read one forum in Singapore and one user tried with 2G mini sd without any problems. If so, I think i rather use 2G then.

For the Data Transfer mode, you need to open up your "My Mobile Phones" section, then you should see Toshiba 904T in the list. Then click on it and your phone will be then connected with the phone. A file explorer window will be opened for you to exchange data.

Hope that helps.

Hmm the secret mode do available in 903SH also. For 903SH, other than the Japanese fw, you can hide the contacts that marked secret under secret mode is on. By the way, the Japanese FW of 903SH could protect your SMS folder also.

You got 803T already?

hmm... yeah.. very nice feature for those who want to hv mistress outside hahaha... japanese really creative to enforce security on devices.

eh.. 803t? nope... missed it when i want to reply to ati... it was sold. smile.gif why? u got SPECIAL price for me ar? he he...

StratOS,
i think 1GB should be more than enuff for your usage... audio/video files converted to suit for ur phone are much smaller than those u play on PC.. summore read your manual.. i think it recommended max. card size is 1GB (correct me if i'm wrong). and 1GB is cheap now... just my 2cents.

Hmm, unless you're in Japan and has Vodafone SIM card, if not why not try to find 3D Java games that available in the market and in general, it might suitable for your 902T.

Nope. Same as 902T couldn't play any MP3 or set MP3 as ringtone. 803T and 904T support it with require to convert MP3 to Toshiba proprietary format that Beat Engine Box could recognize.

Vodafone Tailor and StratOS Tailor and other Tailor who can answer me: -

I juz got myself Toshiba 903T and I love the phone very much. However, I have some question: -

1) I read all the messages posted and found that 903T cannot play MP3 or set MP3 as ringing tone. But why inside the phone have this media player software?

2) I bought this as second hand set and the previous owner did installed some songs n i saw the format is .mmf, what does it means? If 903T cannot play MP3 song then if I converted those mp3 format to .mmf can play?

3) should I buy SD card or mini SD card for this phone?

4) Can the picture set as photo caller?

So far this my few questions, still explore the phone....

Thanks very much...

Here is the answer for your doubts:

1) The Media Player is not the same as Beat Engine Box available in 803T and 904T. Main purpose for Media Player will be playing video and listening to protected music files (Chaku-uta) which I guess would be in .DCF file format (DRM Content File which could encrypt data, signing with Digital Certificate and requires an authentication server to acknowldge the file.)

2) Yes the phone can play MMF files as well as set it as ringtone. Well you could convert your MP3 to MMF but there is a file size limitation for MMF ringtone which is 300Kb.

3) You should go for miniSD as if any of your owned device requires SD, then just insert your miniSD to SD Adapter and you could use it as a SD card also.

4) Yes no problem but there is a picture size limitation.

Enjoy playing around with the phone.

No problem. Well did him/her state how he/she did it? As I know if you're in Japan, yes you can listen to MP3 with the Chaku-Uta which songs could be bought from vending machine.

I open the battery and insert a new sim card (digi) into the phone and when i restart and press the menu key (central button), I got this message: -

Retrieve NW Info
Setting information downloaded from Network. Start retrieval NW information?

I choose Yes, but failed to download anything. I choose No it back to the Menu grid.

I had tried many time and keep repeat the same messages everytime I go to the menu. Why? Anyway to make it disappear?

Only hv the problem after i reopen the battery...

Just wanna to make a comparison. BTW i m in HK now. The used 904T here is damn cheap.

904SH, 705SH and 905SH available here as well, price range from RM1300 - RM1500. Unfortunately they are not able to unlock at the moment. Else I will consider to buy.

hey guys, i've got a question to ask you all, is the cover (or monitor flip) of 903T "loosy" like that? got what i mean?

erm.. for example, you all have exprience with new flip phone, right? when you flip/open the open, you shake it, the body and screen won't feel "loosy", right? is 903T will?

803t cannot set mp3 as ringtone.. but a TX-60 can set mp3 as ringtone.. TX-60 and 803t same phone design only different fw.. 803t got 2.omp CCD sensors camera(very clear and clean pictures taken), very easy to use, wont lag, supports 1gb 80x speed mini sd, can view certain chinese words.. supports 3g(can get ur setup for MMS, GPRS on Digi website if ur using Digi), can use maxis 3g.. very very nice mp3 sound quality.

Cons:
smsing using t9 got some words type will jam... not sure wut word but some only.. like 3-4 words add 1 extra step la).. and i dun think theres anymore cons bout it..

any other question pls ask freely.. tongue.gif

803T in Hong Kong selling HKD1500 (with unlock), the lock set is abt HKD 1300.

If TX60 is abt HKD 2000 plus (with chinese software, MP3 play etc) .

There is another new model TX62 in Hong Kong now which selling only HKD1680. Similar to TX60 but cheaper.

I still prefer 705SH after seeing so many phone here.

And I wonder, why the phone here so cheap????? 903SH (833) full set sellng (new) selling only HKD2800 (the cheapest i asked).

Thanks. smile.gif

At MongKok Xin Da Plaza. U have to try one by one to ask those shop selling Japanese Series Phone. I almost everyday went there to do the survey but end up did not buy.(PK liao sad.gif ).

The 705SH cannot be unlocked at the moment. But I really like the design. Is stylish. And the shop I asked also selling the Japan U Sim Card so still can play around but cannot be use.

However, I hv back to Malaysia. Only next year will go again and hopefully by then 705SH has the unlocked version.

mp3 in 3gp format for this hp?ook...ill be thinkin bout it these next few weeks...thx 4 all da info stratos, its a big help

It will not work whenever your 3GP file Sound is AAC. The 803T and 904T firmware doesn't support MP3 and AAC files playback directly unless converted with Beat Engine (which basically adding a wrapper onto the existing MP3 and AAC file so that the firmware will recognize it and play the file with MP3 and MP4 codec).

*
Well bear in mind that in Hong Kong, there is no import tax for eletrical products. Unlike Malaysia in legal way, you need to have approve permit (AP) for importing communication devices such as handphones and need to have SIRIM.

Sin Tat is another local Sungei Wang like plaza. The business strategy is identical also. tongue.gif

You mean for your 904T? The video's sound encoding only supports AMR in playback.

For song playback only need to convert from Beat Engine software and play with Beat Engine Box in the phone. This only applies to 803T and 904T. 902T and 903T doesn't have Beat Engine Box and also cannot play MP3 or MP4 directly.

QUOTE(uchan @ Aug 6 2006, 10:18 PM)

*
TX60 installed with HK firmware which is without the MP3 and MP4 playback and ringtone limitation.

New Toshiba batch phones can't be unlock including 705T. HK version of 705T is TX62 which already released. A lower end phone than 803T/TX60

Beat Engine is only for playback purpose and converted songs will only appear in Beat Engine Box. Can't use for ringtone.

Btw, the sms texting, how com cannot press space? Which button is the space? I press # the enter icon came out. Any idea?

Haha, not on my 903T. # comes out a enter or arrow icon. "0" comes out ~. while * cycles through mode, like japanese, icons emoticons and symbols. The only way i can space is right directional pad. Haiyo so troublesome to sms. sweat.gif

All HK firmware Toshiba TX series phones. In Japan, most of their phone requires DRM MP3 or at least a higher protection and control DRM format: DCF

If you compare to sharp 903SH. There is only slight difference as most of the function both also have and some don't have. It's give and take you see. So it's pretty hard to say if there is any good or not. It all depends on your own preferences.

As for the barcode thing sharp 903 also has that. smile.gif Well, good thing is 903T or 904T got external screen but not 903SH. biggrin.gif

Anyone using 903T? Why is it that when I press the camera side key it will launch video recorder instead of still camera. And in cam mode (where the screen is turn over like digicam), is there a way to switch between video and still cam? I can't seem to find that function. unsure.gif

vodafone is a telco.. like digi and maxis.. but they are big company who can engrave their own brand on the phones..

@ilikehandphones.. most japanese high end handphones are flip models.. only some are candybar..

@SimonsayZ when u press the camera button 1 time.. it will launch the camera.. if u press longer like hold it there.. it will launch the video cam.. during the camera mode, u can find ur menu by pressing the top left button.. top left beside ur d-pad, this may let u do ur settings..

Yeah currently phone could assign ringtone and ringvideo (.3GP)

Reprovisioning is an update function for the phone. Well you might heard of Over-the-Air (OTA) reprovisioning. It could update firmware, push wap/mms settings into phone and a lot more.

Well basically the format they used in the firmware is not ITU-T specified standard format. There are some proprietry format added for the underlying reprovisioning function.

Well, most of the time the trick will remove the repro. In worst case, if the trick doesn't help, need to master reset phone.

SMSing on a JP firmware for my 903T is troublesome and not user friendly as it is meant more for Japanese words. T9 does not work for English so don't expect that T9 will work. For jp firmware pressing "0" does not space have to press directional button left or right or press # to bring out the sub menu to enter space. SO it's kinda un-user friendly.

But for 803T Im not so sure.

Well for T9 English input, the following [models] [firmware] have it:

[902T] [Japanese]
[TS921] [UK]
[904T] [Japanese]
[TX60] [HK]

Below models and firmware doesn't have T9 English input:

[803T] [Japanese]
[903T] [Japanese]

Once you are in the J phone category, other brands will not interest you. Btw StratOS, maybe you should consider K800i, coz the cam/functions are pretty good overall and price is ok too. Or just wait for another few months for the next cybershot phone. biggrin.gif

Hmm what you did before the repro popup? Most of the time I experience that if you download invalid Java apps or trying to save into memory card, the repro will then show up. Besides, trying to assign illegal file as ringtone will also leads to repro.

That is what I experience so far.

No wonder lah...I d/l java games into my memory card. which it says invalid also. So this is what cause the reprovisioning. Then d/l and save into phone memory will the reprovision appear?

When you say illegal files to ringtones, you mean assign mp3 files or incompatible files?

Well can scan normal product bar code also....not sure which type but you can scan any QR code as long as you see it anywhere. Just that QR code is not widely use other than in Japan itself.

Wah, that time was sharp polo T, now Toshiba T-shirt? Seems like a good idea, I support this totally. maybe you can post this in sharp thread also so that you can get more buyers, cause Im sure they will support this too. thumbup.gif

Btw, the T-shirt design is very very nice. I love it. biggrin.gif

Maybe, at the rear, you can use a vodafone logo beside the "ToshibaUseClub"?

Honestly, you should look at your toshiba 904T for reference. As you can see, the logo is at the top and "vodafone" wording just below the logo. I think that is the best way.

I suggest putting this at the rear with the logo at the top then vodafone wording. Below the vodafone wording is the toshiba user club. smile.gif

Just my 2 cents ya. biggrin.gif

Yeap, full refund of the insured amount as you will need to pay the amount of insured. In this case insured amount of RM1,400 cost RM36 which is additional to the actual shipping fee.

waaaaaa toshiba also got shirt jo
keng keng !

anyway, just to give u an idea,
the bigger printing space + printing location(front and back) cost will be increased
then the number of colours will also increase the price
last but not least, the quality of the shirt + quality of printing will affect it too

but it does look good, but still wondering, what does the dog means ah? cute wong choi tongue.gif

i dont mind doing it but i kind of tired lately
due to work and stress
was craving for a break

i can do the printing along with the shirt
but i need someone to do posting and cod with user, cause the last job create alot of problems and inconvience for me

as for the design is good, but need some adjustment to minimise cost and effectiveness

1)like the vodafone logo on the back, u oni do the red dot, the surrounding grey tone cant do because of cost and troublesome

2) the barking of the dog "!!!" sign and the back X logo is another colour by itself, it will adds more to costing since just 2 small portion it appear on the shirt, i suggest change colour to red/black

3) if "Toshiba User Club" change to yellow/red colour then the entire shirt will be only red + yellow colour involved. Costing will be reduced and more will get to enjoy

this is my opinion, u can still continue the design/colour which you done but the costing can be doubled.

cheers

last but not least
u need at least 50 pcs to be successful
but i dont think its a problem if price is cheap
many pm me for the previous bulk for next bulk
cheers

Just like what spoonkin mentioned. Use 2 colors or no shades or colors in between. Try design one and see lor. Maybe after that can double check again for the design. biggrin.gif

Am enjoying every moment of the phone! icon_rolleyes.gif

The size is just right for me, although some may say it's a lil' bulky. It feels solid in my hands too. The external LCD is a boon for me, as I've sorely missed this feature while using the 903SH. Luckily both my Z610i and 803T now has external LCD, at least to notify me of incoming caller's ID, and also messages if any.

The 803T gives an extra edge by having external audio controls, meaning I can scroll through my song list, and play directly from it via speakerphone, or the supplied earphones without having to open the clam. smile.gif The screen is crisp clear, almost on par if not better than the 903SH. And having themes to toy around with (although it only comes with 4 pre-defined themes, and you can't add any extras) really adds some pleasure of owning the phone! biggrin.gif

Transferring of MP3s to the phone must be done via BeatEngine, an application which is supplied together with the set. So for those buying used sets, make sure the seller provides the BeatEngine installation CD. If not you'll not be able to transfer songs to your phone to listen to.

OK now some cons of the phone. First of all, the phone I'm using is a 803T, meaning it runs on Japanese firmware. No English T9 and I find that a problem when typing SMSs as I'm very used to T9. The TX-60 (HK equivalent of the 803T) though I heard has T9.

Battery life is so-so. My phone can last me around 1 day only with 10 odd messages, listening to some songs, and making a few calls lasting 1 hour plus in total. I wished it is longer. wink.gif

The 803T is a 3G phone, but is somewhat crippled with the absence of an internal camera for video call purposes. So you can only view your friend while he/she cannot see you. That totally defeats the purpose of making a video call IMO. It's better if you have 2 cameras (or a rotating one), or you don't have any at all (like the Sony Ericsson M600i/W950i).

Other than that, I would like to say that it's a very good phone to use, provided you can overcome the shortcomings I mentioned above. smile.gif

Hope the above helps potential 803T users in making up their mind. smile.gif

Cheers! icon_idea.gif

i think u can only get 2nd hand set for now.. its kinda hard to find it now too..

@sonyclie77.. very detailed review made.. the only difference between a 803t and A TX-60 is:-

-803T have no mp3 ringtone support.
-803T does not have T9 during SMS-ing.

but theres also a bug in TX-60 T9 support.. i can't type a few words using T9 like 'beautiful' and some other words i forgot, when sumtimes i type it the phones hangs.. laugh.gif

It's also true tat every toshiba user must have the BeatEngine program to send songs from your PC to Phone and make sure u set u phone number correctly during the setup of the beat engine if not the song wont work in your phone..

I too think the same, the Click sound is nice to hear, like a reassuring sound! biggrin.gif

BeatEngine although is one extra step, is OK by me. Just make sure that it does not get lost! (the installation CD)

What if we change SIM cards? Does BeatEngine still recognize our phone since the phone number is difference from the one previously registered?

A normal person most probably wouldn't use as much as me. smile.gif

I'm just a student. So I probably won't use it as heavily as you do.

I once compared the screen of both the 904T and 903SH. I find that the 903SH's is much nicer in terms of clarity and also sharpness of it.

The condition of the phone is very good.

So tempted to buy it.

But I'm not sure if I can get used without using T9 to type.

Hmm... that you'll have to see for yourself. I still can type without T9, but typing speed is definitely slower.

Does anyone here provide flashing service for 803T to TX60?

No T9 is definitely a con. 1 more thing to add: TX60 can set MP3 as ringtone while 803T must convert to MMF. 1 more thing: Contact sorting. TX60 got better search function for Contacts?

If can flash to TX60 then quite good. But you lost the Answerphone function.

I think the battery life is quite good already. Can last at least 2 days for normal usage. I do mean 'At least'.

Pic quality quite OK. Nothing to shout about.

Yes can use mmf as ringtones.

Stereo speakers are decent.

TX-60 is even more rare than the 803T in Malaysia.

Try places like lelong.com.my

Yeap, can fit. The port is the same. For charging, it should be no problem also as I used 803T charger to charge my 903SH before few times.

.3gp, wav, amr all those as ringtones only..

Beat engine only allows u to send songs into ur phones music player and not to set it as ringtones.

TX-60 is totally same as 803t.. juz that TX-60 supports mp3 playback and ringtones and 803t cant coz 803t is using JP firmware and TX-60 usig HK firmware.

it depends if u wanna try a new phone or not lor..

I guess going to a 904t is a downgrade from a 902t camera wise? No af. But I cant get by the looks of the 904t, I really like it more than 902t that I have. And more music functions. Though I really like the macro on the 902t using regular af, it gets close than 903sh

yea.. have to agree.. laugh.gif from the phone u see its nice due to the advance LCD technology.. but when u send it out of the phone into ur comp u will vomit.. laugh.gif

Side by side yes.. last time go to KL met them and compare the pics.. i was like OMG when it was viewed in the phone.. but when go back post it up i was like.. OMG.. mine is like crap compared to 903SH.. laugh.gif

theres a few reason for this.

1. 904t has no AF like 903sh
2. 904t using CMOS sensors while 903sh using CCD sensors
3. 904t camera is juz somehow very sinsitive to hand shakes.. laugh.gif

the good thing that 904t wins 903sh is that it has external screen, so u can view whos calling and got any messages or not.

thats what I noticed with a few pictures taken by the 904t, was the shake, I guess the lack of af hurts it with hand shake. Something that isnt that bad on the 902t/903t. The thing with 902t camera is color is good, but image is somewhat dark so noise appears in darker colors

last image turned out really nice at full resolution though, 902t pictures. I guess when I get 904t I can compare. If i have both at the same time. But indoors 902t is really bad especially with low light

I wish toshiba kept af on 904t, like the 902t...

Although 904T is a 3.2MP but it lacks of AF, so 902T 1.92MP with AF will win in terms of picture clarity and a lot more easier to take good picture.

Camera quality wise (from good to bad in the list):

903SH > 902T > 904T

903SH > 902T > 904T
